The
weather forecast for today looks
to be very similar to that for
yesterday, and which didn't
match reality. I must admit that
looking at the sky does rather
suggest that it is going to be a
grey morning, but like yesterday
there still might be a chance
that the clouds could break up
to give a nicer day. The
forecast does say sunny spells
from 4pm onwards, and maybe it
will happen sooner. This morning
felt chilly enough to make me
close my bedroom window, even if
it was 18° C according to my
thermometers. It is expected to
rise to 23° C this afternoon.
Tomorrow could start a degree
cooler than today, and there
might be some light rain at
10am, but otherwise tomorrow
could be the same as today,
which might, or might not, be
the same as the day before
yesterday.
Yesterday was a mostly
quiet, mostly lazy sort of day.
I ended up doing very little,
and I was even still sober after
a Sunday afternoon beer tasting
session. One good thing I did do
was to mostly be careful about
what I ate - but I did take a
chance on one thing.
I think that after I
finished writing I laid on my
bed to read, stare at the
ceiling, and contemplate a
snooze. I am fairly sure that I
didn't have a snooze, but I
guess it is possible I faded
into and out of sleep for a
short while without noticing it
- particularly during the
staring at the ceiling period.
As midday approached I decided
that I ought to have a shower
because I was expecting to see
at least Jodie, and maybe Alan
later in the afternoon.
After my shower I thought
I could detect the first hints
of my bath towel going stale. I
left it soaking in detergent,
and planned to finish washing it
later, and getting it hung up to
dry so it would be bone dry this
morning, and I could use it when
I shower today. I have several
other towels I can use, but that
one is my favourite because it
is just big enough, but still
small enough to make washing it
fairly easy. Tomorrow I will
have to use another towel
because after 5 or 6 rinses I
got bored, and the towel is
still in it's last bucket of
rinse water, and I'll have to do
the final 3 or 4 (hopefully)
rinses today before I can have a
shower.
With the probability of
drinking many beers later in the
afternoon, it seemed prudent to
make sure my stomach was line
with a nice lunch. It was to be
my first spare chicken shish
kebab, part of my takeaway order
from the previous night. I
didn't attempt to warm it up,
and so make the salad very
wilted, but ate it cold. It was
still very nice.
It was sometime between 1
and 2pm that I got a message
from Alan - Jodie's partner. He
said that Jodie had had another
episode of phone madness, and he
was taking her into Croydon
where she hoped to buy a new
mobile phone. She made the
stupid mistake of going to the
EE shop (her service provider).
Like most service provider
mobile phone shops they tend to
sell the lowest spec versions of
phone at the same, or higher
prices, than the higher spec
versions of the same phone.
Also, as Jodie found out, they
were trying to con her by saying
she would have to get a new
contract instead of just selling
her a phone (which may well have
been locked to EE for 6 months).
I was sure that if Jodie
even turned up here it would be
quite late. In fact it was very
late - 5pm ! The good news is
that Jodie didn't buy a phone
from EE, and is now considering
everybody's advice, and
buying it from Amazon - and
saving over £100 for a better
specced version of the phone she
nearly bought from the EE shop.
In fact she may not even need a
new phone. From the way she
describes it, it is possible she
caught her phone in the middle
of an update, and only appeared
to be dead. The next morning it
was working perfectly normally,
but she says she does not trust
it. With luck the phone will
continue to work normally, and
every day will make the desire
to replace it smaller and
smaller.
One usual problem is that
every time Jodie comes here for
a beer tasting session she
wastes a lot of time preparing
her lunch/dinner. Extra time was
spent washing a load of
blackberries she had picked on
her way here, and more time
wasted when a small punnet of
edible flowers she had bought
said to wash before use, and she
had already added them to a
pasta salad before she realised
it. More time was wasted picking
all those flowers out, washing
them, and then adding them back
to the salad.
All this wasted time
meant she only had time to open
two beers before she had to
leave to get the train after the
one (30 minutes later) she
should have got to meet Alan at
Clockhouse. The two beers we did
manage to drink were the two she
was most excited about, and was
the reason for the beers we
ordered on Thursday, Both were
from the Omnipollo brewery, and
oddly enough, both were fairly
pleasant.
At 7pm, the time she
should have already met up with
Alan, Jodie left here to catch
the 7:12pm train. I immeadiately
got my dinner out of the fridge.
It was the third and final part
of the takeaway order from the
previous night - a lamb shish
kebab with salad. I have to
admit that the cold lamb was nit
as tasty as the cold chicken I
had eaten at lunchtime. One sort
of interesting thing was that in
the past I have eaten both a
lamb and a chicken shish for
dinner, and it has almost had a
positive effect on my blood
glucose the next morning, i.e. I
got lower blood glucose
readings.
After eating almost
nothing but the two shish kebabs
(and throwing away the pitta
bread they came with) I hoped I
would be safe eating some ice
cream. It was not only that I
fancied that ice cream because
it would be a delicious dessert,
but because I was eating quite
late at night I hoped the ice
cream might be some sort of
barrier to any heartburn when I
turned over to go to sleep. It
possibly worked.
I had about an hour to
kill before heading for bed last
night, and I suddenly remembered
I had intended to show three
pictures I had taken in portrait
orientation (although no really
portraits). The easiest option
was to make one composite
picture of all three. The result
is above. On the left is a
picture of Jo that I think I
took using just ambient light
(no flash). It was almost bright
enough, but horribly grainy. I
did some serious noise
reduction, plus a lot of
sharpening, and I thought the
end result was rather good. All
the smoothing makes Jo's skin
look a lot younger, and yet
there is loads of detail in he
hair. The other two pictures are
of Greg, the new guitarist.
I think I was on my bed
reading a little before 9pm, and
I read until maybe 9.20pm. I
seemed to feel OK until I turned
out the light, and turned over
to try for sleep. There were two
problems. One was that I felt
very hot, and the other was that
I could feel heartburn starting.
Before it got too uncomfortable
I took a couple of antacid
tablets, and this time they
seemed to work very well. The
pain very soon faded to a very
low level. Putting the fan on
low helped cool me off.
Unfortunately, a few
hours later, when I needed a
fairly large pee, I found the
fan to be a bit too cool. it was
tricky because it still felt a
little too sticky without it,
but I just had to endure that. I
woke several more times in the
night, and each time I had to go
for quite a volume of pee in the
toilet. In theory this suggested
that my blood glucose readings
would be high, and once again
this theory would turn out to be
wrong.
I can only remember 5
seconds of a single dream last
night. Now that is a big shame
because what I remember was
undoing the first buttons on a
long frock worn by a young lady
was was laying down - possibly
on my own bed. I was just about
to get a glimpse of parts
normally hidden when I woke up.
Damn !!! I am unsure when that
was, but it could have been when
I needed to go to my last pee of
the night just before 5am.
By then it was light
outside (although not exactly
bright light), and I didn't
think I was going to be able to
get back to sleep......Suddenly
it was about 6.30am, and I
thought it time to get up. It is
also worth noting that I did
that 80 to 90 minutes sleep
under the duvet because it did
seem very chilly this morning
even if less than a couple of
months ago I would have been
very happy to have seen 18° C as
an afternoon temperature.
I didn't pee much after
getting up, and I didn't seem to
need to go for a poo (and as I
write this, still nothing has
happened). I weighed myself, and
even without a poo, I seemed to
weight exactly the same as
yesterday - which was modestly
good/satisfactory. I am unsure
if I am going to do anything
today that might add to any
weight loss, but I suppose it
might be possible.
I am happy to say my main
two health measurements were
good this morning. After very
high blood glucose readings
yesterday morning, I am happy to
say that this morning my blood
glucose is back down to a good
area. The Contour meter read
7.9mmol/l, although that was a
second reading after the other
two meters gave much lower
readings, The forst reading was
actually 8.4mmol/l - which is
still good, but not as good...
The GlucoRX meter read a better
7.8mmol/l, and the Sinocare
meter read an almost ideal
7.6mmol/l. It was getting all
three readings in the light
green zone. My blood pressure
reading continues to be nice and
low. This morning it was 107/49.
Last night I was having
fantasies about going out to
take some photographs of
stations and train today. It is
not impossible that could still
happen today, but I don't think
it is very likely. It is
currently not that dull outside
- probably good enough for some
flat looking photography - but
it still doesn't give me any
great feelings about going out.
I really don't know what I am
going to do today - apart from
finishing rinsing the bath
towel, and hanging it up to dry.
I probably should have a shower
today, although if I am not
going out anywhere, and it is
unlikely anyone will be visiting
me, it isn't strictly needed.
Today is just going to be
another day when I make it up as
I go along.
