There
seemed to be a fair amount of
light rain in the small hours of
this morning, but it is
currently dry. However it is
quite cloudy, and the idea of
drizzle or light rain during the
day seems quite likely. The
temperature should rise to 20° C
for three hours according to the
latest revision. Tomorrow may be
a pleasant day with loads of
sunny spells/periods, and the
temperature should rise to 22°
C.
It was a shame to miss my
Wednesday lunchtime drink in the
Jolly Farmers. As I expected,
fresh air did help to reduce my
coughing, although the chances
were that it would have started
up again while sitting in the
pub. Fortunately it as not a
spoiled day.
It was almost after
midday when I had the full
shave, shampoo, and shower that
I always have on a Wednesday
morning. It was not a steaming
hot shower, but even a lukewarm
shower was enough to make me
feel better, but then again, any
wash would have been good after
not bothering to wash the day
before - and the day before
ended up as quite a warm and
sticky time.
I felt good enough that I
went out shopping. I had a
simple plan, and I think I
mostly described it when writing
yesterday morning. It was to
head to Savers, and see how I
got on from there. There was one
particular thing I wanted from
Savers. It was a pack of
Esomeprazole
tablets. They reduce stomach
acid, and hopefully may put a
stop to, or at worst reduce the
heartburn I seem to suffer from
many evenings.
Of course I didn't stop
at just one box of pills. I
bought other stuff including a
couple of shower gels, two
scented candles, and a spare box
of soluble aspirin. After Savers
I went across the way into
Poundstretcher where I mostly
bought food, but also some
plaster strips that were on sale
for about half price. They are
good for protecting my feet when
walking in shoes that have not
been worn in, or for any shoes
if I ever manage to go on 4+
miles walks again. It is
possible that some of my angina
when walking is actually wholly
or partly heartburn. My MRI scan
proved that there was reasons
for angina, but at times I have
had hints that some heartburn is
taking place. Time will tell.
My next stop before I
headed home, was to get some
stuff from Iceland. Shopping in
three shops, one after another,
is a rarity for me, and I am
unsure if I have even done it
before. I was after several
things in Iceland. maybe top of
the list was a couple of their
"My Protein" ready meals. I am
guessing that they are a
replacement for their "Slimmers"
range which were not all that
nice, seemed quite small, and
saved only a small amount of
calories, and possibly even less
sugar. I need to scan the small
print again to be sure, but the
"My Protein" range seems to be
quite low sugar as well as
low(ish) calories. The last one
I tried seemed nice enough.
I also bought a small tub
of "My Protein" ice cream, and
that indeed did seem to have
quite a low sugar and calorie
content. I also bought some
stuff for snacks - stuff like
coleslaw, and their twin packs
of small cheese and bacon
quiches that seem to be far more
tasty than even Tesco's, twice
as expensive, "Finest" range.
The one thing I didn't get, and
mostly because my rucksack and
shopping bag were full, was
anything to drink.
Despite carrying a fair
load of stuff, I can't recall
having any difficulties walking
home again. It was an almost
pleasant experience. Once I got
home, and put most of the stuff
I had bought away, I set about
having some lunch. I had bought
several things I would have
loved to have for lunch, but I
felt I had to use up a pack of
two Scotch Eggs that were
already a couple of days past
their "best before" date.
I boiled up/cooked those
Scotch eggs in a bowl with the
entire contents of a can of
baked beans. They were no
ordinary baked beans. They
seemed to be an Iceland own
brand, but not actually called
Iceland. The brand was something
like "Hunger Busters. The more
important thing was that before
I put them in my shopping basket
I checked their sugar content,
and it is seemed minuscule by
Heinz standards, and even
smaller than Tesco " reduced
sugar and salt" beans. I think
the beans were good enough, but
overcooked Scotch eggs can't be
recommended. The so called
ground pork shells seemed to
turn to jelly, and were just
plain weird.
After lunch I had a lie
down. I read for a while, and
probably snoozed as well, but
before it got too late I had
some laundry to attend to. It
was a hand towel, flannel and
two pairs of underpants - one of
which was involved with the "wet
fart" I reported happened to me
the night before last. As usual
I had left them all soaking in
bio detergent, and a capful of
Dettol after I had my morning
shower. Like the last laundry I
did, I didn't think I would do
the whole washing process in one
go, but that is what I did
again. I haven't checked, but
they should all be dry this
morning.
Apart from dinner, a bit
of Star Trek, and then reading
and bed, I didn't really do any
more yesterday. Dinner was
supposed to be a fairly light
dinner, but with two 3 inch
diameter quiches, and a whole
tub of coleslaw and cheese, it
was not that light. To help
buffer against acid
reflux/heartburn I had a dessert
of a whole small tub of
hopefully low sugar ice cream.
Whether the ice cream
helped, or if the first
Esomeprazole tablet was already
working, I didn't seem to suffer
any heartburn when I turned over
to go to sleep.I can't be sure,
but I think I was asleep a
little bot before 9pm last
night. It was not a perfect
sleep. It seemed to be quite a
hot and sticky night, but the
fan just seemed to feel chilly.
I'm not sure if it was the heat
and stickiness, but I didn't
seem to have any other reason
for an hour of insomnia between
2 and 3am this morning.
I woke up at other times
to pee - at least every 2 hours,
although some of those were
almost dream like, and I can't
say with 100% certainty that one
or more was not a dream,
although I have reasons for
thinking I did pee a lot last
night. I was also drinking a
lot. At first it was some
residue from chewing a couple of
Gaviscon tablets (just in
case...) that left a dry mouth,
but also there was my tickly
throat. It was actually far less
tickly, than it was, but I was
also starting to cough up some
very small amounts of mucus.
I almost got up at just
gone 6am, but I thought "just 5
minutes more". I didn't really
realise it, but I must have got
an extra hours sleep before I
did get up. I seemed to feel
almost OK except for the cough.
It seems to come and go, and
sometime I wonder why I needed
to cough, but sometimes I still
continue to cough up a tiny
amount of mucus. It does feel
like I am getting better though.
After getting up I did
quite a big pee, and passed a
fair sized poo. I then weighed
myself. I seemed to have lost
most of the large spike of
weight I had yesterday, but I
was not expecting anything
better considering what I had
eaten yesterday. Maybe another
day like yesterday and my weight
could be almost as low as the
reading the nurse took when I
saw here last week.
Also, based upon what I
ate yesterday, I was not
expecting to get good readings
when I checked my blood glucose
readings. What I actually read
were not good, but they could
still be described as very
ordinary. The Contour
meter read 8.6mmol/l - very
slightly above my old target.
The GlucoRX meter read a
slightly better 8.4mmol/l, and
the Sinocare meter gave an even
lower reading of 8.2mmol/l. They
all average out to very slightly
higher than yesterday's average,
but very slightly less than the
average of the day before
yesterday. One other measurement
was my blood pressure, and it
was a very good 103/46, although
my pulse rate at 58bpm was a
little higher than usual.
There were two things I
was aiming to day today, but I
think I might only have time for
one of them. That one is to go
to the pharmacy to hopefully
collect my latest repeat
prescription. It feels like it
will be unlikely, but if I am
very lucky two of my pills will
be of the higher dosage as
recommended by Lewisham
Hospital's cardiology
department. The other thing,
which I doubt I have tome for
now, would have been to go to
Tesco to buy some bottles of
Diet Coke. I expect I'll be
drinking the last of what I have
here tomorrow morning, and then
a visit will be very important.
The main thing on today's
menu is a beer tasting session
with Jodie. There are quite a
lot of beers from the delivery
before last to get through until
we can start the latest
delivery. There is one exception
to that rule - if we see Michael
there were a few beers I ordered
with him in mind that I hope he
would like. It is not impossible
that we might see him, but it is
probably very unlikely.
