Yesterday was a curious day. The
forecast sunny spells were very
sparse, and a lot of the day
seemed a bit dull. However, it
was dry, and it did feel warm
thanks to light winds. The
temperature did seem to reach
the predicted 23° C
It seems the Met
Office weather forecast for today
might be more accurate than the
BBC forecast shown in the
screenshot above. As I type this
it is a bit cloudy, but there does
seem to be some weak and watery
sunshine seeping through a thinner
bit of cloud. If the forecast turn
out to be mostly correct then the
clouds should disperse soon to
give full sunshine all day long.
That should raise the temperature
up to 24° C. Tomorrow may only see
sunny spells, but the temperature
could reach 26° C.
After a terrible sleep
where I barely got half the sleep
I needed, and that sleep being of
pretty poor quality, plus a sort
of tenderness after the stomach
upset that caused the lack of
sleep, yesterday morning did not
get off to a great start. It took
a lot of will power to write the
1,893 words that I apparently
wrote yesterday. I shudder to
think how many words I missed out,
and how many words were misspelt,
plus the grammatical mistakes I
made.
I was a lot happier when I
had finished writing. It was quite
late when I finished - probably at
least 11.30am - but I didn't seem
to care for anything except
finishing. Once finished I laid on
my bed, and read for a a little
while before having my first
snooze for the day. I don't think
I can estimate how long that
snooze lasted, but I suspect it
was not that long. I do seem to
remember having my morning shower
around 1pm.
After my shower I put some
laundry in to soak in detergent,
and then I went back to laying on
my bed, reading, and once again,
snoozing. It must have been around
3pm when I decided I really should
go and finish doing the laundry.
It was not a huge load, although
it sometimes seemed it. It was a
single t-shirt, a pair of lounge
pants, and 4 pairs of underpants.
It was looking a bit dull outside
when I finished it. I could have
hung it on the washing line, and
with hindsight it would probably
have dried quickly. I actually
hung it on the big clothes horse
in the front room.
Hanging it up to dry
indoors was probably the best
option for how I felt. It avoided
having to rush outside to bring it
in, and I could, and did just
ignore it. It is all still on the
clothes horse this morning. I had
leff a desk fan blowing at it all
night, and I assume it is bone dry
now. Later on I will fetch it all,
and put it away ready to use
again. After hanging it on the
clothes horse I went back to
laying on my bed, and I think I
probably had another snooze (as
well as reading more pages from my
book).
At about 4.30pm I was
checking the internet to see if
Aldi was open yesterday (it was
August bank holiday), and the
internet said it was. I got myself
dressed to go out, and at just
before 5pm, and incredibly late
time for me to go shopping, I took
a stroll to Aldi. At this point I
had deliberately not eaten since
breakfast. I was trying, and
succeeding in getting my very high
blood glucose down. I was
obviously feeling quite hungry,
and I had to be very careful not
to buy any naughty foods.
A lot of what I wanted to
buy was just drinks. I bought two
more 4 packs of Ald IPA to stop
Jodie moaning that I had drunk it
all last time, and she had not
tried it. I also bought and eight
pack of 330ml cans of Vanilla
flavoured Coca Cola Zero, two 2
litre bottles of lemon flavoured
Diet Coke, and two 1 litre bottles
of sugar free cream soda. All that
drink weighed a lot, and I didn't
want to add any food to the
weight.
I did buy some food - a
solitary tub of crispy fried
onions, but nothing that could be
eaten by itself. I topped off my
purchase with a 9 pack of toilet
roll, and two big rolls of kitchen
towel. The heaviest things, the
two 2 litre bottles, and the 8
pack of Vanilla cola, I stuffed
into my rucksack. The rest of ot
was split over two shopping bags,
and they didn't feel all that
heavy.
The walk home was almost
pleasant because the sun had come
out, although I was walking into
the glaring sun, which spoiled
things a bit. The odd thing was
that when walking to the store,
and walking home again, I had a
few individual aches that together
seemed similar to a very mild
angina. I think they were just
sore muscles and creaky joint
after spending so much time laying
down. Maybe they slightly slowed
me down, but I still felt I got
home quite quickly, and with no
added pains.
It took very little time to
put my shopping away because
things like the bottles and can
had to sit on the floor because
there was no room in any fridge
for them. When checking for space
in the big fridge I happened to
notice something that I really
should not eat, but I could not
help myself. It was a pack of two
ham and cheese slices. I feel sure
they were very unhealthy in many
ways, but they looked enticing,
and it seemed just a little too
early to cook dinner.
I think I will put most of
the blame on those cheese and ham
slices for not getting my blood
glucose as low as I hoped this
morning. It is ironic that while I
thought they were enticing, they
were actually far from good.
Cheese and ham would/could be a
delicious filling, but there
seemed no more that a smear of
something inside the pastry case,
and all I could tasty was greasy
pastry.
It was while I was eating
those pastry slices that the first
of some good news came through. A
solid state hard drive I had
ordered was reported as being
despatched, and would be delivered
today. Also, the first of two
class 5 USB bluetooth dongles,
originally not expected until near
the end of next month, was
reported as despatched for
delivery today. Since then another
two items were reported as
despatched - a second solid state
hard drive, and a different make
of class 5 USB bluetooth dongle.
All should be arriving today.
What should have been only
my second meal of the day was an
Iceland "My Protein" Meat Feast
Pasta. In fact, because of those
not very good, cheese and ham
slices, it was actually my third
meal of the day, and I didn't have
any snacks at all during the day.
I had almost followed my intended
plan, but those cheese and ham
slices ruined what could have been
perfection. The nutritional
information on the back showed
this pasta meal to contain more
sugar that I thought was wise. I
really need to start double
checking this Iceland range of
foods before buying it in the
future. Some of it is not quite as
good as it could be, although the
calorie count is always fairly
good.
Although yesterday was a
bank holiday Monday, it seems that
most TV companies stuck to their
normal weekday schedules, and so I
could have watched all four Star
Trek episodes last night. In fact
I complete missed the first, and
started watching about halfway
through the second (Star Trek:
Enterprise). I'm sure I watched
all of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,
but it was not a great episodes,
and I "saw it" rather than
"watched" it. Star Trek: Voyager
was such a bad episode that I
turned the TV off before it was
halfway through.
I returned to laying on my
reading, but I didn't want to go
to sleep because I wanted to watch
and record an episode of The New
Avengers that started at 9pm. It
was both good and bad, and I am
not sure why either is
justified.It may have been because
I good 90 minute story had to be
rammed into a 45 minutes (after
the adverts had been removed)
episode. On the other hand, maybe
90 minutes of it might have got
boring.....
I did the usual of brushing
my teeth, and generally getting
ready for bed during the
commercial breaks, and 2 minutes
after it ended at 10pm, I was in
bed, and reading a few pages
before trying for sleep. I did
indeed only read a few pages to
get to the end of the chapter, and
then, with almost zero effort, I
was sound asleep. I think I slept
rather well last night.
It is true that I had to
get up to pee a few times, but I
fell asleep almost instantly after
getting back in bed. I can only
remember the theme of one dream
(or maybe a few dreams all on the
same theme). It was another of
being back at work, possibly after
retiring, but maybe in the lead up
to retirement. It was definitely a
case of me using work as a sort of
hobby, and not caring if I was
sacked for any reason. I must
admit, that when it was actually
real, it was a great feeling of
freedom. Apart from being my usual
lazy self, I didn't go out of my
way to upset management, but if I
had in some way, I would not feel
an ounce of guilt about it.
I woke up before 6am, and
it seemed to early to get up. I
tried to go back to sleep, and
didn't think I had until I
suddenly noticed that about 20
minutes had passed in the blink of
an eye. I must have had at least a
brief sleep before I finally got
up. Apart from a strong desire to
go for a pee, I seemed to feel
fairly OK. Sadly I didn't seem to
need a poo at that time. I still
registered a decent weight drop of
600gm since the morning before.
I had hoped that I might
have read some nice and low blood
glucose readings this morning.
Sadly not. They were clear of the
danger zone, but nothing to
celebrate. The Contour meter read
8.0mmol/l. That is fairly good,
bit I still aim for figures in the
sevens or lower. The GlucoRX meter
read 8.7mmol/l, and that is a
little too close to 9 to be very
good, but it is still "OK". The
Sinocare meter read
8.1mmol/l, and that is slightly
better than "OK". At least my
blood pressure is very good at
104/44 this morning.
The whole of today hinges
around my Amazon delivery. I
expect it will either be around
2pm, or after 6pm. It still means
that I am effectively grounded
today. If I can raise the
enthusiasm I should have plenty of
time to do some simple housework
this morning. That might included
scrubbing the beer stains off the
dining room table, and maybe even
hoovering the dining room carpet.
I might even get time for a quick
shower.
This afternoon I will be on
high alert for my delivery. Once
it comes I will definitely be
experimenting with the two class 5
USB Bluetooth dongles. I might
even start to do something with
the two solid state hard drives.
The smaller is to go in one of my
laptops. It should, or maybe
could, reduce the power
consumption, and so eke a little
more life from the battery. The
larger drive is intended to
replace the "spinning rust" (i.e,
conventional hard disk) in my main
PC, or perhaps a new PC. I have
two unused PC's that I bought very
cheaply from Amazon as "ex-office"
PCs. On might be faster than my
current PC, but I think it lacks
USB port and SATA ports, and so is
unsuitable as a drop in
replacement for my current PC. I
am unsure about the other one....I
bought it some time ago now.
