Neither the BBC or Met Office got things quite right yesterday. The BBC predicted black clouds, andf almost non stop light rain. The Met Office said light clouds, and just a few showers. The Met Office was probably closer to the truth, but forgot that that cloud was often thin enough for some nice sunny spells. There were a few light showers, and one very heavy downpour in the early afternoon. The temperature probably reached 16° C, as forecast by the Met Office.

As usual, the Met Office and BBC disagree about today's weather. The BBC forecast is shown in the screenshot above. The Met Office say sunny spells all day, although the first has not happened yet, and that makes both forecasts wrong. As I write this there is a lot of cloud, but there are also some blue areas, but they are in the wrong place for the sun. Assuming the cloud breaks up more we could get the promised sunny spells, and the temperature may rise to 16° C (or only 15° C in BBC land). The Met Office predict tomorrow to be identical to how they forecast today, but the BBC have thrown in a few hours of non stop sunshine, and say the temperature tomorrow could be 16° C.

Yesterday was an interesting day. The weather was not as forecast, and my aches and pains were different. I also felt sort of more relaxed, and that thing that is almost the opposite of sad and depressed. I achieved almost nothing, but I di go out, and managed to regulate my eating better.

The highlight of yesterday was going to The Jolly Farmers for a couple of pints of Guinness, and to do the crosswords in The Metro. Once I had finished writing I had my traditional rest before heading to the bathroom where I not only showered, but had a wet shave. I can't remember if it was just before, or during my shower that the sun came out. That seemed a good omen.

After showering I started to get dressed to go out, and I didn't have to do it too slowly because my shower water was almost just tepid, and I didn't feel over heated. In fact I almost felt chilly. After getting dressed I got the few things together I wanted to take with me - two pens and one of my Nikon S6300 pocket cameras. I loaded these into my coat pockets, and as I did that the sun came out again.

It seemed the perfect time to go to the station, but I decided it would be prudent to have an extra pee before going out. I did that, and then put on my coat and opened my front door to see that there had just been a passing shower. It had stopped at that point, and the sun was shining again. It was only a short sunny spell, but there were more of them as I travelled to the pub.

Once again I left home early so I didn't have to rush to the station, and once again I hardly slowed down at all. I didn't have any hints of angina pain when I reached the station, but my legs were complaining a bit. I must have lost so much muscle tone over the last year when angina has stopped me doing much, if any, exercise. I tapped in at the Oyster reader, picked up two copies of The Metro (one for me, and one for Ayse), and then realised that the next train was still a couple of minutes away.

The original plan was to just miss that train, but to still see photograph it as it called at the other side of the station. However, with no more than 20 seconds to get my breath back, I went over the footbridge to catch that early train. To my surprise I didn't get any angina pains, although I was slightly short of breath when I got to the other side. I made it with almost a full minute to spare.

There was another sunny spell when I got to Ladywell, and my walk from there to the pub should have been nice, but once again my legs complained a bit, and I had to force myself to take deep breaths to stop getting breathless. When I arrived at the pub I found a group of men sitting at the bar who are notoriously loud, but some of what they say can be amusing. It was almost as if they were already pissed.

I also found there was a lady sitting at "my" table. I know her enough to talk to. She is normally with another older woman, but yesterday she was on her own, and as I looked around for another place to sit she said I might as well sit at the same table. The only problem was that at the end of the table the light is a bit dim, and I was struggling to read the clues in the crosswords. I think I have got to that stage in life where "my eyes are dim" !

It slowed me down a bit, but I persevered, and managed to read and solve a few clues. After maybe half an hour the lady went back to work, and I could move to where the dim light was a bit brighter. The curious thing about yesterday is that I could not finish the quick crossword, but I did manage to do over half, maybe even two thirds, of the cryptic crossword. I didn't even look at the time, but at about halfway through my second pint the rain came crashing down.

It was really heavy, and I was thinking that maybe I would have to stay for a third pint of Guinness, and it would have been a great excuse for another. As I was reaching the bottom of my second pint, the rain stopped, and the sun was trying to come out. I had lost my excuse, and I made a break for it while the weather looked OK. There were a few drops of rain blowing in the breeze. I could feel them on my face, but they didn't seem to get me wet.

Maybe it was prudent not to have a third pint. After just two pints I could feel that Guinness swirling around inside of me, and making me feel closer to angina, and breathlessness as I walked to the far end of the platform at Ladywell station. It is odd because it is possibly only a 3 or 4 minute walk from the pub, but most times in the last 4 or 5 months, including yesterday, that walk is enough for the start of angina pains.

I was not looking forward to the walk from Catford Bridge station to home. For some unknown reason it was almost OK. My legs ached a bit, but not that much, and I had no hints of angina pain, and hardly any breathlessness. When I got home I did two things. One was to get some lunch. I had thought of having a can of soup, but I was thinking I might have soup for dinner. I just had rice crackers and cheese for a late lunch, and this time I did not smother them with low sugar and salt tomato ketchup.

The other thing I did was to check the photos of train I had taken. Sadly not one of the trains would add to my spreadsheet of train photos. I am going to have to go further afield to get pictures of trains that are run by different train companies, and don't go through Catford. After eating lunch, checking my train photos, and seeing if anything new was on the internet (or a very few selected parts of it), I laid on my bed, read for a while and had a snooze.

Time seemed to slip by easily, and before I know it, it was time to switch on the TV, and watch some Star Trek - starting with Star Trek: Enterprise. In fact I didn't "watch" much of it because most of my attentions was on trying to solve a few more cryptic crossword clues. Just before 6pm, and the start of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine I decided it was time for dinner. As per my earlier ideas I did have just soup, but followed by a very light dessert.

I started with a can of Aldi own brand beef and chunky vegetable soup. With a good splash of chilli sauce it was nice and tasty, and almost, but not really, filling. The can reported quite a low sugar content. My second course was a can of Tesco chicken and chunky vegetables soup. Once again it was nice with enough hot chilli sauce, and it too reported and even lower amount of sugar. My third course was a dessert, but it was only a single apple and a chunk of cheese. My whole dinner seemed quite satisfying.

The last Star Trek finished at 8pm, and by then it was dark outside, and getting cool. I think I turned the heater off about half an hour before Star Trek: Voyager finished, and once finished there seem to be not reason not to go to bed to read for an hour in the warmth of under the duvet. It was still at least 10 minutes before 9pm when I came to the end of a chapter in the book, and I took that as my cue to try for sleep.

As far as I can recall, sleep seemed to come quick and easy. It was only an hour later (although it could have been two hours) before I was awake again. All the chilli sauce I added to the soups had had it's revenge on me. My pillow was soaked in sweat, and worst of all was that the end of my duvet, where it had been tucked under my chin, was also wet with sweat. After going for a pee it took what seemed like ages to turn my pillow around, and try to avoid coming into contact with the cold seat on the duvet, and then eventually fall asleep. In reality it maybe have been no more than 10 minutes.

I don't know if it is a sign of good sleep, or not, but once again I can remember a lot of dreams, but I can't really remember enough about them to try and describe any of them. I think that at least one dream, or maybe a series of short dreams, was influenced by the book I was reading - the final Stainless Steel Rat book by author Harry Harrison - The Stainless Steel Rat Returns. I don't think I had any more dreams that were a flashback to when I was at work, but there was one dream that I seem to think involved some sort of electronics and either a repair or modification, but the details now elude me.

I had some rather good news this morning, and it was possible that it partly came about after I decided it was too dark outside to get up, and somehow, rather easily, went back to sleep after going for a pee. I awoke again a full hour later, and had to go for a pee again, and this time also a poo. When I got on the scales I was delighted to see that I appeared to have lost another 700gms.

I was suspicious that it was all to do with peeing a lot more than usual, and that I was probably dehydrated. Being dehydrated would mean my blood glucose measurements would be rather high, but they weren't ! The Contour meter read a very nice 7.7mmol/l. The GlucoRX meter read an even better 7,5mmol/l - spot on my new and improved target. Sadly the Sinocare meter let me down with a very average 8.3mmol/l, but at least that is still better than my old target of 8.5mmol/l - a target I have struggled to meet on may days over the last month.

I am sure I have mentioned that I believed my large weight gain recently was probably something to do with water retention, I am at a loss to say why that should happen, although I supposed a problem with the kidneys could be to blame. Right now it seems I have overcome the problem, and my weight is back to being on the road to new lows (hopefully), and it can't be dehydration because my blood glucose is nice and low. Maybe it was something I ate....or didn't eat.

It is now 10am and the sky is mostly grey, and so far we have not seem a single ray of sunshine. I am inclined to scrap plan A, which was a tentative idea that I might go to Stanmore, on the Jubilee line to add another tick to my travels to the limits of my Freedom Pass project - that hasn't seen an entry for at least a year of two. I am think that plan B is probably more important, and it is to go to Tesco where I will have to try and be even more selective about what I buy than last time. I will have to reject all possibly "Reduced Price" bargains if they don't suit my needs for lower sugar and calories foods. I can imagine buying more cans of soup. They may not exactly be a balanced diet, but when selected with care, they do seem very beneficial in many ways.
