I usually try and take a
decent picture of all
station names or
roundels, but on
Friday's outing I only
took these two.
The trouble with
my pictures of
Underground trains is
that somehow the sun
conspired to be behind
them, or at least at a
not ideal angle. I
took this picture at
Kilburn station. I can't
be sure, but I think
Metropolitan Line trains
used to stop there many
years ago, but now they
just pass by on an outer
set of tracks, with the
Jubilee line trains on
the inner tracks either
side of the island
platform.
This time the sun
was in the right
position to light up the
side of the train, buy
the front is in shadow.
it was beginning feel
like I would never get
any good pictures in the
north of London !
This picture,
which is the rear of the
train in the previous
pictures, was almost
good. The sun is part
lighting up the back,
and a lot of the side is
in full sunshine -
except for the huge
shadow cast by the
platform canopy. This is
fast turning into a
lesson on how not to
take good pictures !
Almost a good
picture in terms of
lighting, but it seems a
bit gritty, or grubby.
Maybe it is actually
grubby, although the
rear windshield glasses
look clean enough. These
trains are easy to
identify. The number
seen in the bottom left
breaks down to (19)96,
the year this stock was
introduced, and 072 -
the 72nd train of the
series.
This picture
doesn't seem too bad.
This was actually the
train I got to go from
Kilburn station to
Stanmore station. All
the pictures of
underground trains show
so far were taken at
Kilburn station. It is
quite a busy station !
I think this was
the train I had got off
when travelling from
Stanmore back to Wembley
Park station. I had
decided to change here
to get a Metropolitan
line train to travel to
Farringdon where I could
change to a Thameslink
train.
While waiting for
a Metropolitan line
train I saw the next
Jubilee line train
approaching just mere
minutes after the last
one had departed Wembley
Park station. Once
again, what might have
been a good picture was
marred by bad shadows on
the train.
I didn't have
long to wait at
Farringdon station for a
train to London Bridge -
where I took this
picture of another
Thameslink, class 700
train, 700104. Trains
with a number greater
than 700100 are all 12
car trains, and we never
see them going through
Catford station. The
Catford Loop Line can
only take 8 car trains,
and they have numbers
less than than 700100,
That means I still have
plenty of 12 car
versions still to "spot"
and add to me grand
spreadsheet of trains
and their numbers
photographed.
Although I didn't
end up using many
pictures on the second
day of photos from last
Friday, it seemed like
really hard work to do
all the selecting and
editing. I was feeling
dead tired, and wanted
to stop. I had to grit
my teeth, and carry on
until I had got these
pictures ready to show
here. I could have
showed even more, but
none would have shown
any more than those I
have shown.
It was a huge
relief to stop work, and
have a lie down. I read
for a bit, but I don't
think I
snoozed.....although I
wouldn't be surprised if
I had had. One thing
that partly kept me
alert was hunger. I felt
quite peckish, and even
though dinner was only
about an hour away, I
did have two small (25gm
?) packets of Hula Hoops
plus a naughty biscuit
or two.
My dinner was to
be the Salmon &
Broccoli Melt (as shown
above). It only provided
294 calories, and
contained just 6.1gm of
sugar. This ready meal,
which should have been
kept frozen, but was
slowly defrosting in the
bottom of the fridge for
2 or 3 days, was the
reason I didn't carry
out my idea of going to
the Poundshop, and then
going home via the House
of Noodles. I had to use
this ready meal up
before it spoiled.
In some respects,
it was a very small
meal, and it was not
that great that such a
small, snack-like, meal
should still have so
much sugar in it. It
took a hell of a lot of
will power not to have
more to eat after eating
this tiny meal. It was
lucky I didn't eat any
more because it seems I
ate more than I have
listed if my health
measurements this
morning are anything to
go by.
There were a few
programmes on Sky Arts
last night that were
(multiple) repeats, but
still worth another
watch. First on was
Dave
Gilmour at the Gdansk
shipyard concert in
2006. Sadly it
seems that Sky has
edited it down to fit
their schedules, and one
song I would really like
to have heard, "Fat Old
Sun" was not shown
(unless it was the very
first song, and I missed
it). It was followed by
the story of the making
of the Pink Floyd Album
"
Wish
You Were Here". It
is possibly my favourite
Pink Floyd album, and
much of it was written
in memory of the younger
Syd
Barrett whose
brain died from too much
LSD years before his
body died.
I'm unsure what
time I went to bed, but
I think it was probably
a bit before 11pm. I
know I took a couple of
Gaviscon tablets because
I was burping a bit, and
a few burps seemed
acidy. Once I felt
comfortable I quickly
fell asleep, and I guess
that was very near 11pm.
I seemed to sleep well,
although I did get up to
pee quite small amounts
about 3 times in the
night, and at around 3am
I turned the heater on
low.
When I got up at
around 6.15am I could
remember some bits of
dream that I could have
probably described, but
now, quite a few hours
later, I can't remember
almost anything about
them. I think one was
possibly about a woman
in the book I am still
reading. Although the
story was set in the
1970s, the everyday
morals were still very
Victorian, and so her
realationship with the
hero of the story was
very staid and virginal.
I think my dream might
have been a sort raunchy
re-telling of the story
!
I had a still
seemingly slightly small
pee when I got up, and
then another smaller one
maybe 15 minutes later.
I didn't have a poo
until well after I had
had my breakfast. When I
got on the scales I
found that superficially
I had put on weight, and
I suppose I actually had
put on weight, but if I
ignore yesterday's
weight as being
particularly low because
of the circumstances the
day before, my weight
has dropped in a nice
progression for the
previous few days.
Considering I was hardly
trying to watch my
weight yesterday, I
think of it as a
success.
My blood glucose
readings were, once
again, spread over quite
a range. The Contour
meter read 8.0mmol/l,
and that is good enough.
The GlucoRX meter read
8.5mmol/l, and while
lower would be better,
it is fine. Once again,
for reasons I don't
understand, the Sinocare
meter gave another high
reading of 9.0mmol/l -
high enough for my
colour code of pink to
show it is heading
towards the danger zone.
One unlikely possibility
is a bad batch of test
strips, but that
Sinocare meter may be
more sensitive to how
strong or dilute the
blood is through
dehydration. My
blood pressure is very
good again this morning,
and so that is good. It
was 104/60 when I
checked it a little
while ago.
Today is
already semi gloomy, and
if the forecast is
correct it will be very
gloomy soon. That does
nothing to inspire me to
be very productive, or
to go out. I think I
still may have a shower,
and wash my
hair.....just in case. I
may do some laundry
afterwards, but there is
no special rush for
that, although not
letting it build up too
much may be a better
idea. One thing I could
do today will certainly
eat up a lot of time,
although I will probably
not be very
exciting/enjoyable. Now
I've started this
dreaded new spreadsheet
listing all the
Underground trains I
have photographed, I
could go back through
all my old photos to add
more photos to the
spreadsheet. It probably
sounds like madness, and
it definitely feels like
it, but it is something
to do, and I might come
across the odd snap that
I am proud of. The catch
is that some of the
photos are so old that
they will feature
obsolete trains, and
those demand a separate
sheet in the spreadsheet
- the job just gets
bigger and bigger !
