Today will see no sunshine
according to the forecast,
although a little while ago
there was some very weak
sunshine filtering through a
crack in the clouds. I cans
see quite a lot of blue sky
at the moment, although it
is mostly to the west, and
the sun is in the east where
there is more, but still
well broken cloud. We could
have more sunshine yet ! By
midday the clouds are
predicted to be much thicker
and darker, but by then the
temperature should reach 16°
C, although that is poor
compensation for no
sunshine. Tomorrow may also
reach 16° C, and there may
even bee some sunny spells
in the afternoon. Before and
after that the cloud is
currently predicted to be
fairly light, and so it
should not be too gloomy.
Yesterday was another
of those semi good days -
not actually good enough to
be called good, but not bad
enough to be called bad. In
fact I don't think anything
negative happened except I
couldn't get to Tesco
because I was expecting an
Amazon Parcel, at a
completely unknown time,
but
before 9pm !
I knew that the
delivery had left the depot
not long after 11:30am, and
that slightly hurried me up
when I was feeling very
lazy. Something like 5 or
6pm is a common delivery
time, but I did have one as
early as about 12:30 once.
Another one that early
seemed highly unlikely, but
I thought I had better have
a shower as soon as possible
so I would not hear the
dreaded sound of the
doorbell while wet, soapy
and naked !
I really don't know
why some Amazon deliveries
don't have the same
information as others. More
often than not it the only
information is "before 9pm",
and that is bloody annoying,
and extremely double bloody
annoying if it does arrive
that late. (I once had a
delivery close to 10pm !).
Sometimes the tracking page
will give more information
that is updated during the
journey, and suggest a
possible 2 hour slot when
the delivery will take
place. once or twice I have
seen a map with
approximately where there
driver currently is. That is
very rare, but I wish they
would do that more often.
Once I had showered I
had very little to do until
first the Amazon delivery
arrived, at about 3pm (quite
early for them), and Jodie
to arrive about 30 minutes
later. The most important
item in my delivery,
although it's importance was
mostly to satisfy my
curiosity, was my fifth
blood glucose meter. It does
look smarter than some, and
It does seem more accurate
than my other two Chinese
designed, made, blood
glucose meters, but more
about that a bit later.
I think Jodie only
brought along one extra can
of beer, but that needed
chilling before being drunk,
and we may have it on
Thursday. Yesterday was when
she opened three moderately
strong fruit sour beers. I
tried all three, and all
three seemed to have what
should have been a pleasant
taste, but that taste was
dissolved in Sulphuric acid
or something. I could feel
my teeth dissolving, my
cheeks bowing inwards, and
my tongue shrivelling - and
that was just from two sips
of each beer !
I ended up opening a
few beers that Jodie had
already tried, and thus had
no interest in, that I drank
while she drunk her nasty
beers. At least one of the
beers I drank was not
exactly nice, but at least
it was not painful to drink
it. With no one else
drinking with us, I was
often bored while jodie was
scrolling through pages and
pages of Instagram, and also
Untappd, the beer logging
program, and I probably
ended up drinking more than
I might have done.
One thing I did not
realise until yesterday was
that our next beer tasting
session, on Thursday, is not
just near Halloween, but is
actually Halloween. For
that, and not really by
intention when ordered, I
have three beers we might,
or might not enjoy next
Thursday. Each should be
guaranteed to raise the
devil. They are pictured
above.
Jodie left to
get the 6:42pm train. Once
she had finished faffing
around in the kitchen,
getting her lunch together,
I had started my dinner
cooking. It was diced
chicken breast that I
smothered in two types of
chilli sauce (but not mixed
- each end of the pan had
its own type of chilli
sauce. Later in the drinking
session I went out into the
kitchen to prepare and
pre-cook a lot of green
beans.
Obviously my dinner
was grilled chicken with
green beans. It looked a bit
stark, and so I squirted
mayonnaise on the green
beans to break up the look.
It was quite a nice dinner,
but it did not seem to fully
satisfy, and I thought some
sort of dessert may have
been a good idea. I probably
should have had an apple,
but I opted to 5 or 6 sugar
free choc chip cookies.
My body clock said it
was time for bed based on
BST, and it evidently has
not made the change to GMT
yet. That meant that in GMT
time I was in bed super
early. I had nothing much to
do except read, and so being
in bed, keeping warm under
the duvet was a good idea.
It may have been an even
better idea if I had managed
to go to sleep the first
time I tried, but as soon as
I rolled over to try for
sleep, at about 8.30pm GMT,
I was struck down with
indigestion.
In one respect it was
particularly bad, and well
into acid reflux territory.
I went through a short
period of burping, and one
burp was within a gnats
whisker of being vomit. I
could feel the acid, and
maybe lumps of food, right
at the back of my throat. I
very quickly has a large
does of antacid liquid. That
stopped the burning
sensation, but I still felt
pretty bad.
On top of that, or
maybe because of it, my bed
suddenly felt really
uncomfortable. There were
lumps where there was
previously no lumps, and
somehow my arms and legs
didn't seem to fit in their
normal places. There was
nothing for it but to get
up, and sit at my computer
desk, reading stuff on the
computer, while the antacid
liquid, plus a couple of
Paracetamols did their
stuff. As I sat there I
started to feel chilly, and
so I turned the heater back
on, and from then on it was
on all night.
I am unsure, but I
think it was getting close
to midnight (or 1am BST)
before I managed to fall
asleep. I woke up a couple
of hour later to go for a
pee, but still didn't feel
all that good. I probably
got up to pee every two
hours, and by the morning I
was feeling about normal.
Once I got up, soon after
6am, I still needed another
big pee. I also had a good
poo too. I found my weight
had gone up again, although
it was still less than 2 and
3 days ago. I am still sort
of stuck in a place where my
weight goes up and down with
no positive direction up or
down trend.
This morning I had
five blood glucose meters to
try. I am only officially
recording the three on the
left. The far left is the
Contour meter, and it read
8.0mmol/l. That is good, but
still a bit higher than I
aim for. Next is the GlucoRX
meter. That is reading a
very excellent 7.0mmol/l. If
every meter read that I
would be very happy. To my
surprise, the Sinocare meter
went along with the trend
with a good reading of
7.7mmol/l. For reasons that
must involve voodoo or some
woo woo, the Vivachek meter
read a stupendously high
9.1mmol/l. I think I'll be
retiring that meter again
now. The last one on the
right, which is the new
Exactive meter, reads 8.3,
and that is close to the
Contour and Sinocare meters.
On the basis of a single
reading, it is looking like
it could be quite usable,
but I will need to try it
daily for at least a week to
decide if I am going to
replace the Sinocare meter
with it as my third meter.
A real
time update at 9:50am >
in the last hour we have
had quite a few, usually
short, sunny spells when
none were forecast. Maybe
today is going to be
better than originally
thought.
If these sunny spells
were to become longer, which
actually seems unlikely
because it looks like the
gaps between the clouds, are
closing up now, I could
almost be tempted to go out.
Ideally I shall be going to
Tesco today because there is
stuff I definitely need now
(although I wouldn't starve
or go thirsty if I didn't).
The one fly in the ointment
is that I am expecting
another delivery today. It
is sort of ironic that it
will be a very cheap pack of
paper plates, but while very
cheap, and very lightweight,
there is no way even using a
club hammer to help them on
their way, could they be put
through my letter box. All I
know at the moment is that
the parcel reached the
delivery depot at 04:14 this
morning, but as I write this
it has not gone out for
delivery.
The delivery is to be
made my Evri/Hermes and
sometimes they can be here
quite early, but the last
was something like 3pm in
the afternoon. The good
thing is that once it is
finally out for delivery the
tracking they provide is
usually good enough to
predict an approximate
delivery time at least a few
hours in advance. There
should be no conflict when I
go out to Tesco.
