The
forecast said sunshine and sunny
spells, and there were one or two,
but 99% of the dayw as just dull
and cold again. The temperature
only rose to 10° C,
and once again it felt very cold
outside.
My
right elbow, and the
barometer function on my
thermometers say rain is on
the way, and it seems the
forecast agrees, but not
until 7pm tonight when it
should start with drizzle.
After that there will be 3
hours of light rain. This
morning didn't start at 6°
C. All my thermometers say
it was around 9° C. The
afternoon may only see 10°
C. It is currently, and will
stay this way all day, very
dull. Tomorrow may be even
cooler, with a high of just
9° C, but it is possible
there will be many hours of
sunny spells.
Yesterday may have
started with me feeling
horrible, but somehow I was
feeling good from early
afternoon. It seemed like
all aches and pains had
faded away. Of course that
did come at the expense of
burning a lot of electricity
to keep the room, and much
later, two rooms warm.
Yesterday I wrote one
of my longer electronic
diaries (2342
words), although not
the longest by any
means, but it took a
fair bit of time, and
left me feeling very
lazy, and in need of a
rest when I finished
uploading it all.
After maybe as much as
an hours rest I had a
shower, and then got
ready to go out. I had
put off, or was just
unable to go to Tesco
for too long, and
while it still wasn't
absolutely essential
to go, it did seem
most important.
I was expecting
the walk to Tesco
through the cold air
to be quite painful. I
did get a few twinges,
but it was not a lot
worse than some days.
Once inside the store
I had a few definite
needs in mind - chilli
sauce, instant
noodles, and Diet
Coke. I also had a
naughty urge to get
something super nice,
and inevitably
terribly unhealthy.
What I got was
actually only a bit
unhealthy. It was a
mature cheddar and
onion quiche.
One other thing
that I wanted was
something meaty, and I
bought a (cold) ready
cooked chicken. I'll
break that down into
parts and and roast
the bits for extra
flavour. I also bought
extra fruit - some
kiwi fruits and some
Persimmons. From the
reduced price shelf I
bought a Chicken
Jalfrezi ready meal,
and that will probably
be dinner tonight. The
final things were two
different wholemeal
rolls - I had a fancy
for some cheese and
something rolls.
The walk back
home seemed extra hard
work because my
rucksack was full to
the brim (sort of)
with 8 litres of diet
coke, and three cans
of soup (another thing
I bought). I also had
a shopping back and
somehow that seemed
very full. By the time
I was home I was
feeling tired, quite
sweaty, but otherwise
not really in that
much pain. It was
definitely very good
to put all the
shopping down and take
my coat off.
After putting
all the shopping away,
except for one item, I
took that one item,
the mature cheddar and
onion quiche, and had
it for my lunch. It
was nice, but not
great. I have no idea
why I thought this one
would be any better
than all the ones I've
had in the past. After
eating I had another
lie down, read a
couple of pages, and
then I snoozed. That
snooze may have lasted
an hour. I know it
ended at 3pm, but I
have no idea when it
started.
I had to kick
myself into action
when I woke up. After
my shower I had left
some laundry soaking
in detergent, and I
was determined that I
would ignore it, and
have to do it today.
The detergent actually
still felt slightly
warm after maybe 3
hours since I had
started soaking the
laundry. The "laundry"
was actually nothing
but underpants - a
whole 10 pairs of
them. No wonder my box
of them was getting
low, although if I had
done nothing I could
still have worn fresh
underpants for maybe
another 10 days, and
perhaps a few more
days if I resorted to
some that are not as
comfortable at the
rest.
While wringing
out underpants does
not cause much
difficulty, it still
means bending down to
fish them out the
bucket to wring them
out, and that caused
some aches when having
to do it 10 times for
each stage. I got as
far as the last rinse,
and took a break to
straighten out all my
muscles. It might have
been half an hour
later when I finished
the last rinse, and
then did the
conditioner. I hung
all the underpants on
the small clothes
horse in the dining
room, with a fan
heater on low blowing
at them to help them
dry.
It wasn't long
after that before I
started to prepare my
dinner. I started off
with two wholemeal
rolls with cheese and
ham, with mustard, in
them. With hindsight I
think they would have
been far nicer with
cheese and onion
instead. After eating
the rolls I went back
down to the kitchen to
wash some fruit as a
dessert. I had two
small apples, a kiwi
fruit, and a small
"easy pealer" orange.
The orange was
not all that good, but
everything else was.
One of the small
apples was the last
one from a pack I
bought from Aldi at
least a fortnight ago.
Initially they were
hard and sour, but a
fortnight of extra
ripening made that
last one rather tasty.
I think it was on par
with the Cox apple I
had, although a
slightly different
taste. The Kiwi fruit
was nice, but very
messy to easy. My
hands were covered in
Kiwi fruit juice my
the time I had eaten
it, and I had to use
soap and water to get
them clean and non
sticky.
After my
dinner, and maybe
before it, I was
feeling really good,
in so much as I didn't
seem to have any aches
or pains. That feeling
persisted, and when I
went to bed, after
watching QI on the TV,
I got into bed, and
read without any hints
of acid indigestion,
or aches from
anywhere. I am not
sure how long I read
for, but I started to
feel sleepy, and for
the first time in ages
I seemed to just fall
asleep soon after I
turned the light out.
My guess is that was
around 11pm.
I didn't wake
up again until almost
2am, and that was for
a pee, or at least I
did have have a pee,
but it seemed small
enough that I could
have slept for another
hour before it became
important. It was only
around 5am, and when I
finally got up at
about 7.20am that I
seemed to do a big
pee. It could almost
have been that my
blood glucose was low
enough to not need to
frequently pee.
After the pee,
but sadly not a poo,
when I got up, I
weighed myself, and I
can't quite understand
how it could have
happened, but it was
as if I had lost over
one kilogram. I did do
a couple of very big
poos yesterday, but it
doesn't seem likely
they were much to do
with such a large
weight loss this
morning.
When I checked
my blood glucose I
found the strange
inverse rule was in
operation again -
large weight loss,
large glucose gain !
The Contour meter read
a very bad (but still
not extremely bad)
9.2mmol/l. The GlucoRX
meter read a bit lower
at 8.8mmol/l -
acceptable bit still
higher than
desirable). The
Exactive meter was
sort of sensible this
morning with a reading
only a bit higher than
the Contour meter,
although on second
thoughts, 9.8mmol/l is
more than a little bit
higher.
Another
illogical surprise is
that my blood pressure
has returned closer to
it's average this
morning. It is 106/49.
The illogical surprise
is because this
morning I am in pain
again, although this
pain has a sort of
real reason. The ache
from my right elbow
and wrist sort of
mirrors the reading on
my thermometers with
built in barometer
functions. Neither
give a numerical
display of atmospheric
pressure, but they do
show a trend, and a
suggestion of what
they trend means. This
morning that say rain
is coming, and
although I don't think
a full scientific
reason for it has ever
been satisfactorally
explained, it is a
well documented thing
that many people,
particularly older
people, say their
joints start to ache
when bad weather is on
the way - and I am
included in with those
older people !
There is
nothing I have to do
today, and there is
nothing I want to do.
It looks like I can
have a really lazy
day. Maybe that might
be a bit too boring,
and I'll find some
stuff to do. One thing
is likely to be more
laundry. Only about 5%
(and a completely wild
guess) of my t-shirts
are in the laundry
basket, and I could
probably see the new
year in before I need
to worry about having
a fresh t-shirt, but I
may as well wash a
couple, or maybe all
three (!) today. I
can't see myself going
out today, although I
am sort of curious
about how well my very
thickest, hooded
winter coats fit this
winter. I am
theoretically about
one single, measly
kilogram lighter than
some days last winter,
and so those coats may
be ever so slightly
less tight. Maybe,
just maybe I might do
a short walk to
Poundland or something
if I feel the urge to
stretch my legs.
