Yesterday's weather was sort of
bland for a lot of the time.
The morning featured sunny spells,
but by about 2pm the cloud had
thickened enough to give some rain,
and for a while it was heavy enough
to give a flash of lightning, and
peal of thunder - and this time the
BBC did not forecast it (as they
sometimes do, but it rarely
happens). Most of the afternoon rain
was light, and it was probably
before 6pm when the rain had
stopped, and we had more sunny
spells. The early afternoon briefly
peaked at 18° C. By midnight it was
probably down to the forecast 12° C.
Today could be a lot like
yesterday. It has been, and seems to
still be a sunny morning, but maybe it
was degrade to just sunny spells soon.
The afternoon could feature light
rain, but the early evening should see
sunny spells back. Of course the
evenings are now getting quite short,
and sunset will be just after 7pm
tonight. The afternoon may only peak
at just 17° C.
Tonight may be no colder than last
night. Tomorrow may start with some
light rain - much of the night will
also see light rain. I don't actually
believe it, but from 8am tomorrow we
could see sunny spells for the rest of
the day, except for 4pm when there
could be a light shower. Tomorrow high
may only be 17° C again.
Yesterday seemed a fairly
relaxed day. I was expecting a parcel
to be delivered by my regular postman,
and I usually see him around midday,
plus or minus half an hour. There was
a possibility it might have been
delivered by the Royal Mail van which
is often seen earlier. I decided I
would stay ready, but not washed,
until the parcel arrived. It arrived
almost when expected at about half
past midday.
The small parcel contained a
new pair of shorts, and I made dam
sure they had belt loops so that next
summer I can wear the shorts, which
are shorter shorts than my usual
walking short, with a nice strong belt
so they don't fall down on me like
those that having only an elasticated
waist. It occurs to me that there
could be one flaw in these future
plans. If the Mounjaro injections work
as they are supposed to, I could drop
quite a few trouser waist inches, and
next summer I might have to buy new
shorts and trousers. I remember a
similar thing back in 1982.
In 1982 (possibly starting in
1981) I managed to reduce my waist
size by about 8 inches or more. They
are in poor condition (but just about
wearable), but I saves the smallest
pair of jeans I have ever known myself
to wear (although they must have been
a bit smaller when I was just a kid).
It has been a long ambition to be able
to put them on again. If those
injections are as magic as claimed,
maybe I will be able to wear those
jeans again.
Once the postman had called
with my parcel I could indulge in the
semi luxury of having a shower, but it
did seem a bit late, and I didn't wash
my hair as originally intended
(fortunately it didn't look bad once
brushed). Once freshly cleaned and
fragrant I got dressed, and ready to
go out. There was no time for a walk
in the park, and besides which I
didn't want to end up too knackered,
but there was plenty of time to go
shopping in Aldi.
After some low key excitement
of shopping in Aldi again, after a
pause of a few weeks or a couple of
months, the excitement has now faded
away, and I was able to almost be a
lot more careful about how much I
threw into my shopping trolley. I did
buy fruit, but no vegetable. I was
laughably relying on the ready meals I
bought to provide a balanced diet ! I
bought maybe half a dozed ready meals,
and I also bought 3 tubs of ice cream.
I was trying to buy ice cream
that had Sodium Alginate listed as
part of it's ingredients because I
feel sure that what I read about
Sodium Alginate blocking sugar
absorption in the gut, is true.
Unfortunately trying to read tiny type
through a layer of frost did not make
the task easy, or even possible. One
of the ice creams was in a container
that was not a tub - and so have a lot
more ice cream in it. It listed Sodium
Alginate as the last item, and so
would not have had a lot of it. This
story continues when I start writing
about this morning.
On this shopping trip my
rucksack was not overloaded, and the
two bags I carried were not very heavy
(they weren't light though). I didn't
walk home extra fast, but I didn't
hang about either. I was spurred on by
the feeling that getting to the toilet
to have a pee would be a fine idea.
Once I got home I dropped all my
shopping, and went up to the toilet.
Once I got there my apparent need
became a lot less, and although I
still wanted a pee, it was not the
gallons I expected before I reached
home. I think I would describe it as
only a modest amount.
Having dealt with that pee I
started unpacking my bags, and putting
my shopping away. Then it was time for
lunch. I had deliberately bought some
sliced and some grated cheese because
I fancied cheese on toast, but my mind
has slipped in Aldi, and I found I was
putting another couple of "wraps" in
my shopping trolley. They are probably
not good for me, but I had Chicken
Tikka in a naan bread wrap, and
something very similar, but a bit
different as a wrap around some
Morrocan style chicken (I think it had
apricots in it, but I didn't really
notice any apricot in it).
I still had time for a quick
snooze, or at least that is what
happened rather what was intended,
before Jodie arrived for a beer
tasting session. When she arrived she
decided to open a can of weird beer.
It was one I had ordered and paid for,
and for some stupid reason I didn't
think I would be sharing it with
myself. I like to get a few beers in
that I presume Jodie will like. This
one was one she did like, but I
thought it was disgusting. I had a few
sips, and then opened a can of Irn Bru
to help take the taste away.
Michael did his usual of saying
he had doubts about whether he could
get here, and then turned up earlier
than usual. As usual he had brought a
few beers with him - basic supermarket
beers like Heiniken - that he knew he
definitely liked in case our beers
were too weird for him - which does
happen occasionally, but there always
alternatives here (I always buy some
lagers or pilsners when ordering beer
supplies).
Michael seemed in a fairly good
state, but sometimes I do wonder if he
is going down the dementia road. I had
bought him a few key chains so that he
wouldn't have to go through the
pantomime of trying to find where he
had put his keys before he left here.
He claimed to have never noticed my
keys on their chain attached to my
trousers (only on my outdoor
trousers). For some weird reason he
thought keys on a chain may be a gay
signal - instead of the more universal
heavy metal signal !
A little later we were joined
by Mark. He only "bought" 30 minutes
or parking, and so he and Jodie left
about half an hour later, and Michael
just a few minutes after that. I could
finally have my dinner. I must admit I
was looking forward to it, and that
was despite not drinking that much
booze. My dinner was another pulled
pork with rice and green cabbage ready
meal, and some ice cream. It was from
the new container of salted caramel
flavour ice cream I had bought from
Aldi earlier, and I did seem to eat a
fair amount of it...or at least a bit
more than I thought was probably safe.
I ate my dinner while watching
TV. It was too late to watch the news,
and I was watching Star Trek: The New
Generation...I think ? I would
occasionally look at other stuff on my
PC, sometimes because I was a bit
bored, and always during a commercial
break. I turned off the TV at 11pm
when QI finished, although I thought
it usually finished at 10pm, but
sometimes they swap around QI and Have
I Got News For You.
I did try and read when I got
to bed, but I soon realised I wanted
to sleep. I think I was fast asleep
about half an hour after getting to
bed. I seemed to sleep well, but I
don't remember having any dreams, or
at least I can't recall any details of
any dream if I did have one. I mostly
remember that it was another morning
when I woke up earlier than I would
have chosen, but got up to do my
health measurements. I didn't go back
to bed after doing them because I saw
there were some updates for my
computer, and some tech news to amuse
me.
This morning I didn't know what
to expect when it came to weighing
myself. I knew I had eaten well, and I
had had beer. That all added up to a
weight gain of 300gm. That is not
welcome, but not that bad. I think I
did go for another pee, and a poo a
little later, but forgot to record
what I saw when I weighed myself
again. That was a bit annoying,
because I may well have been a couple
of hundred grams lighter than my
records now show.
My blood glucose measurement
was always going to be interesting
after eating some naughty, but very
nice, salted caramel ice cream last
night. The Contour meter read
8.2mmol/l, and while I prefer readings
under 8.0mmol/l, it was almost a good
reading. The GlucoRX meter read
8.1mmol/l, and while a bit lower, it
would still have been better if it
were lower still. The GlucoFix meter
read the highest, but it was still
only 8.3mmol/l. I would have expected
all these readings to be higher, and
so maybe I was saved by the Sodium
Alginate in the ice cream. I think I
have to say they were very
satisfactory.
This morning I was kept on the
phone by my "friend" Lee. He claims he
has no one else to talk to these days
despite always claiming he has so many
friends. The trouble is he describes
the bloke down the road in the paper
shop to be one of his friends because
he sometimes chats for a minute or two
when buying something in there. Of
course it could be that I am one of
the last "Friends" he has who is
prepared to listen to him reliving his
past because his future is so dull
(but that is just how old age is).
I finally got off the phone to
him when I said I just had to go
before my lunch got cold. It was two
slices of cheese on toast. Now I am
finishing writing this after I have
eaten lunch. That is a first, and I
hope it is going to be the last. My
plans for today, as terribly vague as
they were, are now all in turmoil.
Once I have finished writing this, and
uploaded to my web server, I will
still have a lie down as I usually do
- except it is usually a couple of
hours earlier.
Once I have had what will
hopefully, but doesn't need to be, a
short rest, I will have a shower, and
I ought to wash my hair this time.
After that I may go out for a walk. I
feel I ought to have one,
but
in an hours time it may start raining.
My original thoughts were that I might
go for a walk, and be back home before
it rains. I don't think I have any
idea now about what I might do today.
If I am very lucky, and the sun is
still shining later, I may still go
for a walk around the park, but I
can't imagine anything better than
that, and I am having a hard time even
imagining that much !
