Yesterday started damp, but at
12° C it was not very cold. The
afternoon featured some sunny spells,
and the temperature briefly peaked at
16° C. At sunset the temperature fell
to 14° C, and it stayed close to that
all night long.
Despite what the forecast says,
I feel sure I saw at least one brief
sunny spell this morning, and maybe
more, but it is very definitely grey
outside as I write this. The
temperature seemed to stay flat
through the night, and today started
where yesterday finished at 14° C. The
temperature may rise to 15° C at 11am,
and then fall back to 14° C at 2pm.
There may be a couple of sunny spells
this afternoon. From 4pm no rain is
actually shown, but the chance of rain
rises to 15%, and then slowly rises
until it hits 50% at 8pm when rain is
actually shown on the forecast.
Tomorrow may start at 15° C, but rise
to 16° C for the afternoon. It will
then drop back to 15° C. A lot of
tomorrow may feature sunny spells.
Compared to the day before,
yesterday was a rather boring day,
although that is not to say it was a
day when I did nothing. I must admit I
didn't do much, and I probably only
achieved one important thing. Maybe
that could be broken down to several
smaller, but linked things.
After writing, and my usual
post writing rest, I think I had a
shower, but I didn't do one thing I
wanted to do - wash my hair. I can't
seem to think of the reason I didn't
wash my hair. I did have some ideas
that I might go for another walk in
the park, but that never happened. I
got sidetracked by another project.
That was mostly trying to dry out the
carpet behind the toilet bowel.
The day before I speeded things
up a bit by using a fan heater on it's
lowest setting to blow warm air
towards the back of the toilet bowl.
As I noted yesterday, the drying
carpet was giving of some pretty
stinky odours - with old piss being
the worst stink. I do my best to avoid
my pee going anywhere but into the
toilet bowl, but there are occasional
misses, and over the last 40 years it
al adds up.
With the carpet now almost dry,
but sadly not completely, the stink
has reduced. Yesterday I went back to
just using a desk fan, and that helped
to lessen the stink, but I fear the
only real cure is to replace the
carpet. All carped in my hose was laid
down when I first moved here at the
end of 1983, and in an ideal world I
would replace it all. As I mentioned a
day or two ago, it is going to be a
right bugger to do that in my
cluttered rooms. Back in 1983, very
soon after moving in, there was no
clutter, and it was easy to get a room
completely empty. That made laying
carpet a simple job - even for me who
had never done it before (although I
was tutored by a friend when I laid
the very first carpet in the front
room).
Probably the most important
thing I did yesterday was to get
conclusive evidence that the only
source of the leaked water was from
the gland at the top of the downpipe,
at the bottom of the cistern. That
gland nut is just about siezed, and I
dare not try to undo it before I have
a replacement at hand because it will
probably break (it is plastic). If I
can undo it I will pack out the entire
joint with PTFE tape. That makes most
joints watertight.
In the meantime I have added a
second drip tray to catch the drips
closer to the source, although in
practice that means catching them
dripping off the down pipe as it goes
level to take the water into the
toilet bowl flush channel. Provided I
keep an eye on it, and don't let it
overflow like the other drip tray, it
should keep things dry for now, and
until I can find the bits I need for a
permanent fix.
I guess playing with the
plumbing only took a little bit of the
afternoon. I spent some time snoozing,
and more time reading. I also took
time out for some lunch. I must have
been very distracted yesterday because
I can't remember what I had for lunch.
I am tempted to say cheese on toast,
but I feel sure that was the day
before. I know that I did have a mid
afternoon snack that was mostly ice
cream - a very yummy in the extreme,
lemon and pistachio flavour !
I spent a fair time in the
afternoon quietly reading from my
current book, but also some stuff on
the internet. It did not seem to be
all that long before it was time to
prepare my dinner. That just
meant opening the packet, and putting
a ready meal in the microwave. It was
very slightly tough small cubes of
chicken in a black bean sauce. Apart
from the chicken being more chewy than
expected, it was quite nice, but not
wonderful.
I had intended to have a
dessert of just fresh fruit after my
main course, but I seemed to forget I
had intended to have the fruit. I am
positive I never had any ice cream,
and my "dessert" may have just been a
chunk of cheese and a packet of plain
crisps. I must admit that was a very
strange dessert, but it evidently
satisfied because I didn't eat any
more until breakfast this morning.
I spent the rest of the evening
watching the usual sort of stuff on
TV. I think I decided not to watch TV
until 11pm and gave up to go to bed at
10pm. I was quite looking forward to
sleep, but I stopped to read a page or
two from my book before turning out
the light. I remember almost nothing
after that, and I assume I must have
fallen to sleep very quickly. Apart
from the usual getting up to pee
several times in the night (more than
once, and less than 4 times - at a
guess) I can't think of anything else
notable in the night.
It seems to be getting a very
silly habit, but once again I woke up
earlier than it felt good to get up. I
had a pee, refreshed the weather
forecast so I could take screen shots
late, and then went back to bed and
got at least another hour of sleep.
Maybe even that was not enough because
I am looking forward to finish this
writing so I can go and lay on my bed
to rest, and more than likely have a
snooze too.
When I got up a second time I
went for a second pee, but maybe
because I didn't have my fruit last
night, I did not have a poo. I did
pass a lot of wind, and that seemed to
be enough that I don't feel
constipated despite passing nothing
but gas. When I weighed myself after
that second pee (a quite large one) I
was happy to see that I seemed to have
lost 200gm since yesterday morning. It
may not be much, but 5 days of that
would see a full kilogram last.
When I checked my blood glucose
readings I found the average of all
three meters was 7.77mmol/l. That is
OK, but a bit higher than I would
want. The Contour meter read 8.2mmol/l
- neither good nor bad. The GlucoRX
meter read 7.2mmol/l, and that is
fairly good. The new GlucoFix meter
read a disappointing 7.9mmol/l. When
brand new, that meter seemed to give
the lowest readings, but now it has
crept up to sometimes equal, and
sometime higher than the other two. I
wonder why ?
While I have the spare fan
heater, and long extension lead handy,
I am going to blow some warm air into
the bathroom, and after it has warmed
for maybe half an hour, I am going to
wash my hair, and have a shower. With
clean hair I should only need quick
shower tomorrow before I hope I will
be going for my usually regular
Wednesday lunchtime visit to The Jolly
Farmers pub (last Wednesday I let the
horrible rain keep my indoors in the
dry). Once I have had a shower, and I
am clean, I will be injecting myself
with the first dose of the next
strength up Mounjaro. Maybe, or maybe
not, but the higher strength may bring
on more weight loss attributes because
the lowest dose has not been
successful at all (except for keeping
my blood glucose low for most [but not
all] days).
If it stays dry, and maybe if
it brightens up, I may go out. My only
destination may be Savers where I want
to buy more shower gel, and maybe
other stuff too. I don't feel I will
go much further than that. It is
possible that today may be slightly
boring, but we'll see.
