I kept a close eye on the weather forecasts (both the BBC and Met Office), and how they were revised every hour or two.  At no time did either of them say that it would start to rain by, or even a little before, 11.30am, and that the rain would continue on and off, and sometimes quite heavy, for the next 2 hours or more.  When it did stop the sun came out, and for 20 or so minutes it was rather glorious, but it was not enough the dry the puddles. The puddles had no chance of drying up because it was only an hour or two until there were frequent downfalls of drizzle. Apart from a few very welcome short periods of sunshine, it was a pretty miserable day. The temperature probably did reach 15° C, as forecast, but even before midday I tried not to pay too much attention to the outside world.
the weather today could be
                                anything

Today is another day where the weather is very uncertain. The latest Met Office forecast says that it will light rain from midday, and it will fall on and off for 3 or 4 hours. After sunset the rain will go up a notch or three, and persistent heavy rain is expected. The BBC forecast continues to be slightly insane. It predicts a 33% chance of rain at 1pm, but no rain will fall. At 3pm the chance of rain will fall to 31%, and it will rain. The rain will then continue for the rest of the day, maybe with an occasional pause, but unlike in the world of the Met Office, it won't be heavy rain. Both forecast agree that the afternoon temperature will rise to 16° C, but only the BBC warn of strong, gusty winds between 2 and 6pm.

Both forecasts have different ideas about tomorrow. The BBC says the morning could be very sunny, but the afternoon will be mostly overcast. The BBC's world will be dry all day. The Met Office reckon that there will be only sunny spells, but these should happen through most of the daylight hours. However, from 2pm there could be light showers for the next three hours. Both forecasts reckon the afternoon temperature will only rise to 13° C.

I was getting myself in the right mood to go for a walk yesterday. I was going to head towards Grove Park, but turn off at least half a mile short of there to walk along the the Downham Woodland Walk. From the map it appears to be quite a narrow corridors of trees that comes out along the Bromley Road. It could have been a fairly long walk. I estimate it will be around 5 miles when I eventually do it because I didn't do it yesterday.

It must have been around 11.30am when I came out from having a shower yesterday. I was about to start getting dressed to go out when I noticed it looked very soggy outside. There were puddles in the road, and while the rain looked almost light enough to have appeared to have stopped, there had obviously been some heavy rain while I was showering. Upon seeing the wet road, and gloomy sky, I decided I would not be going out - and that was before I looked more carefully and saw it was still drizzling.

I ended up doing very little yesterday, but I did do one, or two, or one and a half very important things - depending on how you count them. I changed the sheet, pillowcases, and duvet cover on my bed. I then washed the sheet and pillow cases. I'll be doing the duvet cover later, and by itself because washing a double duvet cover by hand requires quite a bit of manhandling. It is better to do it on a warm and dry day so it can hang outside to dry, or start to dry, because it is almost impossible to wring it out enough to stop it dripping.

Apart from spending maybe 30 minutes in the kitchen doing some washing up, and some cooking, I spent much of the day just reading, but not all the spare time in the day. I did one other thing. My web server is currently an old Toshiba laptop, and on the whole it works OK, but every once in a while it seems to lose it's network connection, and I have no idea why. The easiest cure is a restart, but that is annoying for no particular reason - it just is ! I have a little mini PC that ought to be good, but doesn't seem to be.

Yesterday I spent maybe an hour playing with that mini PC. I installed Lighttp, a lightweight web server on it, and although it is now one day out of date, it is still happily serving up these web pages on my internal network. I got halfway through installing PureFTP, used so I can remotely add content to these web pages, but the call of dinner made me abandon it for the rest of the day. (Actually I was going to do more after dinner, but I decided to watch Star Trek instead).

One problem of having a mostly lazy day that I think involved a snooze or two, and also after getting a lot of sleep the the night before, is that when I went to bed last night I found I wasn't sleepy at all. It was after midnight before I got to sleep, and that was after turning out the light around 9pm ! I was awake again around 2am, and as sometimes happens at that time in the morning, it took a long time to get back to sleep again. Once I did get to sleep I seemed to sleep OK for the rest of the night.

This morning I don't feel that good. I seem to ache...well, bits of me ache, and if some bits don't ache they feel stiff and creaky. Maybe I actually got a lousy night - sleeping at stupid angles or something. I know that one cure would probably be to take a decent walk, but I really don't feel like it. I am probably still suffering from the after effects of yesterday's surprise crap weather, and of course it is made worse by today's weather hardly being a bowl of cherries. The very latest revision to the forecast still says it will probably be raining again in as little as 10 minutes - it certainly looks very dull and threatening out there.

That's the bad news. The good news is that I have managed to lose a little bit of weight. My dinner was just fresh vegetable stew. It had cabbage, tomato, bell pepper, and chillies in it plus the last two small home grown potatoes. ( think I have more potatoes to dig up soon). That should have been very good for my blood glucose too, but, and there is always a "but" in these things, I also had some ginger biscuits. There were about 6 biscuits left from a pack I opened a couple of weeks ago.

They were, as expected, getting a bit soft, but as not expected, they were taking on the consistency of cake - slightly chewy cake, and still with a strong ginger taste. I would say they tasted better than when fresh. Unfortunately they still contained a lot of sugar, and I blame them for slightly raising my blood glucose level this morning. It is not too bad, but it spoiled a nice downward trend over the last few days.

It is highly unlikely I will be going out today, and that means no exercise, again, and a bit of a boring day. I have a few more items I can wash to give my arms a bit of a workout, but that is very likely to be the only physical thing I do today. At some point I will probably finish the work to convert the mini PC into a backup, or maybe prime web server. Other than that I will do a lot more reading. If the weather forecast turns out to be too pessimistic, and any of the afternoon looks fair, I may do some work in the garden - maybe just digging up my last crop of potatoes.
