The forecast
has been revised since I took the
screenshot above. Some of the sunny
spells have now changed to "sunshine",
and from 6pm it is now shown as just
dull with a 10% chance of rain. Today
promises to be hot. The afternoon
temperature could rise to, and stay at
28° C for 4 hours. It is after
midnight when things may get lively.
What was previously shown as
thunderstorms may now just be heavy
rain from midnight tonight until 7am.
That will be followed by another 4
hours of light rain, and then it may
be dry, but still very dry. The
chances of that being accurate is
rather slim, but I think we can safely
say that summer will be taking a break
tomorrow, and possibly for a week or
so.
Yesterday was another of
those days when I seemed to be busy
almost from getting up until dinner
time. Like the day before it is
difficult to enumerate how much time I
spent doing this that or the other,
and it is hard to try and describe
each and every little thing I did, but
it all added up to a busy day. I
mentioned my early morning shopping
trip yesterday. The next thing after
that was writing my diary/blog for
yesterday. That always takes an hour
or two depending on how much I have to
say.
The first hard work I did was
to do a load of laundry by hand, and
hang it in the sunshine to dry. After
that I turned to my new laptop which I
was using to shuffle audio files
around. That makes it sound like a
simple job, and individually it was,
but with a lot of files it can get
quite time consuming. It was probably
during this time that I ate a few too
many snacks. Each would have been
selected not to be too bad for me, but
my results this morning suggested I
might have over done it a little.
This is actually a pointless
picture because I doesn't show what I
wanted it to show...well it sort of
does, but with a "before" picture
there is nothing to compare it with.
Let me explain.... Once the washing on
the line had dried, which only took a
couple of hours in the sun, I took
that washing in, and restrung the
washing line. It originally started
from the side of the rear extension,
but that meant it ran down the middle
of the path. That was not convenient.
I got my drill out, and drilled
new holes in a brick for rawplugs and
a couple of long screws, at the side
of the dining room window. The
"new improved" washing line is now
longer, and now runs parallel to the
garden path, instead of over it. This
is what the picture is supposed to
show, but doesn't. It also doesn't
show that it further from the bird
table. To celebrate this bit of work I
did another, slightly smaller, load of
washing, and once again, hung it in
the sunshine to dry.
That was fairly late in the
afternoon, and after an hour or so we
lost the sunshine. Just before
dinnertime it did look like there
could be a shower later, and so I
brought the washing in. The bottom of
the t-shirts were just very slightly
damp, but everything else, including
the underwear further along the line,
was perfectly dry.
With that almost final job of
the day done, I started to prepare my
dinner. It was a Dutch
Emmental
cheese salad. As the wikipedia
page I have linked to says, Emmental
cheese is supposed to be a Swiss (or
bordering French towns) made cheese,
and it is not made in Holland. The
Dutch version should be called
Emmentaler, but I'm sure it doesn't
say that on the packet. It was a
nice-ish cheese taste wise, but it was
thinly pre-sliced. It would have been
better for a salad if it could have
been cut into cubes.
After dinner I spent another
half hour or so finishing what I had
been doing earlier on my new laptop.
Well I say finishing, but it was more
like a convenient point to stop rather
than finishing everything I wanted to
do. That could take ages because it
also includes ripping more of my CDs
into mp3 files for easy playback on my
computer. Having shut the laptop down,
and closed up downstairs, I could
relax.
I watched a bit of TV, but as usual
there was little to grab my attention.
I ended up ready for bed, but just
laying on my bed reading until 9.17pm
when an email popped up. To my great
surprise it referred to the beer order
I had made with a company that I was
beginning to think was a bogus
company. It now seems not !
My order was accepted, and an
email confirmation sent on the 4th
June. Then nothing happened until the
11th June when it was reported the
beer had been shipped, and a Yodel
tracking number issued. Yodel told a
different story. At that point they
had not received my beers. I don't
know how it gets from the company to
Yodel - whether the company delivers
it to Yodel, or if Yodel picks it up.
Anyway, it seems it took until
yesterday, at 7.20pm, when Yodel
finally had it at their Hatfield
depot. From now on things are
happening fast. By 2am this morning it
arrived at the London distribution
depot, and with luck I should hear
that it is out for delivery soon.
Unfortunately Yodel don't seem to send
a predicted one hour time slot for
delivery, at least I don't think they
do. I will have to stay in, and alert
until the beer arrives.
There is nothing to say about
my sleep last night. It was a very
uneventful night apart from waking up
too early, and then going back to
sleep for longer than desired
(although it didn't make any
difference really). The first thing
this morning, just as every morning, I
checked my blood glucose. it was up to
7.9mmol/l. Now that is not
particularly bad, but it is slightly
annoying that I can't think of any
good reason for it to go up like that.
The other minor annoyance is
that I didn't seem to lose any weight
yesterday, and I could have put some
on. This is the trouble when using a
modern set of bathroom scales that
give a weight correct to just 100
grammes. That is such a fiddling
little amount that it is no surprise
it can go up or down a few hundred gms
from day to day - drinking half a pint
of water registers on my scales. All I
hope is that the long term trend is
down. I really ought to not weigh
myself again for a week to see if
there is a long term loss or gain.
Today was to be the day, like
the last few Wednesdays, when I would
be meeting Angela for a drink at
lunchtime. It was also the day when
she was going to give me her home mad,
authentic, Greek salad. It could have
been really irritating if this was
still going ahead while I need to stay
in and wait for the man from Yodel,
but fortunately Angela sent me a text
yesterday to say she wouldn't be at
work today. I suggested that maybe we
could try again on Friday, but she
hasn't responded to that.
In the meantime, I have had
another email, and this time it was
direct from Yodel. The delivery driver
has just started his rounds. I am drop
number 46 out of a total of 103 today.
Assuming the driver does an 8 hour
shift, I estimate my beer could be
here around 2am, but it all depends on
traffic etc. It also depends on how
many addresses the driver has to call
at. I don't know for sure, but if a
delivery is of two boxes it is counted
as two drops even if they are to the
same address.
I have already started one
thing to keep me amused this morning.
I am washing a duvet cover.
Fortunately it is one of the light
weight duvet covers, but it is still
and "interesting" procedure to wash it
by hand. If I get it on the line
quickly enough I may be able to wash
the sheet and pillowcases in time for
them to dry before we lose the best of
the sunshine. On the other hand I
might go out to stretch my legs if the
beer arrives earlier than expected.
