Yesterday was generally bright, but it wasn't always sunny. The forecast temperature was 19° C, and I had hopes it may have gone a bit higher, and I think it did, but it still often felt closer to "mild" than "warm". Maybe the breeze was enough to take the edge off the temperature, although it wasn't a particularly breezy day.
warm and sunny
For once both the BBC and Met Office forecasts agree with one another, and continue to do so in later revisions. The only small change to the screenshot above is that the latest revision shows that 11am my feature a few passing clouds that may dim the sun. Other than that we can expect strong sunshine all day, and the temperature should peak at 23° C, and maybe even 24° C might be possible. There is a small divergence of views for tomorrow. The Met Office says strong sunshine until 5pm when it will start to get cloudy. The BBC says most of the sunshine will be in the form of sunny spells, but they should continue until sunset. Both agree on an afternoon temperature of 25° C. It's worth noting that Thursday could see a sizzling 31° C, and Friday may feature rain !

Yesterday was another pleasant day, but also a day when I only did two things of note. The first was to go to Poundland where I had two particular things on my shopping list. One was to buy more of their cheap, but effective trainer socks. They are cheap enough to be considered to be close to disposable, and I tend to keep a pair on each pair of shoes/boots/trainers that I use. Sadly they didn't seem to have any, and maybe I will have to revise my ideas about them being disposable.

I think the other thing on my shopping list was yet more bird feed. It wasn't really high priority, but while I was there I bought two bags of mealworms, and a bag of bird quality peanuts. Actually, most of those peanuts, if given a rinse, look like they would be perfectly OK for human consumption. It is a bit like how you could once buy broken biscuits (maybe you still can). They are perfectly edible, but "cosmetically" imperfect.

It is not a long walk to Poundland, but slightly longer than to Aldi, and probably Tesco. It did feel OK walking there and back, and the weather seemed to suit walking. I would have considered going for an afternoon walk, but Jodie had confirmed she would be over in the afternoon for out first beer tasting session in over a week. We had a mix of good and bad beers. One beer I had, but Jodie didn't, because she had tried it before, was a raspberry beer from Poland. It did taste nice-ish, but smelled better. Unfortunately it was basically lager which had raspberry syrup add to it.

That meant it's sugar content was high for a beer, but probably not as high as one beer we had. It was a very dark, very sweet, very strong, and very thick porter brewed by the Var Var brewery in Ukraine. It was our final beer, and it would have been so easy to drink a whole bottle (or two) but as usual we spilt one bottle two ways so we could both taste it. It was yet another thing that went towards a bad blood glucose reading this morning.

Another thing I bought from Poundland was a 6 pack of "Frisps" - square crisps that may be baked rather than fried. Their sugar content, per 25gm bag is not high, but I ate three packets of them as part of my pre-drinking lunch. My dinner was worse. It was bacon and lettuce, which is known to be safe, but I added the rest of the boiled potatoes I had cooked the day before. It was a very nice dinner, but it did seem very filling - maybe only because it was on top of booze.

Apart from eating dinner, not a lot happened after Jodie left. I watched a bit of TV, but I was keen to get to bed before it got too late. My keenness was a lot to do with the fact I was feeling quite tipsy ! I tried reading for a bit, but I couldn't keep my eyes focussed on the print. I am not sure what time it was, but I do recall it seemed like full daylight outside as I turned over, and fell asleep in seconds.

The next thing I knew was that it was gone 1am, and my hangover was building up a treat ! Also the feeling of bloat seemed worse. I did wonder if I might end up vomiting, but thankfully that never happened. It did cause almost an hour of insomnia because I just could not get comfortable. I probably got back to sleep from pure exhaustion. It was a night where I seemed to have loads of vivid dreams.

I can't recall any timelines from those dreams, and maybe the odd snatch of dreams I can recall was all they were. One dream was set at work, but an unfamiliar workplace. I don't think it was the company I worked for, but another on the industrial estate that had worked out away to get more power from diesel fuel, and had bought an old bus to test it on. It was amazing to watch this bus speed away faster than various sports cars and the like, although I suspect the ride quality may have been rather alarming !

Another dream involved a bus. It seemed like it could have been a bus laid on for all the employees of whatever company I worked for in that dream. I have no idea where the bus started from, but it passed through Catford on the way to Forest Hill. I knew, or was told, that it was possible to get the driver to let you out anywhere if it was safe to do so. I asked to be let off the bus in Catford, but we had gone through before it was safe to stop. I had to walk back, but it wasn't far.

The trouble was that it was like I had got off in a mirror universe or something. Some places seemed to be on the wrong side of the road, and some were not in the correct order. I found myself walking in the wrong direction at first, but I sorted that out. I passed The Catford Bridge Tavern, but I was just about to turn off there when I noticed the road had a different name. Fortunately I could see the old name under the paint of the new name, and I started walking the last bit towards home. Other roads had had their names changed too.

I can't be sure if it was in the dream, or in the first minutes after waking up, but I was thinking that this must be like what senile dementia must be like. That was most worrying. The only other snatch of dream I remember was a few seconds set in the old TV repair workshop. For some unknown reason everyone who worked for the company, from those who did deliveries, the mobile engineers, and those who worked in the local shops, were all in the workshop at once. It was like a rush hour train in there, and of course no work could be done.

I felt like I had been cheated out of a few hours sleep when I finally got up this morning, and that was even after getting an extra hour after I had first woken up. I guess that is what hangovers do for you ! Fortunately that hangover is all gone apart from a slightly woolly feeling. What won't go away in a hurry is my atrociously high blood glucose reading. The only good thing is that I am pretty sure why I came to get a reading of 9.9mmol/l. At least it didn't cross the red line at 10.0mmol/l, but only by the skin of my teeth.

I think today I have to do one of my fasts to correct that high glucose content in my blood. That is a shame because I do feel hungry this morning. The only way I am going to fight this hunger is to go out. I can't decide whether to go for a long walk, or to add a few more stations to my quest to visit all the extremes that my Freedom Pass will take me to. It would be nice walking weather, and I would probably be fine once I started, but I don't feel too keen on it now. Oh well, I'll see how I feel once I am washed and dressed.
