Today could be even
warmer than yesterday with the forecast saying
a high of 28° C, but it seems it may get
cloudy towards the end of the morning. That
suggests it could be a very humid and sticky
this afternoon. The sun may not show until
midday tomorrow, but it will be full strength
from 2pm until the end of the end, and that
should drive the temperature up to a sizzling
31° C !
Yesterday was most notable for an
extended stomach upset. After I had finished
writing I had a lazy hour before I needed to
get shaved, shampooed, and showered ready to
go out to meet Angela in the the pub. I had
been to the toilet twice soon after I got up,
and everything seemed normal. Maybe three
hours later I had to go again, and again !
This story resumes later in the day....
It is fortunate that after my final
visit to the toilet I felt perfectly
comfortable, and a bit later I could enjoy a
quiet stroll through the sunny park. I say a
quiet stroll, but I guess that is poetic
licence. When I first started walking I felt
stiff and creaky, but after 5 or 10 minutes I
got into my stride, and couldn't seem to slow
down. It is lucky I stopped now and then to
take a few pictures or I could have got to the
pub early.
This picture shows how lovely it was in
the park. The sky was blue, and the grass was
nice and green. Later on it may turn brown if
we don't get some rain.
The red rose bush in the park had a
good amount of roses on it, but it is partly
surrounded by other bushes, and so they are
not that prominent.
The curious thing is that having walked
quite quickly through the park, and feeling
good about it, I suddenly ran out of wind
while walking through the grounds of St Mary's
church just a hundred yards from the pub. It
barely slowed my down, but suddenly it felt
almost like hard work. It was nice to get in
the pub to sit down. I am not sure what time I
arrived. I think it was early, but Angela
arrived before the drinks had finished being
poured.
Angela said she felt very tired
yesterday. She didn't know why apart from
getting up earlier than usual on these light
summer mornings. It meant that our meeting
didn't have the sparkle or closeness that many
have. With the temperature being rather higher
than we are currently used to, there was less
physical closeness. For all that I still
greatly enjoyed our meeting, and along with
the very nice weather, it put me in a good
frame of mind.
That good frame of mind was useful for
moderating my food intake, although there were
other reasons for that. On the other hand,
maybe my food intake was not moderated at all
for a while. After only having a single bowl
of instant noodles for breakfast, I was
feeling quite peckish after a stroll in the
park, and drinking two pints of Guinness. Soon
after I got home I initially decided I would
have a can of Estonian (or some east European
country) beans with smoked sausages.
These are the cans of big beans with
very minimal English writing on them. I hadn't
meant to buy the version with smoked bacon in
rather than sausage. The three small slices of
sausage they use is not nearly as nice at the
version with smoked bacon. Maybe it was with
this in mind that I decided I would also have
a couple of spicy Turkish sausages. It was a
pretty unhealthy lunch, but very tasty, and
most importantly it was very low in sugar.
After eating I lay on my bed reading,
and after 15 minutes of reading I had a
snooze. It was probably gone 4pm, and maybe
near 5pm that it felt like I needed the toilet
again. I don't know where it all came from,
considering how much I had passed in the
morning, but three very productive sessions,
with little more than 5 minutes between them,
left me feeling very empty. I felt less keen
about my dinner after that, and when
dinnertime came around, at approx 7pm, I
couldn't be bothered to prepare any lettuce to
go with the well grilled bacon I was planning
to eat. I just ate the bacon.
After a bit of TV I was in bed, or more
accurately, on my bed - it was too hot for
duvets, and hot enough to get my desk fan out
of the spare room, and blowing across me as I
lay on my bed. I read for a while, and then
went to sleep. It was another night when I
seemed to sleep really well. I have dreamy
memories of getting up for a pee twice, and at
the same time as the first, turning off the
fan. I have a fading memory of thinking that I
ought to remember a dream because it was
interesting, but I can barely remember that
memory about the memory, and nothing seems to
remain of the dream now.
I think I was woken by the bin men
nearby at about 5am, but I turned over and
went back to sleep. I think it was probably
after I had gone back to sleep that they
emptied my brown, garden waste bin (that I had
dragged through the house yesterday afternoon
to put out front). At about 6.30am I got up.
Oddly enough I didn't need the toilet (except
for a wee) this morning. I must be truly empty
except for last night's dinner (and probably
lunch too).
My unwanted purging, and not eating
anything with any significant sugar in it
yesterday, means that this morning my blood
glucose was down to a rather magnificent
6.3mmol/l. I haven't had such a good reading
as that for ages, and ages. Now I need to try
not to spoil it. I did consider that this
morning would be
the morning when I
had cake for breakfast. I have a well sealed
Madeira cake in the cupboard waiting for such
an occasion, but not this morning. I had
"southern fried" flavour fish burger patties
for breakfast. They are usually very safe -
particularly when eating in the morning.
Being careful about what I eat now
could be very beneficial for later today after
a beer tasting session with Jodie. I always
end up drunk, and usually feel ravenous. I
will have to take particular care when I do
one of two other things planned for today -
shopping in Aldi. I will have to be very
selective about what I buy. As much as I would
love it in this weather, I think ice cream is
off the menu. The other thing today will be to
get some washing done, and hanging on the line
to dry - possibly two lots of it.
