I must admit that I
don't even see signs of any rain on today's
forecast, and yet there is a yellow warning
for thunderstorms. There are similar warnings
for tomorrow and the day after. At least the
headline icon for tomorrow shows a bolt of
lightning. The latest revision to the forecast
now shows light rain from 5pm to 8pm. Today is
probably going to be one of those days where
the weather changes a lot during the day. That
is further indicated by the fact that this
morning started quite dull, and only now are
there signs the sun might possibly push it's
way through the clouds. It is still going to
be a warm day with 27° C expected this
afternoon. The headline icon for tomorrow may
show a lightning bolt, but only a 40% chance
of light rain is shown for a handful of random
hours in the afternoon. With an afternoon
temperature of 24° C it might feel almost cool
tomorrow.
Yesterday was another strange day.
Again it felt like everything was in slow
motion, but it still proved to be productive
in several ways. I thought I should take
advantage of the last hot and sunny day to do
a bit more laundry. Yesterday it was only 4
items - two white t-shirts, a pair of shorts,
and a pair of underpants.
One thing I left almost to the last
minute was the backlog of washing up, which
included the glasses we would be drinking our
beers from only a bit later in the afternoon.
In can't really say I wasted a lot of the day
just reading because reading is important too.
It is a cerebral adventure, although real
adventures, which seem to be limited to
exploring the far outposts of the rail network
accessible on my Freedom pass, are more
exciting.
The afternoon beer tasting session with
Jodie was it's usual mix of delight and
boredom. She really loves her phone, and
checking Instagram, Pokemon, and all the other
strange stuff she does - including the
untappd
website where she logs all her beers. The
biggest annoyance is that it all distracts her
from drinking. The problem there is that we
share a bottle/can between us so we can both
taste it, but what is generally around just a
quarter of a pint is gone in a couple of
mouthfuls, and then I sit there bored and
thirsty.
Jodie left to get the 6.54pm train, and
once she had left I prepared my dinner. It was
an unusual salad - a seafood salad. While in
Aldi the previous day I noticed, and bought, a
bag of frozen mixed seafood. On the bag it
said "defrost and serve". I let it defrost in
the fridge overnight, and I drained it before
tipping the whole bag on a big bed of lettuce
leaves. I then seasoned it all with some
mayonnaise, white and red pepper, and some
salt. It was quite pleasant, but not exciting
enough to want to repeat it too
often.....maybe next year !
There was one problem with that salad,
and that was that it didn't seem very filling.
Only something like an hour passed before I
had some cheese on salad on Marmite rice cakes
as a sort of snack. I only felt the need for
those rice cakes because I was bored. There
was absolutely nothing on TV, and I had to
resort to some of the funny, often fake news,
websites for a bit of entertainment. The
trouble is that only a bout a third of those
"funny" web pages are actually funny.
I completely lost track of time in the
evening because there were few non clock based
clues as to how time was passing, and I wasn't
clock watching. I seem to think I was on my
bed, with teeth brushed, and ready for sleep
before sunset - which was 8.25pm last night. I
read for some time, but it is entirely
possible I was asleep before 9pm. Provided the
fan is on I seem to be sleeping fairly well
when my bedroom is still a sweaty 30° C (and
still 28° C this morning).
I have vague recollections of waking up
quite a few times in the night, and only once
or twice was it for a pee. On one occasion,
and I guess it was possibly before midnight, I
was woken up by the sound of a motorbike. The
rider was possibly dropping off a passenger
nearby. The thing that woke me, or maybe just
kept me awake for a short while, was the sound
of it. I had my bedroom window open, and so it
was bound to be a bit loud, but it was the
type of sound. I only know superficial things
about motorbikes, but enough to believe that
the motorbike I heard may have been a vintage
one with a single long stroke cylinder. It had
a very slow, throaty, and almost lazy growl.
I woke up a few minutes before 6am, and
tried to sleep more. It has worked quite a few
times recently, but not this morning. After
trying several possible sleeping positions it
became obvious that it was time to get up.
Since then I've checked the weather, viewed
several internet web sites, and drunk two
pints of chilled water. Maybe if I had waited
an extra half hour for that water to percolate
through me I might have got a lower blood
glucose reading, but 8.7mmol/l is acceptable.
Now comes the problem of what I am
going to do today. In theory I should probably
be going out - maybe a long walk, or maybe
even another expedition to the limits of my
Freedom Pass. The problem with that is that I
am sort of constipated today. As far as I can
recall I didn't go yesterday, nor the day
before (it is lucky, or is maybe the problem,
that on both days I didn't eat much). This
morning I have been, but there must be a lot
more to come. Maybe this morning could be a
repeat of last Friday when I pretty much
emptied my whole digestive tract over a period
of 5 or so hours, and was very comfortable to
go out from midday. I think it is a case of
wait and see.
