Yesterday was yet another date when much rain was promised, but rather less rain fell. The original forecast for the day showed mist for 7am followed by three hours of rain. The first two hours were shown as thundery rain. For most of that time there were occasional sunny spells, and not a drop fell. There was a moderately heave fall of rain between about 1.30pm and perhaps 2.30pm. That wasn't in the forecast ! More thundery showers were forecast for 4 to 7pm. I was not aware that there was even any drizzle during those hours. The maximum temperature was initially a fairly fresh feeling 22° C, but after the rain it did feel predictably muggy.
  probably dry, but generally dull
As usual, today's forecast has been revised in the last couple of hours since the screenshot above was taken. It now shows just a 30% chance of light rain for 10 and 11am. In compensation it has added more sunshine or sunny spells between 4pm and 8pm. The rest of the day will be dull but dry - possibly ! It will feel warmer today with 25° C expected in the afternoon. Most of tomorrow is shown as being sunny, but the temperature may be a couple of degrees cooler than today at just 23° C. It is "interesting" that the BBC website shows a very different picture for today. It shows no rain and no sunshine, but the same 25° C. It basically agrees with the Met Office about tomorrow.

Yesterday was dominated by two things. The first was my latest beer delivery. The estimated delivery time was between 11:43 and 13:43. If the deliver was in the middle of those two times, 12:43, I would still have time to get to the pub to meet Angela for a drink.

Soon after 11am the real time tracking stopped, and the website showed the driver had only dropped off 11 parcels. Mine was shown as parcel 31. It seemed unlikely it would ever get here in time. I did wonder if the problem was something like the delievery van had broken down. At about 12:30 I sent Angela a message to say I wasn't going to make it. Mere seconds after sending that message I got a message from Kevin asking if I would be in the pub. I had to reply no, but suggested I probably would be available a little later.

It was roughly 12:43 when a van pulled up outside, followed a minute later by a ring at the doorbell. It was my box of beers arriving. It took the box in, and then immediately sent text messages to Angela and Kevin to say I would be at the pub, but probably 10 minutes late. I quickly, or at least as quickly as I could, pulled my boots on after changing my shorts to outdoor shorts that had my keys and wallet already in them. by the time I was ready to leave, which was little more than 5 minutes later, I was feeling rather hot and sticky.

I couldn't keep up the pace I started at, but I think I made the pub in about 12 minutes. That must be a record. I arrived there dropping with sweat, but I had a face flannel in one of the bigger pockets of my shorts, and so was at least able to dry my face. When I got to the pub Kevin was halfway ordering a round, and added Angela's drink once I confirmed she was on her way. She arrived maybe 5 minutes after me.

As usual when Kevin was there, there was lots of talk about inconsequential things, and old memories re-visited. Some of it was a bit boring for me, by Angela seemed to be paying attention to it all (although I think she has trained herself to do that with men). One such thing that was of some interest was Kevin mentioning what is said on a sort of plaque above the (old) main entrance of Lewisham Hospital.

It is all a little less clear since shrinking the picture to fit on this page, but then again it is not very clear after an appalling recent paint job. It looks like it is fresh paint over several older coats. The worst thing is that the bottom word should say Invicta, but the T has not been crossed. Possibly it was a non-English speaking painter who did the job. Along the top it says "Lewisham Union", and across the bottom 1883. This relates to the original use of this entrance, and the old buildings either side of it. It was originally a  Workhouse, and only because a hospital at the start of WW1. This page https://www.workhouses.org.uk/Lewisham/ shows some interesting information about it.

Angela stayed a little after 2pm because she had left work late, but from about 2:10pm Kevin and I were left to finish our drinks. Despite Kevin's weak insistence that he would only have one more half, we continued drinking until about 4pm. By that time the forecast rain had come and gone without any hint of thunder. Kevin had a coat, but I was just wearing a t-shirt. After Kevin caught a bus to Lewisham, where had always intended to go to get some sort of shopping, I walked home in the dry - except for some steamy heat.

Yesterday (I think) I mentioned that I had worn a pair of boots originally bought from Aldi some years ago for my brief shopping trip the day before. I remarked that they seemed more comfortable than I remembered. I wore them yesterday for my fast walk through the park, and then home again. One small change was to wear some thin, but longer socks. They were still comfortable for my feet, but particularly coming home, my ankles were starting to ache. Those boots come up above the ankle to give some support, but they seem to still be very stiff, and the stress of bending the boot with my ankle was making them ache. I don't think I would like those boots for long walks, although maybe they need wearing in.

After only having a bowl of instant noodles for breakfast I was feeling a bit peckish after drinking possibly 4 pints of Guinness (and a double Jamesons). It was still 3 hours until dinner time, and so I ate the last two lentil based salad pots from the same range I pictured yesterday. Before that I started to unpack my box of beers. I feel sure that Jodie is going to say that she has already had at least half of them, but there may be a few to surprise her when she next comes over - which will probably be on Sunday, and not today as she usually would.

I've had some wildlife problems recently. One was a result of leaving my bedroom window open for well over a week. It was a little after eating my salad pots, and had laid down on my bed to read and snooze, when I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. It was a huge spider casually climbing up one of my curtains. It was big enough that it's legs could have reached to the edge of a digestive biscuit while sitting in the middle. I'm afraid it is no longer alive.

My dinner was a very simple two beef burger patties on lettuce with an over generous amount of mayonnaise. It was a nice dinner, and in theory was relatively safe for me. I mostly wasted a bit of time watching some stuff on TV, but I didn't stay up to watch QI because for some loony reason it was a Xmas edition. I went to bed at 9pm, and I don't think I read for all that long before turning out the light to go to sleep.

Last night was notable for two things. It was cool enough, but only just, to close my bedroom window. By this morning it had cooled down enough outside that it would have felt really chilly with the window open. My bedroom did not cool down that much, but I did pull the empty duvet cover over me for my lest bit of sleep. One thing I did in the morning was to change the bottom sheet and pillow cases plus the duvet cover. There was nothing in the duvet cover, but the new one is of thicker, more substantial cotton.

I had a particular interest this morning that preceded anything else I did. it was to go down to the dining room to check two mouse traps. Yesterday morning I noticed that the clear plastic, ziplock bag that I had a few ginger biscuits in (left over from Petts Wood Calling) had been nibbled, and what must have been a mouse had actually tried to carry a complete ginger biscuit across the top of the flat PC on the dining room table. It only managed to carry/drag it a few inches, but it was that loose biscuit that drew my attention to what had happened.

Before I went to bed last night I put down to mouse traps baited with ginger biscuit. Ideally  would have found a deceased mouse this morning, but the little bastard had managed to get the small bit of biscuit off both traps without triggering them. Today I need to somehow wedge the biscuit on the trigger plate so the mouse has to work harder to get the biscuit, and hopefully triggers the trap.

I was a bit hot and my forehead was a bit damp with sweat when I went to bed last night, but at no time during the night did I feel hot enough to want to turn the fan on. I assumed I didn't sweat that much last night, and didn't try and drink even a full pint of water before checking my blood glucose. It was annoyingly high at 9.8mmol/l. I thought my eating should have been good enough for a low reading (and Guinness generally doesn't add any sugar to my diet). Either I was more dehydrated than I thought, or I am back to thinking that my insulin resistance is getting beyond control without going down the route of injecting insulin.

Today I am waiting for another beer delivery. This one will be a lot smaller. Beautiful Beers, who I bought the big box from, contacted me to say they made a mistake and sent one wrong beer, and would be sending the correct beer for me. It is predicted to arrived between 11am and 1pm. That probably means a midday arrival. That will be handy because I will have the afternoon to possibly go out. The trains are on strike today so it means any outing will be a walk. Maybe I might take a quick stroll in the park.
