The forecast
suggests today will be very similar to
yesterday, but with a few added sunny spells.
Midday, 1pm and 3pm are now shown as featuring
sunny spells in the latest revision. Also,
most of the afternoon is now shown to reach 9°
C. Tomorrow morning is shown as starting at a
chilly 5° C, but it might reach 8° C by mid
afternoon. Like today, it should stay dry, but
apart from a couple of sunny spells it will be
a bright grey.
Yesterday morning started off
sort of quiet and lazy. Apart from having a
shower I had little need to do anything else
in preparation to an afternoon's beer tasting
session with Jodie. Of course I could have
done stuff like hoover the dining room,
although in an ideal world it would be a job
better done today - after Jodie had dropped
crisps on the carpet, and not before !
It was just before 2pm that Jodie sent
me a message. She asked if it would be OK to
get here later than usual, and then stay a bit
later. She suggested getting here a bit after
4pm. I agreed. It was all to do with the
timing of the football match. Jodie is not
interested in football, but Alan, her
boyfriend is. I think he wasn't going out
until the football started at 7pm, and Jodie
didn't fancy waiting ages for him, by herself
in the pub.
Some delays on the trains meant that
Jodie didn't actually arrive until around
4.20pm. During my long wait in the afternoon I
did a lot of yawning, and tied to have a
snooze once or twice. After the fever of
preparing all the best photos from Sunday's
birthday party/gig, it was pleasing to be able
to relax, but evidently not enough to snooze.
Apart from being shifted in time by
starting and ending roughly an hour later, and
also on a Tuesday instead of a Sunday,
yesterday's beer tasting session was pretty
normal. We got through maybe 6 cans of beer -
half each. In between drinking Jodie was
typically engrossed in her phone, and I was
bored. I wanted to tell her about what I great
time on Sunday, but of course there was not
really anything there she could relate to.
After Jodie left to get her bus I went
to get my dinner. I had not pre-prepared a
suitably healthy meal, and this was a
deliberate act. I knew it would be a disaster,
but I had two ready meals I had bought from
Aldi. One was an Indian style curry, and the
other was a Chinese style curry. The latter
was the worst of the two for two reasons. It
had the highest sugar content, and the least
flavour. Apart from a few unidentified lumps,
it was like thick gravy, with a hint of curry
powder alongside some very bland, allegedly
egg fried rice.
The Indian style curry was a bit more
flavourful, but both were terrible - such are
the rewards of Brexit. I am sure Brexit the
ready meals from Aldi were much nicer, but the
increased cost of ingredients means they are
just bulked up with cheap stuff like gravy
powder. I ended up only using half the rice
from each dish, and that made for quite a
light dinner. I then did something even more
stupid and had a couple of wholemeal rolls as
a sort of pudding.
I think I read in bed for just over
half an hour last night. As far as I can
recall, I fell asleep fairly quickly after I
turned out the light. Also, as far as I can
recall, I slept really well last night. Once
again I didn't seem to get up to pee as often
as usual. It goes against the face of the
usual advice, but it does seem I pee less as
night when my blood glucose is very high. It
almost give a false impression of what my
health is really like.
After the curries, and the two rolls,
later in the evening than I usually have
dinner, I knew that I would get a high blood
glucose reading. I was still shocked when it
came up as 11.3mmol/l. That is well past the
red line, and into the danger zone. In an
ideal world I would fast until dinner time,
but it is cold, and I will be going to the pub
at lunchtime, and I felt hungry this morning.
I have started the day with one of the smaller
packets of instant noodles.
I am debating whether to eat more
before going to the pub. If I hear from Angela
to say she is going to the pub (she said she
would let me know when I asked about it on
Sunday) I will probably walk all the way to
the pub, and walking is less pleasant for me
after eating. On the other hand I might cut
the walking down to (at a rough estimate)
2/3rds of the distance by getting a train.
I might get the train anyway,
although the main reason for it would be
because I wanted to get a copy of the Metro
from the station so I have the crosswords to
amuse me if I am drinking alone. At the moment
there is no word from Angela, and I'll have to
reveal whether I see her or not when I write
tomorrow. I hope I do because there is so much
to say about Sunday - I expect we both have
our anecdotes, and a desire to relive it again
if only by the spoke word.
