The latest revision
hasn't change the weather forecast. It seems
it is going to be a dull, but dry day. The
temperature should peak at 13° C, and that is
about all there is to say
except that
there is a 10% chance of rain at almost any
time today even if no rain is shown on the
chart. The clouds should be a bit lighter
tomorrow, and there is a slim chance of some
sunny spells in the morning, but tomorrow will
probably be a colder day with a top
temperature of just 10° C.
Apart from seeing Angela, which was
very good, almost everything else about
yesterday was terrible, and all because of the
weather, or specifically a weather forecast
that was a tissue of lies ! I will admit it
did seem to lighten up a bit as I had my
shave, shampoo, and shower prior to going out
to walk through the park. I was suckered in by
the weather forecast enough that I made sure I
took my sunglasses.
There was one slightly, but only very
slightly, brighter sunny spells before this
one. It would be easier to see my shadow if I
had videoed it. By moving my arms or
something, it would draw the attention to an
exceedingly faint shadow being cast by half a
ray of sunshine wheedling it's way through a
paper thin crack in the clouds.
As usual around these parts, or in the
northern hemisphere, the sun was trying to get
through clouds that had slightly more texture
than this dirty grey mass of clouds to the
north. Te wind seemed to be coming from the
west at ground level, but I suspect at the
level of the clouds it was coming from the
north, pushing this murky mass towards us.
It's effect would be felt when we left the
pub.
I had allowed enough time to dawdle in
the park, perhaps taking photos of squirrels,
or some such, but the wind made it feel much
colder than the 13° C, and it was just
starting to spit with rain. I decided not to
hang around, and go straight to the pub...or
almost straight. It felt just about OK to walk
as far as St Mary's Church rather than cut
through the hospital. I arrived about 15
minutes early at the pub.
Despite the last thing I did, the last
time I was in the pub, was to offer, and get a
light hug from Ayse (Incorrectly spelled
"Asia" previously), on Xmas eve, I had a warm
welcome in the pub. The pub was quiet enough
for a bit of chat before Angela arrived. It
was so nice to see Angela after not seeing her
for a fortnight, but somehow I didn't feel the
closeness I usually feel. We had a nice chat,
and I even heard a few "family secrets", but
somehow it didn't feel as intimate it usually
is.
I must interrupt this narrative at
this point to say it is now 10am as I write
these words, and we have just had a more
intense sunny spells than anything
yesterday. At the moment most of sky is
cloudy, but there are a few small blue
patches to be seen, and the sun has found
one of them.
All too soon our hour was up, and I
walked Angela back to work. As we got to the
door of the pub I remarked that it seemed so
dull that it might start to rain. In fact it
was spitting with rain as we went outside. We
had hardly walked 30 feet before the amount of
rain increased. I was happy that I was wearing
a coat I could do up. Prior to going out, and
naively believing the weather forecast I had
contemplated wearing my sleeveless denim
jacket so I could get some sun on my arms.
I was feeling pretty soggy by the time
we got to Angela's office, and so our goodbye
hug was a a rather light affair. As I walked
on home the rain seemed to get heavier, and by
the time I was home my jeans were feeling
distinctly damp. I was not happy ! This was
the trigger for some unusual eating yesterday.
It started with a 25gm packet of crisps. That
was followed by a lot of cheese on toast. I
had just three slices of Polish sourdough
bread, but also two end crusts.
Both those end crusts were quite thick,
and easy to slice in two. Although the bread
had tapered down towards the end of the loaf,
I ended up with 7 slices of toast, although
those end pieces were no bigger than credit
card sized (but obviously a lot thicker). I
used the last of the sliced smoked cheddar,
and the last of the sliced cheddar with
chillies, and for the last couple of slices of
toast I used just plain ready sliced cheddar.
It was all rather delicious.
If I hadn't taken a pack of flavoued
sliced chicken out of the fridge, and pealed
the covering film back to help it warm up a
bit, I would have eaten just the cheese on
toast, but that flavoured chicken was just
there, beckoning to be eaten, and I did just
that, although I sprinkled on a lot of hot
chilli sauce to give it extra flavour.
Compared to the cheese on toast, I didn't
enjoy that chicken at all.
As well as the miserable weather, I was
also feeling very slightly drunk - just on two
pints of Guinness ! After eating I laid down,
read a page or two of a book, and then had a
long snooze. I may have been asleep for a full
hour, perhaps a bit more, or perhaps a bit
less. Who knows ? I guess I had a hangover
when I woke up, and I was feeling quite edgy -
whatever that means !
It was at that point I probably should
have have started cooking my dinner. Actually
I should have prepared, and part cooked it
before I went out. In the end, when it came
time for dinner I did feel starving, but I
decided to have a very light, but maybe a bit
sweet, dinner of two large oranges, and two
25gm packets of crisps. It was sort of nice,
and seemed not exactly filling, but enough.
The TV schedules on Dave have changed
to show one early evening episode of QI with
another episode later in the evening, and that
followed by an episode of Have I Got News For
You. I thought that I would be getting another
very late night until I saw that Johnny Vegas
was a guest on the late QI. I can't stand the
bloke, and went to bed early. I probably read
in bed until about 9pm...or was it 10pm ??
It stayed mild last night, and I took
the chance of turning off the heater some time
before I went to bed. I felt comfortable
reading in bed while partly under the duvet,
but once I tried to sleep, and pulled the
duvet over my body, I soon felt far too hot. I
felt asleep partly covered, but woke up an
hour or two later, feeling frozen. At that
point I put the heater on low, and tried for
sleep again. I was still partly uncovered, and
once again woke up feeling really cold despite
the heater being on low.
After a while I managed to get to sleep
again, but this time making sure my arms and
legs were under the duvet. That seemed to feel
so uncomfortable that after waking up at about
4am I turned the heater on full. It took a bit
of time but I finally ended up sleeping very
well - so well that it was just after 8am
when I woke up. I haven't slept so late
for ages...at least I don't think I have. It
was almost a shock to get up to full daylight
(which means it was after 8.05am this
morning).
I didn't know what to predict when it
came to checking my blood glucose. I was
probably expecting it to be a fair bit higher
than a rather reasonable 8.4mmol/l, or very
slightly below my typical average. I also
weighed myself, and was quite astonished to
see I had actually lost a useful amount of
weight, and that was after only doing quite a
small poo this morning. I am beginning to
think that cheese on toast is nowhere near as
bad for me than I might have previously
thought.
Today's plans are quite simple. Once I
have had a quick shower I want to go an buy
another loaf of that Polish sourdough bread,
and I expect I'll buy other stuff in the
little supermarket on Catford Bridge. In the
early afternoon I shall take a walk to
the pharmacy where I hope they will have my
repeat prescription ready to take away. Later
in the afternoon Jodie should come over for
some beer tasting. Hopefully Michael join us
too.
