My
Diary/Blog For the Month of January 2023 |
Tuesday 31st January

GMT
Yesterday was bright and sunny, but a chilly wind made it feel cold even when the temperature reached 9° C. The early forecast for today
(as above) showed that the afternoon would feature
lots of sunny spells. Rather sadly the latest revision
only shows sunny spells for midday, 3pm and 4pm. The
only recompense is that we now might have three hours
at 11° C. Today should be dry, or mostly dry, but 11am
is now shown as having dark cloud with a 10% chance of
rain. It is possible that tomorrow may feature a lot
of sunny spells, and an afternoon temperature of 10°
C.
There were a lot of positives yesterday, but almost inevitably there were some negatives. Some were as simple as nice sunny weather spoiled by a chilly breeze. The undeniably good were some important achievements. Those achievements, along with a lot of pictures, are all described, alongside some of the negatives, in my complete archive page covering yesterday, last night, and this morning. |

Yesterday was not only a gloomy day, but it rained ! The rain was light, and in the form of passing showers. For once the 10% chance of rain in the forecast did meant real rain ! The afternoon temperature reached 8° C, but while not feeling icy cold, it was still uncomfortably cold. There is a big grey cloud
where the sun could be shining as I write this, but a
lot of the sky is fairly clear, and so I can believe
we will get some sunny spells sooner or later. The
latest revision to the forecast has extended the full
sunshine shown in the screenshot above to last from
midday to 3pm. This morning has started mild by
comparison to recent mornings, 7° C, but all that sun
will only raise the afternoon temperature to 9° C.
That is one degree under what I would say is the first
hint of warmth, although if the wind is light enough
it could feel still feel nice when in direct sunshine
while wearing a dark coat. At the moment only one hour
featuring just sunny spells is shown for tomorrow, but
the temperature could hit 10° C, but with no sunshine
that will still feel chilly.
There was quite a lot of good stuff yesterday, but also some quite bad ! My whole morning, and some of the afternoon was geared up to go out, but as the time to go out approached I began to lose enthusiasm, and I really had to push myself to finally grab my Nikon D300s camera, put on a coat, and actually head out into unexpected light rain. My full archived page for today includes about 7 photos, a description of my quick visit to a gig, some thoughts about medical stuff, plus the usual stuff about sleep, and the start of this morning. |

For a brief time it looked like the weather forecast for yesterday would turn out to be very wrong. From amid some gloomy looking clouds came rays of sunshine, and suddenly the day looked so much better. It started just after 11am, but 20 minutes later it was back to doom and gloom....well maybe not exactly doom, but bad enough. At least it stayed dry despite the 10% chance of rain through most of the day. The brief bit of sunshine did nothing for the temperature which peaked at 6° C. Today's weather forecast
looks a lot like yesterday's with a small change -
today could see 8° C from mid afternoon. Today also
started a degree or so less cold than yesterday, but
the dark clouds from about 11am to 3pm are going to
make it feel chilly. Those dark clouds bring a 10%
chance of rain, but no rain is expected to fall.
Tomorrow should see lighter clouds, and a lot of sunny
spells at first, and then sunshine later - maybe. It
could see the temperature peak at 9° C. It will be
start of trend towards slightly better, or just warmer
weather for much of the week ahead.
Yesterday was almost another day of rest, but I did do two things that needed a modicum of physical effort. The first was a shopping trip to Tesco where I was very selective in what I bought. I didn't buy anything that was instant temptation. The second thing I did was to hand wash a pair of lounge pants, a t-shirt, and some underwear. Apart from leaving it soaking while I went out shopping, I did the rest of the process in one go. That sounds like all of yesterday described, but there is more, and also stuff about sleeping and this morning in my complete archived page for today. |

The weather forecast was just teasing when they predicted lots of sunny spells and even some long periods of sunshine. There was one sunny spell at approximately 1.30pm, and it last for less than one minutes. Most of yesterday was very dull and dreary. It seemed to stay dry, and the temperature reached about 7° C. Today's weather forecast,
even the latest revision, seems to be describing
yesterday's weather quite well. Today is going to be
very gloomy with occasional spells of just gloomy.
There is a 10% chance of rain at any time, but it will
probably be dry. By the afternoon, this morning's 4° C
will have only risen to 6° C. All in all, a rather
unpleasant day. Tomorrow may reach 8° C, but otherwise
will probably be very similar to today. The day after
tomorrow could be equally bad.
The whole of yesterday was about staying warm and resting in case I was suffering from some sort of unknown illness that was causing me a lot of discomfort - mainly when in the cold. Even today I have no idea if I am suffering from any more than old age, cold weather, and low, or high, barometric pressure. I do know that keeping warm yesterday meant that I only had a few brief twinges of discomfort. I did a few small things yesterday, and you can read about those, plus my night, and the start of this morning in my complete archived page for today. |

There was a lot of doubt about if we would see the sun yesterday, and while I think I might have seen a sunny spell, I can't be sure of it. On the whole it was a grey day, and the wet pavements and road suggested there were frequent falls of very fine drizzle even if no obvious rain could be seen when watching from indoors. Despite the temperature reaching 8° C, albeit briefly, it seemed to be another cold day. There should be sunny spells
later today, but the latest revision to the forecast
now says the first will be at 11am. At the moment it
looks rather dull. It should stay dry today, and the
temperature should rise to 7° C. That may not feel too
bad in sunshine - provided the wind is no more than
the very lightest breeze. Tomorrow could be a watered
down version of today - the temperature a degree less,
and only a handful of sunny spells.
This morning I feel I can only judge yesterday as good and bad, but I suppose that doesn't make it all that different to most days. One good thing about yesterday is that I made sure I kept warm, and I suffered from hardly any aches and pains for most of the day. The whole of yesterday, last night, and the start of this morning, both good news and bad news, is described in my complete archived page for today. |

The mist forecast for yesterday never seemed to be more than a very light haze except in the afternoon when it was actually very light drizzle. The temperature did reach 5° C about mid afternoon, but even then it still felt like a rather cold day. There was heavy rain forecast for 7 and 8pm, and there was rain sometime in the evening, but it didn't seem to be heavy rain. By my reckoning, based on
the results of several thermometers, this morning was
closer to 5° C than the forecast 4° C. It is certainly
very dull at the moment, and at either 10 or 11am it
is going to get even gloomier, but apparently there is
only a 10% chance of rain at any time today. The sunny
spells shown for 1pm in the screenshot above has now
been moved to 3pm in the latest revision to the
forecast. This could mean no sunny spells at all, or
maybe sunny spells for more than one hour. The best
change to the forecast, in the latest revision, is
that 3 and 4pm are shown as being 8° C. That is not
exactly warm, but less cold than recent days. Apart
from the temperature being lower by a single degree,
tomorrow looks like it might be the same as today.
There were probably more good bits than bad bits of yesterday, but the bad still almost outweighed the good. The bad was all to do with my bodies reaction to the cold, damp, and probably atmospheric pressure. I endured a fair bit of pain at times yesterday. All this is explained in greater detail, along with other stuff from yesterday, last night, and the start of this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |

To my great surprise, after the forecast insisted yesterday would range between dull and very dull, there was a sunny spell ! It lasted 24 seconds, and the sunshine as a bit hazy, but it was definitely a sunny spell. It may have been why the temperature almost hit 6° C. The latest revision to the
weather forecast has cut the mist down to just 10am,
although there is a slight haze even as I write this.
It seems that most of today will feature dark clouds,
and they might rain at 4pm, 7 and 8pm. 8pm may see
heavy rain. Once again the afternoon is forecast to
reach just 5° C. Tomorrow may see lighter cloud for
much of the day, but still no sign of the sun. The
temperature tomorrow might see 8° C in the afternoon.
It is hard to decide if yesterday was a good or bad day. It was neither if the definitions are taken to extremes, but at mild definitions it could still have been either. Maybe it was biassed towards the bad, but the day still had a few good points. One good thing was a short walk to the shops, and the other was finding some vague information about a medical condition that is causing me some discomfort recently. All this is explained in my complete archived page for today that also includes descriptions of my night, and the start of this morning. |

There was some nice happy and cheerful sunshine yesterday morning, but it all fizzled out around 1pm. The rest of the day was dull, but fortunately, not too gloomy for most of the time. It was a very cold morning, -4° C, and the afternoon high was a chilly +4° C. The first version of the
weather forecast I saw for today shows the day as
being very dull, but the latest revision now shows
almost half the hours of the day to feature only white
cloud. Sadly no sunshine at all is expected.
This morning started at +4° C, but it will only rise
by one single degree, to 5° C by midday. While it
could be worse, for instance if it were to rain, it is
still a recipe for an unpleasant day. Tomorrow could
start at just 1° C, and slowly rise to 6° C, but maybe
only by 5pm. By 7pm it could be raining. The whole day
will only see a mix of white and dark clouds, and not
a single ray of sunshine will be seen - unless the
forecast for tomorrow changes a lot tomorrow - which
is quite likely.
Yesterday turned out to be a day that I could not have predicted. It was not exactly a productive day, although there was some productivity, and maybe it could be said that the afternoon, and quite a lot of the evening was a different sort of being productive - one with no actual end result except a few memories, but more about that later. My day, night, and the start of this morning is all fully described in my complete archived page for today. |

Yesterday was another sunny, but very cold day. The temperature peaked at just 4° C while the extreme ends of the day were both below zero. The latest revision to the
weather forecast shows fog for 9am. That is just one
minute away as I type this with sunshine pouring
through the window, and the air looking crystal clear.
It also shows 10am as the last hour featuring some
sunny spells. After that it is all doom and
gloom....well, mainly just gloom, although there is a
10% chance of rain at almost any time. The chances are
that it will stay dry, and snow free. It is certainly
not frost free at the moment. My most pessimistic, but
also more isolated outside temperature sensors was
showing -4.6° C - just very slightly more negative
than the forecast -4° C shown in the forecast for 8am.
By 3pm today's temperature should rise to a bloody
chilly 4° C. Thick cloud should keep tomorrow above
zero at the ends of the day, but it could rise to 5° C
in the afternoon. No rain/snow/sleet is expected, but
the thick dark clouds shown make it seem that it will
be gloomy in the extreme.
Yesterday's attempt to keep this daily diary a bit shorter seemed to almost work. I couldn't get it down to the, sometimes, just a few lines I used to write her almost 20 years ago, but it was less bloated than more recent stuff. I am going to attempt to keep today's writing fairly short, but it will be tricky because a few things did happen yesterday. What did happen is all revealed in my complete archived page for today, which also includes last night and the start of this morning. |

Yesterday was generally sunny - which was good - but it was also rather cold - which was bad ! The temperature did reach 6° C for a short while in the middle of the day, but both ends of the day were very cold. If I recall correctly, the temperature was very close to zero by 9pm. Today has started very cold.
As forecast, it was indeed -3° C at 8am, and it may
well take until 11am until zero is reached, and 3pm
before the temperature reaches it's peak of just 4° C
today. The latest revision has only changed 1pm from
sunshine to sunny spells. Other than that it should be
bright and sunny all day. It is just a shame all that
sunshine it too weak to warm things up outside. Oh
well, at least the warning for fog came to
nothing. Tomorrow should see a similar range of
temperature, but there may be almost no sunshine at
all. Next Wednesday may feature mist and fog, but that
could change to anything over the next few days.
It was interesting looking back at my first ever post on this website, and other early entries. Twenty years ago I wrote very brief entries, and it made me think that these days my entries are very bloated. The main problem is that it takes up too much of the morning to write them. On the other hand I do write stuff that could be useful/interesting just to me in the future. It seems I still had a fair amount to say, but I have managed to keep today shorter than most recent days. The entire page, which includes last night and this morning is here. |

Yesterday morning was bright and sunny, and there were some sunny spells in the afternoon, but the afternoon was not as good as some revisions of the weather forecast suggested it would be. Oh well, at least it stayed dry, although there was over an hour in the middle of the afternoon when thick, dark clouds made it seem like torrential rain might fall at any moment. At 6° C in the afternoon it was slightly less cold than the day before. It is bright and sunny now,
and has been for an hour or two. The latest revision
to the forecast shows full sunshine until 4pm when
there will just be sunny spells until the sun sets.
That could make for a colourful sunset. The maximum
temperature today is still forecast to be just 6° C,
and that only for a single hour at 3pm. By 11pm it
will have fallen to just 2° C. By 6am tomorrow morning
the temperature may have fallen to -1° C. Once again
there should be plenty of sunshine or sunny spells,
but the maximum temperature could be just 4° C.
There doesn't seem to be any particular good reason for it, but yesterday was another good, or maybe medium good, day. Of course lots of sunshine, like yesterday had, always raised the spirit, and can turn a bad day good. There were still enough non weather related reasons to make yesterday good enough. I've probably written over a thousand words more about yesterday, last night, and this morning, and you can read them here, and see a couple of pictures, in my complete archived page for today. |

Yesterday was generally bright, but the periods between the sunny spells seemed to be fairly long sometimes. It was a very, very slightly warmer day than the day before with the temperature being above zero soon after sunrise, and the afternoon high being 4° C - so warmer, but far from warm ! It is bright and sunny now,
and the latest revision to the forecast has extended
the sunny spells beyond 2pm (as shown in the earlier
version above) all the way until sunset. The afternoon
temperature is still shown as 6° C, and that is an
improvement over yesterday, but only a couple of
degrees extra. I was surprised to see a frost this
morning. I noted that at midnight, last night, the
temperature was still a few tenths of a degree above
zero, and at 8am this morning is seemed to be plus 1°
C. I assume it dipped below zero in the earlier hours
of this morning. It seems it will still be 3° C at
11pm tonight. In terms of sunshine, tomorrow may be
very similar to today. The lowest temperature tomorrow
may be 0° C at 8am, and the highest will be 6° C at
2pm. Like today, tomorrow should be dry.
Yesterday was a generally good day, although it did involve some excess, and unneeded eating. Another negative was that I found that the last book that was delivered the day before yesterday was one I already had, but published under a different title. That was a bit annoying because it was the most expensive of the books I had ordered recently. As usual, the rest of my day, night, and this morning, is described in my complete archived page for today. |

Yesterday was bright and dry, and also started very frosty. By 2pm the temperature had risen to about 4° C according to the weather forecast, but for some reason I think it may have actually been closer to 3° C. There was only a very light breeze, and in the sunshine, while wearing a thick coat and gloves it didn't feel too bad. Last night was not as cold
as the previous night. I noticed that the temperature
was only turning negative at midnight last night. This
morning it was about -1° C, but it looks very frosty
outside. Like yesterday, the temperature should rise
to about 4° C by mid afternoon. The latest revision to
the forecast acknowledges that it is already sunny,
and the period of dark cloud, shown above for 11am,
has been changed to white cloud. Maybe apart from
11am, the day should be bright and sunny like
yesterday. Tomorrow will be like today except the
sunny spells may be replaced with full sunshine, and
that should raise the afternoon temperature to 6° C.
Much of yesterday was rather good, although the evening was not so good. Having said that, there was one short lived fly in the ointment towards the end of the morning. I had a very nice shower, and washed my hair, but as I predicted, the drain pipe from the bath had frozen up, and at the end of my wash there was 3 or 4 inches of soapy water that could not drain away from the bath. Fortunately the day warmed up enough to unfreeze the pipe. That and other good news, plus the rest of my day, night and this morning, is all described in my complete archived page for today. |

Yesterday was another very cold day with the temperature only rising to about 3° C, but it was also a day that featured a lot of sunshine. Most the sunshine was thin and watery, but maybe that, and possibly a very, very, very, light mist gave the light a sort of soft feel. In turn that gave the very cold air a sort of soft feeling. Twenty degrees warmer and it might have been a very nice day. Today is seeming to be a lot
like yesterday. There should be plenty of thin winter
sunshine, often shining through thin misty clouds, but
today could be a whole degree warmer ! From mid
afternoon to 6pm it should be 4° C. In broad terms, it
seems the description for today also fits tomorrow,
and maybe even several days after, but it should
slowly warm up a few degrees during those days.
Most of yesterday was like the day before - not a lot happened ! However, once again, not a lot means that there were a few things that happened. One positive thing was that the postman delivered three of the Edmund Cooper books I had recently ordered via Amazon. All the rest of my day, night, and this morning, are described in my complete archived page for today. |
Tuesday 17th January

GMT
As forecast, yesterday was very cold, and mostly very dull. The highest temperature was forecast as 5° C, and I think that was about right. Early versions of the weather forecast predicted some rain mid afternoon, but later revisions said no rain. The reality was some light rain at just after 2pm, and another shower a couple of hours later. By 10pm the temperature was about to turn negative ! The forecast for today shows
lots of sunny spells, but they are (obviously) caused
by clear skies, and those clear skies allowed the
temperature to plummet last night. One of my outside
thermometers was saying -3.6° C a little earlier, and
another almost confirmed it (it disagreed by a couple
of tenths of a degree). Today's "high" is predicted to
be no more than 3° C ! Another clear night means the
temperature will plummet again, although the current
forecast for tomorrow shows it starting at 0° C, and
then more sunny spells may raise it to 5° C.
Yesterday was an odd day. I did very little, and really only achieved one thing, but it seems I was still too busy to do one thing I was going to do. I have no idea how I achieved that. I don't think I even had time for a snooze. It seems that somehow I was also busy doing nothing to avoid eating temptations ! I have tried to describe everything I can remember about yesterday, last night and this morning in my complete archived page for today. |
Monday 16th January

There was a fair bit of sunshine, or sunny spells yesterday, but they did nothing for the temperature. The highest temperature yesterday was a very cold feeling 7° C, and a fair bit of wind made that feel even colder. The early version of the forecast said it would rain at 5pm, but that threat disappeared from later revisions to the forecast, and it was indeed a dry day. Today is going to be a very
cold day. The maximum temperature may only be 5° C,
and it will soon drop again to end up at 0° C at 10pm.
The latest revision has got rid of the rain shown
above for 3 and 4pm. That is just as well because it
would have been so close to falling as sleet, or even
snow. At the moment it looks very dull outside, and
most of the day could be like this - very cold, and
very dull ! Semi clear skies overnight will all ow the
temperature to drop to -2° C by 6am tomorrow, and
while it should be a sunny day, the highest
temperature could be an agonisingly cold 3° C - and
that may only last for a single hour.
I must have slept even better than I described yesterday morning because I seemed to be very alert yesterday morning. After I had finished writing this diary I washed, and then went out to shop in Tesco not much later than half an hour after they opened. It was nicer shopping in a less crowded store. The only bad thing, or maybe it was a good thing, was that the reduced price shelf was almost empty, and had nothing of interest. This dialogue continues in my complete archived page for today. It includes last night and the start of this morning. |

Yesterday morning was a disgusting morning - very dull light, and loads of rain. Even when the rain stopped, sometime after midday, it was still very dull out, and I am not sure that the rain did fully stop. There may have been a couple of very light showers. The later morning temperature of 12° C was hardly appreciated, and after that the temperature slowly fell away giving a rather cold night. Just before sunrise, when the
eastern sky was getting light, the sky seemed really
clear, and the moon was bright and sharp. Now the sky
has completely clouded over with grey looking clouds.
The chances of the forecast sunny spells, and even
sunshine, looks rather slim at the moment, but the
latest revision to the forecast now says full sunshine
at 9am - just 45 minutes time as I write this. The
other contentious issue is that according to my three
outdoor temperature sensors the temperature was barely
above 4° C at just after 7am. The latest revision to
the forecast says sunshine or sunny spells from 9am
until 3pm with only midday shown as cloudy. The rain
for 5pm has now been replaced by just "cloudy", and
the highest temperature shown as 7° C. Tonight will
get very cold, and it will stay very cold tomorrow.
The highest temperature is shown as 4° C, and that
will fall close to zero by midnight.
I feel I want to use the word "moribund" to describe yesterday, but I have to admit I do not know it's precise meaning. As a general not much happening sounding word it feels like it could be right to describe yesterday. The biggest reason to not describe yesterday like that is that only most of yesterday featured not much happening. I did end up doing a few things, and these are described, along with my night, and this morning in my compete archived page for today. |

Yesterday morning had some lovely sunny spells, and they continued into the early afternoon, but then faded out. I don't think the sunny spells forecast for the last couple of hours of daylight actually happened, or maybe the sun was so low in the sky that it made no impact indoors. It was a dry day, and that was good, but a top temperature of just 10° C was disappointing. There should be heavy rain as
I write this, but there is no rain I can see through
the window, although that wouldn't rule out fine
drizzle. All the puddles point to heavier rain earlier
! Even the latest revision to the forecast says the
last of the rain will be at midday, and then the
afternoon, and the rest of the day, should stay dry.
It seems a little odd that the highest temperature
today will actually start at 10am, It will then start
to cool from midday. This must be because the rain is
being caused by warm and wet air blowing in from
warmer places. The temperature may drop to 6° C by
midnight, 4° C by 4am tomorrow, and then back up to 7°
C at it's peak tomorrow. Tomorrow is going to be
rather cool, and even cooler days could follow. Oh
well, at least tomorrow should be dry, and there may
be a solitary sunny spell just as the sun is setting.
Once again I think I can describe yesterday as a good day. It was really an mostly unexciting day, but it seemed to pass very quickly with no particular boring bit, or anything else negative. Despite saying I might be drawn out by the sunshine, even if it was no more than a quick walk to a local shop, I didn't leave home at any time yesterday. What I did do during the day, last night, and this morning is all described in my complete archived page for today. |

yesterday was generally dull, but for a couple of hours from mid afternoon, it was also very wet. The only good thing, and in that dull and wet weather it was extremely marginal, was that it was 12° C for much of the day. It is sunny now, but
revisions to the forecast sometimes add sunny hour,
and some take them away again. The latest revision
shows sunshine or sunny spells at 10 and 11am. Then
there are some dull hours before the sun comes out
again at 2pm. From then on it there should be some
sunshine until sunset at 4pm. The highest temperature
today is forecast to be just 10° C, but clear skies at
the start of the night will allow the temperature to
drop to 7 or 8° C. Tomorrow should see the temperature
rise to 12° C, but at the cost of heavy rain between
1am and 2pm ! Once the rain has stopped the
temperature will start to drop, and it seems it will
keep dropping. The forecast could, and probably will
change a lot before next Tuesday arrives, but if it
doesn't change it would seem that next Tuesday could
be perishing cold !
I think I have to declare that yesterday as a good day. It probably helped that during the first half of the morning, I made several visits to the toilet that saw off the last of the previous day or two of semi-constipation. I am sure there must be a word that describes a sort of halfway house to constipation, where you go, but it is obvious it is not enough. Anyway, that is the unpleasant bit over and done with....until next time ! The nicer bits of yesterday, last night, and the start of this morning, are all described in my complete archived page for today. |

The weather forecast came close to getting it right yesterday. The morning was bright and sunny, although a quite strong, cold wind made it feel chilly. By midday the clouds were getting thicker, and we lost the sunny spells shortly before 1pm. By 2pm there had already been a light fall of rain, and 10 munutes later it was getting semi heavy. From then on it just seemed to rain a lot, although I was paying no attention to the times it might have started and stopped. In the wind, and in the rain, a maximum of 10° C felt very chilly. It may not be raining now,
but it is still very wet outside. The temperature here
is 12° C, and it seems it is as high as it is going to
get today. The latest revision to the forecast shows
mainly white clouds for a lot of today, but that is at
complete odds with my view of the sky. I would
describe those clouds as a sort of dirty grey. I would
not be surprised if there is not several sprinkles of
rain today before the next forecast time (according to
the latest revision). Rain is supposed to fall between
3 and 5pm with 4pm seeing heavy rain. After 5pm the
clouds will thin right out, and maybe even disappear
for some hours, and the temperature will start to
drop. By tomorrow morning it could be down to 7° C.
Tomorrow might be a mostly sunny day, or at least
between 11am and sunset, but the temperature may only
rise to 10° C. Both today and tomorrow will feature
some gusty wind that will make it feel cold outside.
Yesterday was a day that started off well, peaked, and then went rapidly down hill, although it was not until late evening that I realised it had gone down hill as far as it had, and this morning it was confirmed as a disaster, and probably because I got caught in the rain again. The full story of yesterday, last night, and this morning is unpleasant, but not as unpleasant to read as to experience it. You can read the whole thing at my complete archived page for today. |

The weather forecast for yesterday wasn't exactly right, but came quite close to reality. The main divergence from reality was saying the morning rain would be a lot heavier than it seemed to be. I am unsure if there was heavy, or indeed any rain at 8pm, and later - I had shut out the external world by then. The temperature forecast of 12° C was about right. Both the BBC and Met Office
weather forecasts seem to broadly agree in today's
weather forecast, and both may be a little wrong. It
is almost 9am, and the sunshine hasn't started yet
because of some cloud to the east, but with a lot of
blue sky is certainly could happen. The main
difficulty at the moment is how long the brightness
will last, in the early afternoon, before rain starts
to fall. The Met Office suggest 3pm, and the BBC say
2pm, and they also say it will only be light rain, and
not he Met Office prediction of heavy rain. With an
afternoon temperature of just 10° C it is not going to
be a great day, but hopefully this morning will be
pleasant. Tomorrow will probably feature light
rain from morning to evening, but in some sort of
compensation the afternoon should be 12° C with 13° C
being possible.
While the rain may not have been heavy for all of yesterday morning, it was still wet and gloomy enough to leave the day feeling very depressing. I certainly felt no impetus to go out, and as predicted, I was a bit bored, but only now and then. There were two bits of good news yesterday. One bit was my nice low blood glucose reading, and the other was that the water pressure had risen back to normal again, and I had plenty of hot water. My actual day, night, and the start of this morning is described in full in my complete archived page for today. |

Yesterday was yet another day when the early morning weather forecast was a lot more pessimistic than reality. Yesterday could almost be described as a sunny day. It was one of those cases where the BBC forecast very nearly got it right. They said sunny spells for most of the day, but 11am, shown initially as heavy rain, and then just dark cloud on the Met Office forecast was just light cloud, but dense enough to kill the sunny spells for around an hour. Also the sunny spells sort of slowly faded away after 2pm. For all that unexpected sunshine, the temperature only managed to rise to 8° C. Today both the BBC and Met
Office weather forecasts agree that it will be a very
wet morning, a dry, but dull afternoon, and then rain
again this evening. The BBC throws in some drizzle at
3pm as an added extra ! For all it's worth, at least
today will be a little less chilly at 12° C (possibly
13° C by late evening). Tomorrow there could be
sunshine or sunny spells from about 9am to 1pm, and
then light rain starting at 2 or 3pm. The temperature
tomorrow reach just 10° C.
It was only with the benefit of hindsight that I realised I could have gone out for a bit of a walk yesterday, although while I would have stayed dry, and the sunshine would have been uplifting, it was still rather cool out there in the big wild world. I stayed in all day, but I did manage to do some useful stuff. That, and the rest of my day, night, and even the start of this morning is described in my complete archived page for today. |

Once again, the weather forecast for yesterday did not match the reality of the area it was supposed to be forecasting. Instead of it being a wet morning it was a sunny morning. Maybe it should have been called a morning of sunny spells, but some of those sunny spells seemed to last as much as an hour. From about 1pm the weather came a bit closer to the forecast when some light rain, instead of the forecast heavy rain, began to fall. There were a few short periods of heavy rain, but mostly it was little more than intermittent drizzle until even that finished some time after dark. The forecast said the afternoon temperature would only be 9° C, but while it might just be imagination, I think it may have hit 12° C. There was probably some light
rain in the early hours of this morning, but it is not
raining now, and there are patches of blue sky among
the clouds - some of which do seem to be quite dark
looking clouds. It is possible we will get the a sunny
spell or two, as forecast for 9am this morning. The
11am rain has disappeared in the latest revision, and
so has the sunny spells for 2pm. It still says
dark cloud for 11am, but the chance of rain for that
hour is now the same as most of today - just 10%. This
morning was just 6° C (possibly as low as 5° C), and
the afternoon high may be just 8° C. Tomorrow may
feature a day of dark grey clouds, and a lot of rain,
but it will be warmer with an afternoon temperature of
12° C. It's worth mentioning that the BBC weather
forecast is saying sunny spells all day today.
It is tempting to describe yesterday as good and bad, but good and stupid gets closer, and good and drunk probably hits the nail on the head. I don't recall having a lot of get-up-and-go yesterday morning, and there was reason to be in a serious mood. I was having trouble with my waterworks yesterday morning, and by that I mean my water heater, and not my bladder and other internal plumbing. This is explained in more detail, along with a description of the reast of my day, my night, and the start of this morning in my complete archived page for today. |

Much of yesterday was wet, and I can't remember the single sunny spell, forecast for 3pm in the early morning version of the forecast, happening. Maybe there was a time when it brightened up, and maybe the odd ray of sunshine blinked through the clouds, but none seems to have lodged in my memory. With an afternoon temperature of just 11° C, it was not a very nice day. There was most definitely
some heavy rain around 3am, but more about that later.
The problem with the early version of today's weather
forecast, as shown above, is that it is very wrong.
Since just before sunrise, and continuing now, the sky
has been almost clear, and although there are plenty
of puddles on the road, it is definitely not raining
now. The latest revision to the forecast now shows no
rain until 10am, but after that the rain will
continue, at various strengths, until 6pm. I have
doubts it will happen, and it may just be a way of the
forecasters trying to assert their self belief of
being all knowing, but 6pm is currently shown as being
not rain, but hail ! The clear sky has meant that the
temperature was only just 7° C earlier, but for just
one single hour, at 11am, the temperature could rise
to 11° C. It is going to be a rather cool day today.
Tomorrow may be cooler still, just 8° C, but it may be
dry, and there could even be a bit of sunshine in the
late afternoon.
In a curious sort of way, yesterday was rather a good day. I had no idea it would be good in the morning. At that time it seemed like I might be heading for another boring day. For a while I did think that maybe I would go shopping either in Aldi or Tesco. I didn't go out in the end. To read what I did do read my complete archived page for today. It also includes my night, and this morning - including a picture of the sky at sunrise this morning. |

The worst thing about yesterday's weather was it was not the same as the weather forecast, and then it almost was ! The morning was, as the forecast predicted, bright and sunny, and it probably lasted a little longer than originally forecast, and certainly longer than later revisions of the forecast predicted. Having said that, after midday the sunny spells were often short and far between. The middle of the day was about as predicted - light coloured clouds, and a temperature of 11° C. It was the evening that was most annoying. First it would be dry, and then it was supposed to rain, and then it wasn't...there was a light sprinkle of rain, probably ignorable, very late in the evening. I am unsure, but it may well
have been raining at 8am, but it is certainly raining
now, and the latest revision to the forecast says
light rain will continue throught to 1pm, and then
resume again at 5pm for possibly 3 or 4 hours. Between
2pm and 4pm it might stay dry, but 2pm is still shown
as a 20% of rain. Those hours will feature just light
cloud, and a temperature of 11° C. Tomorrow could be
brighter than today, but there will still be rain for
possibly most of the day, and the highest temperature
could be just 9° C, although 8° C is likely to be more
representative of the day.
Yesterday was a terrible day in all sorts of ways ! The day started off fairly normal, albeit a bit later than I would usually get up, and for a few hours it was like I was constipated. It was probably eating my hot instant noodles for breakfast that got things moving, but my that time I had drunk too much (not booze !), and had eaten, and so I didn't bother to weigh myself. That was just the start of things, and it got far worse later in the day. It is all described in my complete archived page for today. It also includes the bad night's sleep I had, and a some negative stuff this morning. |

The forecast revisions didn't predict it until it was almost over, but instead of the gloom shown in the early revisions of the weather forecast, there were sunny spells from about 10am through to at least midday. Sadly the rest of the day was dull. The afternoon temperature of 13° C did feel mild - possibly because there was not a lot of wind yesterday. The latest revision has
throttled back the last sunny spells to 11am, but it
still makes for a nice start to the day. The rest of
today will be what I call "overcast", but which the
forecast calls "cloudy". Apparently the cloud icons
have to be grey, instead of white, to be called
overcast. It seems the warmest part of the day will be
the evening when the temperature should have risen
slowly to 12° C. It will probably be dry, but there is
a 10% of rain for most of today. Most of tomorrow may
be just 10° C, and most of tomorrow looks like it will
be wet !
Things fell apart a bit in the evening, but most of yesterday was quite good. Once I had showered, and dressed, I went on a shopping trip to the little supermarket on Catford Bridge. Top of my shopping list was a loaf of Polish sourdough bread. I originally liked it because of it's very low sugar content, but now I just think of it as really good bread. I also bought some vegetables, and the inevitable packets of instant noodles. The story of yesterday continues in my complete archived page for today. It also includes my night and the start of this morning. |

Despite the optimistic forecast, yesterday had appalling weather. The only almost sunny spell had all the power of a 15W lightbulb, and after it's 20 second of glory it started to rain. Some of the rainw as rather heavy - particularly when walking through it. Even when it wasn't raining it was very, very dull - except for that 20 seconds when the sun almost broke through. If it wasn't for a strong wind the 13° C might have felt OK, but that wind carried quite a chill. The latest revision hasn't
change the weather forecast. It seems it is going to
be a dull, but dry day. The temperature should peak at
13° C, and that is about all there is to say except
that there is a 10% chance of rain at almost any time
today even if no rain is shown on the chart. The
clouds should be a bit lighter tomorrow, and there is
a slim chance of some sunny spells in the morning, but
tomorrow will probably be a colder day with a top
temperature of just 10° C.
Apart from seeing Angela, which was very good, almost everything else about yesterday was terrible, and all because of the weather, or specifically a weather forecast that was a tissue of lies ! I will admit it did seem to lighten up a bit as I had my shave, shampoo, and shower prior to going out to walk through the park. I also got a shower as I walked home from the pub. All this is described in greater details, with a couple pictures to show the situation better, plus how I had a crap nights sleep, but this morning is quite good, in my complete archived page for today. |

Yesterday was a very dull, and frequently wet day. It started off at a cool 6° C before slowly rising to 12° C by late evening. I feared refreshing the
weather forecast page because I had a bad feeling it
would spoil the optimism of the early forecast (as
shown above). Sadly it did. The first sunny spell is
now not expected until 11am, and now the fear is that
a newer revision will make it even later, or possible
change some of the sunny hours to gloomy hours. At the
moment it seems we can expect sunny spells from 11am
until 3pm. There was one small change for the better,
and it is that it is expected to be 14° C by midday,
although by 2am it will already have fallen to 13° C.
Nevertheless, even 13° C, backed with some sunshine,
will feel good. Tomorrow will probably be grey, but
dry with an afternoon temperature of 12° C.
I find it hard to decide if yesterday was a good or bad day. The problem hinges on the idea that although I only had one brief diversion from reality, the day seemed to pass quite quickly - almost as if I had being doing something useful that makes the hours pass much quicker, or seems to. My day is described more fully in my complete archived page for today which also includes my night, and the start of this morning. |

Yesterday was a mostly sunny day, but in some weird way it didn't feel like it. Maybe it was because there were still some rather dark clouds in the sky that gave the day a grey look even when the sun was shining. Maybe I was just not in a positive enough mood. The maximum temperature of 8° C did not improve things. The forecast temperature for
early this morning was a bit optimistic. By my
reckoning it is just about to hit 6° C as I write this
just before 8am. The main change in the latest
revision to the forecast is that it shows the rain
starting at 10am, and then continuing through the
whole day. The temperature should slowly rise through
the day, and by 9pm it could reach 12° C. There will
be a few dry hours, but it seems the last of the rain
will fall at 6am tomorrow ! Most of tomorrow may
feature white cloud, but some sunny spells are
expected, and the temperature could reach 13° C.
Maybe I was spoiled by going out for a drink with Michael the day before yesterday, or maybe it was yesterday's weather, but I don't think yesterday was a good day. If there was anything good about it, it was that I finally got to go shopping in Aldi. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was a slightly bland experience. There are a couple of pictures of things I bought, plus a longer description of my shopping trip, and the rest of the afternoon, the night, and my thoughts and stuff this morning in my complete archived page for today. |

There was some watery sunshine occasionally breaking through the clouds yesterday morning, but most of yesterday was rather dull. There was some very, very light, and ignorable rain early in the afternoon, but real, although still fairly light, rain fell sometime after sunset, and possibly continued late into the night. The afternoon high was 12° C, and with no supporting sunshine, it felt to be halfway between cold and mild. It is about 7° C now,
according to my outdoor thermometers, and the sun is
doing it's best to shine over the top of a bank of
cloud to the east. The latest revision to the forecast
shows either sunny spells, or full sunshine starting
at 9am (or right now) until sunset. The latest
revision also agrees with my measurement of 7° C.
Sadly, the highest temperature today may only be 8° C,
but any sunshine should make that feel slightly mild.
Tomorrow may see a return to 12° C, but it will come
at a cost of grey skies, and probably lots of light
rain.
I think I can declare yesterday to have been a good day, although it was not without a few slightly bad things. One such bad thing was Aldi's website saying the store would open at 11am when I walk there showed it was definitely closed ! Oh well, it was a bit of very light exercise because I walked the long way home again. I probably walked as much as half a mile ! A few hours later and I would go for only a very slightly shorter walk. To find where, and why, etc, read my complete archived page for today. As usual, it also includes some notes about my night, and the start of this morning. |

Yesterday, the last day of the year, was pretty miserable. It rained for much of the day, although most of the rain seemed to be light rain, rather than the heavy rain forecast. Nevertheless, some of the rain was heavy ! In theory the only good thing was the temperature which just touched 14° C for a short while. In practice, on such a dull, wet and miserable day, the outside temperature only meant a little less electricity burnt to keep indoors warm and comfortable. The sky has been fairly clear
for some time now, but the sun has just risen above
the houses to the east, but only just, and there is
some thin sunshine coming over the top. Sadly the
latest revision says the sunny spells will finish at
10am, and that there could be a sprinkle of rain at
1pm. It should then stay dry, but dull until more rain
starts to fall at 5pm. It looks like that will last
all night. Today should still make 12° C, but not when
there is any sunshine, and when it would be most
appreciated. Tomorrow will be a lot cooler, just 8° C,
but if the forecast holds, the day should feature a
fair amount of sunny spells and even sunshine.
Yesterday was a busy day, and I guess I have a better understanding of what people do in offices. I spent a lot of the day working on spreadsheets. I am rather glad that I could edit last years spreadsheets recording my temperature, blood glucose, and blood pressure, for this year. "Edit" sounds sort of easy, but in practice it saved some useful time, but I still had to redo the days and dates in each sheet of the three spreadsheets. I was doing it in batches, and the last one was finished at about 7pm last night. Other stuff I did during the day, plus how my night went, and about the start of this morning can be read in my complete archived page for today. |
