Yesterday was the last day of a series of pleasant days, and it was also the best of those pleasant days. The sun was out most of the time, although now and again it was slightly hazy sunshine, and the temperature definitely hit 13° C. It probably hit 14° C for an hour or two.
     dull and damp
The BBC weather forecast warns of drizzle this morning, and they are right. The Met Office say there is a 10% chance of rain at any time today, but don't say any time when it will rain. The BBC also say that from 1pm there will be light cloud. The Met Office say heavy cloud all day. It seems the chances of any sunshine today are zero ! Nevertheless, this afternoon should still see the temperature rise to 12° C (or 13° C according to the BBC). Tomorrow may be very similar, but 1° warmer.

Yesterday was good and bad. The good was definitely walking through the park in my sleeveless denim jacket, and feeling the sun on my arms. The bad, or part of it, was walking through the park and feeling like I was on the tail end of a 8 mile walk ! Also bad was that Angela continues to ignore my messages.

There was one other good/bad thing in the morning. It was a letter from The Inland Revenue, or whatever they call themselves today. The sight of it sent icy shivers of fear up my spine. Fortunately it was mostly innocent - just a notification of my new tax code for the coming financial year. It was probably bad that my new tax code is almost half of what it was. At this point in time I have not found last years notification letter to compare it to the new. Although I wouldn't mind paying a little extra tax if I was 110% sure the money would go towards the NHS, I feel sure it will end up in some Tory crony's back pocket.

As intended, I went to The Jolly Farmers for a lunchtime pint. I knew I would be on my own, and so I went via Catford Bridge station, where I picked up a copy of The Metro, and then got the next train to Ladywell. I even managed to snap a picture of a new train to add to my big spreadsheet of train photos. I will admit it was a lousy picture because it was taken into the sun.

I sent the picture above to Angela while I was in the pub. I added the message "Sending healing love from The Jolly Farmers". It was sent via Whatsapp, and so I know she saw it not too long after I sent it, but like my previous messages, she seems to have ignored it. Whether that was because lover boy was looking over her shoulder, or whether she has gone off me, is a big unknown at the moment.

I only stayed for my usual two pints of Guinness before leaving the pub to walk home. It was pleasant being in the warm sunshine, but the walking was quite unpleasant. My legs felt really stiff, and it felt like I had to stop three times for a very short rest - maybe just 5 or 10 seconds to take a deep breath before continuing. I was very glad to get home and to rest - although initially it was just resting from walking.

The first thing I did was to make a couple of slices of cheese on toast. I was using some sourdough bread bought from Aldi. It didn't boast zero sugar, like the Polish sourdough bread I like, but the sugar content seemed to be quite low. One bigger difference would seem to be that the Aldi version has a much lower shelf life. I only bought it from Aldi a couple of days earlier, and it already seemed to be drying out. It made very crisp toast - which was sort of good.

While I was eating my cheese on toast I had a look around the social news and discovered a comment from Miranda (Angela's daughter) who mentioned that Angela had a broken leg. Her fall seems worse and worse. I really wish Angela was prepared to talk about it. It makes it seem that there is more to the story than a excess of vodka on the evening it seemed to happen.

I can't seem to remember if I had a snooze yesterday afternoon. I suspect not for reasons I'll come to soon. I was certainly very lazy except for one thing, and that was finishing the preparation to my dinner, although that was only chopping up white cabbage to go with the diced beef that I had part cooked in the morning. I ate my dinner while watching some TV, and it was literally no more than stewed beef and cabbage plus some back pepper and a couple of stock cubes.

I thought I was feeling quite tired as I watched some TV last night, and it seems I also lost track of the time. I watched The Simpsons on Ch4+1, and that finished at 7.30pm. I then check to see when and who is on QI. Last night the guest list looked OK, but there was only one showing of QI last night, and it was on at 9pm. I couldn't be bothered to wait that long, and I brushed my teeth, and went to read in bed for an hour or two. In reality I had put the book down, and I was fast asleep before 9pm.

I seemed to sleep rather well last night, but only until just after 4am. In that time I think I went for a pee twice, and I had a lot of dreams - that I have now forgotten. One unusual thing is that I turned the heater off last night before going to bed. I think it was 2 or 3am when I turned it on again. At 4am I don't think I was too hot or too cold, but it almost seemed like I didn't need any more sleep. I did get some, but I ended up getting up close to 6am.

One malady that caused some mild discomfort in those last hours of sleep, and I am not even sure has stopped now, is more mucus in the windpipe. That ongoing problem, plus my aching legs yesterday, and a few other muscular aches, suggests that my recent cold may have been/is covid and not the common cold. There is another possible clue that I am fighting more than the common cold, but it is tenuous.

This morning, despite some exercise, and not eating anything contentious, my blood glucose is up to 9.7mmol/l this morning. I regard that as very bad, although when I look at my records it is obvious that these high readings have been going on a week now, and they do roughly correspond to being ill. Of course "being ill" can be a very variable term. The only almost consistent symptom is all the mucus in my windpipe, but there have been plenty of times when that seems to have gone away for as much as a whole day. It does seem that it is triggered whenever I do something involving fresh air.

Today is not a good day to try and fast - which is a simple way of getting my blood glucose down again, even if it is hard to do. Today brings further difficulties. One difficulty is that I ought to go to Tesco today to buy a few things, and that brings temptations. Maybe I don't need to go today after all. The other problem is that this afternoon should be a full beer tasting session with Jodie and Michael. I shall look forward to that, and will probably get drunk !
