Today is the day, or at
least one of them, that The
Met Office says will feature
mist all day long. At the
moment there does seem to be
a very light haze, but I
don't think I would describe
it as mist. The BBC say that
this morning will start off
with heavy cloud, and that
seems right. By mid morning
the cloud will be lighter,
but no sunny spells, or rain
for that matter, are
forecast. There may be a
brief, one hour, rise to 13°
C, but most of the afternoon
may only see 12° C. Tomorrow
may feature light cloud all
day with no sunny spells and
no rain. It might be a
single degree warmer in the
afternoon with 13° C
forecast for the whole
afternoon.
In contrast to the
day before yesterday,
yesterday was very quiet. I
never had a shower, and I
didn't go out - except just
once when I delivered an
Amazon order to a neighbour
after it was left here.
Other than that, I can't
think of an interesting or
useful thing I did all day.
One sort of useful
thing (for me) that I did
yesterday concerned my
lunch. I had stuff that
needed using before it got
too old. That stuff was
Hovis so called "hot dog
rolls", and a large packet
of Tesco pork sausages
(possibly from Tesco's
"Finest" range, although
they seemed modestly poor
quality to me). I grilled
two of the 10 (I think)
sausages in the pack, and
put two in two of the hot
dog rolls, and I ate the
third by itself.
I was not impressed
with the sausage meat. It's
texture, or lack of it
seemed like it was possibly
"mechanically recovered"
meat. However, with mustard
and low sugar tomato ketchup
in a hot dog roll, it was
quite a tasty treat. It
seemed as if it should have
also had a very low sugar
content, and I am in two
minds about that, although
at worst it was not a high
sugar content. I think I'll
be repeating this recipe
this afternoon.
The one other thing I
did of any note was also
kitchen based. I cleaned the
inside of the microwave
oven. Except for one thing
it was not as grubby as I
feared it was. That one
exception was all the rust
in the bottom of it. There
is almost no paint left on
the bottom, and it is just
brown rust. It does not look
nice, and it means the
rollers under the plate run
very unevenly when the plate
is turning. I think it will
still be some time before I
bring out the replacement
microwave oven.
I didn't just clean
the microwave oven, but also
cleaned and tidied other
bits of the kitchen. I
sometimes feel quite
domesticated, and then I
glance at the bits that I
didn't clean...... It
seems unlikely, but I can't
think of anything else I did
all afternoon except to read
and snooze. One good thing I
did was not to do something
- eat any snacks ! Errr, or
did I ? I can't seem to
recall if it was yesterday
or the day before that I had
a couple of 25gm packets of
crisps.
I held out until just
gone 6pm before I prepared
and ate my dinner. The
preparation was to open a
can of soup, add some chilli
sauce, heat it up and eat
it. I did that twice - once
with Scotch Broth, and once
with pea and ham soup. As I
have often found, two fairly
low sugar soups don't always
completely satisfy.
Yesterday I had a dessert of
one "red" apple with some
mild blue cheese. It did
seem to make a very good
ending for dinner.
I watched, or at
least half watched, but
sometimes only heard a bit
of TV last night. I also
spent a fair bit of time
readings some tech news
stories on
https://www.theregister.com/,
and in particular the
comments after many of the
news items. The comments can
be more entertaining than
the news itself. The
"commentards" are a snarky
lot. I guess it helps to
have a technical background
to appreciate some of it,
but it can still be quite
educational.
I filled in a lot of
time last night reading my
book -
Harry
Harrison's "Deathworld 3".
Having read the first two
Deathworld novels I guess
that it is now less exciting
now I am on the third novel
of the trilogy. On the other
hand I really want to find
out what happens despite
having read it once before
many years ago. I might have
read half the book last
night, and it was midnight
before I turned out the
light, and fell asleep
rather quickly.
There is not a lot I
can say about last night. I
know I got up every 2 or 3
hours for a pee, and I have
a very foggy memory of some
dreams. I don't know why,
considering I can't remember
any of the dreams, but I
feel that some were quite
entertaining, and rather
pleasant dream. The only
almost definite thing I can
say is that none were erotic
because I would surely
remember something of such
dreams !
Another thing I can't
remember is if I eventually
had a poo yesterday. I
certainly didn't this
morning, and as a result my
weight, when I weighed
myself, was unchanged since
yesterday. My theory is that
a really good poo would
lighten the load by a good
few hundred grams. I think
that as soon as I am back
from the pub at lunchtime I
will be taking a couple of
laxative tablets if nothing
has moved before then -
ideally at home, and not in
the pub toilet !
Last night, maybe
around 11pm, I checked my
blood glucose on just one of
my meters, and it was
surprisingly low, just
7.8mmol/l if I recall
correctly. I hoped that this
morning's readings would be
as low. Sadly they were not.
The Contour meter read
8.2mmol/l, and although
still higher than my target
range, around 7.5mmol/l, it
was quite reasonable. The
GlucoRX meter read a
slightly better 8.1mmol/l.
The Exactive (Chinese )
meter read a higher
8.8mmol/l, and if accurate
(which I don't think it is)
is just about reasonable.
The only firm plan
for today is to go for my
usual 2 pints of Guinness in
The Jolly Farmers pub at
lunchtime. I am almost
tempted to try and walk to
Catford Bridge station, and
then walk from there to the
pub. On the other hand I
will want to do some train
photography, even though the
chance of seeing a train I
have not photographed before
is getting exceedingly slim.
I think I'll take my Nikon
D3200 camera to give it an
airing. I think it should be
able to pull in some good
snaps even in this dull and
murky weather. I think I'll
come home again via the
little supermarket on
Catford Bridge to get some
more apples, and more
instant noodles.
