There were a few times
when the sun was behind
a cloud, or clouds, but
most of yesterday was
bright, and with the
temperature reaching 24° C
it all made for a
pleasant day.
Today
could almost be a
re-run of
yesterday. There
will be a mix of
sunshine and sunny
spells, and the
temperature should
peak at 23°
C. The big difference
might be at 10pm when rain is
forecast. That rain could have
been the herald for a bad day
tomorrow, but in the latest
forecast, tomorrow is shown as a
mostly OK, although the first
few hours could feature light
ran or drizzle. It will be a
cooler day with only 21 °
C forecast. By
comparison with a
lot of this month,
that could almost
feel slightly
chilly.
°
C.
I was still
peeved at missing
Chislehurst Rocks, and I
guess I felt a bit
depressed yesterday. I was
also feeling very tired
after speaking to Sue (or
maybe Sue was speaking at
me) so late the previous
evening. It was a powerful
mix to ensure that
yesterday could not be
called enjoyable or very
productive.
There was just one
thing I did (although it
could be counted as two)
yesterday, and that was to
go shopping. Usually I
would not go out without
having a shower first, but
after some snoozing in the
morning, it seemed to be
getting late, and at gone
1pm, and maybe even
getting close to 2pm, it
was late. I decided to
just have a "cat lick"
wash (a quick flick over
with a damp flannel) and
rely on a spray of
deodorant to keep me
fragrant.
Finally I went out
shopping. I first headed
to Savers where spare
tubes of tooth paste were
top of my (mental)
shopping list. I also
bought a spare bottle of
Cod Liver Oil tablets. I
also bought some toilet
cleaner (a nice smelling
pink stuff I had never
tried before), plus a few
other bits and
pieces. As usual, I
then went over the way to
Poundstretcher.
I didn't have any
particular things on a
shopping list (mental,
imagined, real or
otherwise), but it is very
rare that I find nothing
in there to buy. One item
I did buy was some "no
added sugar" biscuits with
peanuts and a thin drizzle
of chocolate on them. They
did seem to be usefully
low in sugar, and besides,
there was only about 6 in
the box. One thing I
regret buying was a big
bag of pickled onion
crisps, and maybe today I
will also regret buying a
big bag of cheese and
onion crisps.
It had been an
almost pleasant walk to
the shops, but I could
feel the first signs of
angina chest pain starting
as I got to Savers. The
walk home was better in
that respect because I
seemed to be walking more
slowly, but the action of
that spoiled the walk. I
was still glad to get home
even if I had nothing to
do except eat when I got
there, although usually
that would be a pleasant
option.
Yesterday it was
not so pleasant. My late
lunch was to eat a whole
pack of 6 mini pork pies,
and to chase them down
with some pickled onion
crisps. The mini pork pies
(found on the reduced
price shelf of Tesco) were
not very nice. I guess
they might have been
better after a minute or
two in the microwave. When
eaten cold they just
seemed stodgy. The crisps,
being typical
Poundstretcher crisps,
were near their sell by
date, and already tasting
a bit stale....on the
other hand they were some
cheap unknown make, and
maybe that is how they
were supposed to taste.
The very worst
thing about that lunch was
the taste of guilt. I knew
it was not good for me,
and particularly so when
it seemed I was having
difficulty managing my
weight and blood glucose
level. The more obvious
reason for having that
lunch might have been
boredom, and depression,
but in a curious way I did
seem to feel hungry. In
fact it was a typical case
of me being unable to tell
a stomach upset from
hunger. The difference
became extremely obvious
in the small hours of this
morning !
Apart from
snoozing, eating and
reading, I did manage to
do a couple of useful
things. The night before I
had recorded (while
watching) a couple of
episodes of The New
Avengers. I wanted to
archive them, and so I had
to "top and tail"them,
plus strip out the adverts
from the middle of the
programme - three lots of
them each programme. I
think I may have mentioned
yesterday that one
annoying thing was that
one episode was showing
the wrong information in
the Electronic Programme
Guide, and I missed an
episode I would have liked
to have recorded.
I had another phone
call from Sue last night,
As usual it went on longer
than was wanted, and it
interfered with my dinner.
I can't be too angry about
it because it was obvious
she needed someone to talk
to because this morning
she is due a medical
examination (possibly just
an ECG reading), and she
was worried about it. Her
biggest worry was that she
had forgotten about the
appointment until she get
a txt message reminder on
Saturday morning, and that
was too late to book
transport to and from the
clinic/hospital. She was
hoping she would be able
to book transport at short
notice this morning.
After all I had
eaten during the day,
which was a bit more than
I have so far described, I
thought I had better keep
my dinner simple. I had a
couple of posh (but with a
reduced price sticker on
them) Tesco "Finest" beef
burgers in the fridge that
I had to use before they
went too far past their
use by date. I grilled
them alongside some baby
tomatoes, and then spoiled
any healthiness by using
up two pre-sliced burger
cheese slices.
I can't remember
the percentage of cheese
in those slices, but I
think it was quite small.
Some of it was just
solidified grease. As a
cheese on it's own they
are pretty revolting, but
I must admit they do go
with burgers quite well.
They sort of act as a
greasy lubricant to make
swallowing the meat
easier. The final
ingredient of that dinner
was some potato salad. I
can't say it was very
healthy, but it did seem a
fairly small dinner - by
my own standards.
After my late
start, it was just gone
8pm when I finished
dinner. It did leave me a
bit burpy, and I wondered
if I was going to get
heartburn when I
eventually laid down to
try and sleep. I am unsure
exactly what time it was
that I turned out the
light. I can't think what
I might have been doing,
but it may have been close
to 10pm before I tried to
sleep. I found I was
starting to get some mild
stomach ache, and I
wondered if I was going to
end up throwing up.
I didn't throw up,
but a lot happened at the
other end of my digestive
tract. Despite some
smelly farting, I think I
did manage to get to
sleep, and maybe for at
least an hour. It is the
only way I could account
for how late it was
getting when all the real
action started. I made
several trips to the
toilet, and I was lucky if
I passed some wind, but at
some time after 1am I did
go, and I really did
go ! Not only that,
but I went many times. Of
course the later ones were
fairly small, and almost
all liquid.
I think it was 3am
before I could relax in
bed, and maybe another 20
minutes before I could get
to sleep. It seemed really
stupid that despite all
the missed sleep, I only
managed to sleep through
to 6.30am before I seemed
to lose the ability to get
back to sleep. It might
have been a dream, but I
am sure it was reality
when I seem to remember
getting up at around 5am
to have a pee. I am very
sure I had dreams, but I
remember nothing of them.
Once I got up I had
a surprise. I had to go to
the toilet for a pee, and
at the same time I had
another poo. It was not a
lot, but it certainly was
not trivial. After the
apparent "emptying out" in
the small hours, I
wondered where it came
from ! It was quite handy
because it took my weight
down a good amount. It is
still not as low as a
couple of exceptional days
this month, but I seem to
definitely be back on
track - and that is sort
of surprising after all I
thought I ate yesterday
because I was bored and
feeling depressed.
Of course one
possibility was that I was
a bit dehydrated. In a way
I hope I was because that
can effect my blood
glucose measurements. This
morning the three readings
were in the almost safe
high area. The Contour
meter read 8.2mmol/l, and
on it's own I might have
said it was almost good,
but the GlucoRX meter read
9.1mmol/l (and that was
after I rejected the first
reading and took it
again). That was just high
enough to go into the pink
area - below the red area,
but still a lot higher
than desirable. The
Sinocare meter confirmed
my readings were too high,
but 8.7mmol/l is probably
best described as in no
man's land.
At least there is
good news about my blood
pressure this morning -
unless you consider 99/41
a bit too low, but I have
survived, maybe even
thrived with it as low as
97/41 one day last month.
I do find it hard to
describe just how good or
bad I feel today. As yet I
don't directly feel sleepy
as expected after missing
a fair portion of sleep
last night, but I do have
a very, very mild headache
as I type this, and that
says to me that a snooze
would be beneficial.
Yesterday, or maybe
the day before, I had been
thinking about trying to
go to take some photos,
probably of trains and
railway stations, but I
have doubts I will do that
today, although I feel
pretty sure that I would
not be troubled by
thoughts of needing a
toilet (for a poo) while
on any travels. One thing
could make any idea of
going out moot today. I am
expecting a small packet
from Amazon any time in
the next couple of days.
The official estimate for
delivery is either today,
tomorrow or the day after.
I guess
tomorrow is most likely,
but I could get an email
any minute now to say the
packet is on it's way.
There are two things I
really do want to get my
hands on in that packet. A
few other things may be
handy for the future, but
one of the two important
things could make life
simpler. Those two are two
different class 5 USB
Bluetooth dongles. Both
are cheap "almost no name"
Chinese brands and either
or both could be fakes,
but both are cheap enough
that I won't be upset if
at least one of them
works.
The reason for
wanting these Bluetooth
dongles is that I hope it
will speed up transfers of
photos from my phone to my
PC. I am currently using a
version 2 bluetooth
dongle, and they were
never designed for high
speed data. I have noticed
that transferring a
picture from my phone to
my old iMac 8 in the
dining room takes a
quarter or less time than
it does to my my main PC.
It is possible, that a
version 5 dongle may be
even faster.
Maybe the impetus
for all this was actually
when Jodie transferred a
picture form her old to
new phone. She didn't know
how to do it, or even that
it could be done. Even I
was surprised how it did
it in second instead of
the minutes from my phone
to my PC via the class 2
dongle. I am very keen to
get hold of the class 5
dongles and see how well
they perform.
