Lockdown day 38 09:18 BST Yesterday morning started out a bit brighter than the forecast suggested it might be, but by about 1pm reality caught up with the forecast, and it started to rain. The first rain was very light, and didn't last long, but later on there was some slightly heavier, and more persistent rain for a few hours. It was forecast to stop after 6pm, and I think it probably did, although I did note more rain after dark, and possibly before midday. The highest temperature felt higher than the 13° C forecast. The latest revision to the
weather forecast shows today being quite similar to yesterday (how it actually
was, rather than the forecast). Yesterday afternoon
the forecast for this afternoon looked very different.
The prediction was for thunderstorms ! Now the
forecast just shows light rain from midday to 7pm.
That will make any afternoon walking a soggy affair,
but looking on the bright side, it will be good for
the garden. Unfortunately it seems it is going to be a
degree cooler than yesterday at just 12° C. The good
news is that tomorrow might reach 15° C, and there
could be sunny intervals all day, but like those early
predictions of thunderstorms for today, the forecast
for tomorrow will probably change a lot in the next 24
hours.
I was quite proud
that I managed to force myself to walk 4 miles
yesterday. Towards the end it was getting
tiring, but I still managed to steer myself in
a big circle (sort of) around home until my
tracker hit the magic 4 miles. In the evening
I treated myself to a chicken shish kebab
(except the pitta bread). You could say it was
less treat and more a desperate attempt to
continue the healthy lunch I had. It evidently
worked because my blood glucose hit a really
nice low figure this morning. I write more
about that, plus a description of parts of my
walk, with pictures in my archive page for
today - don't forget to watch the short (37
seconds I think) video if your browser will
play it, and don't forget to turn the sound
up. That, the pictures, and all the words are
found HERE.

Lockdown day 37 09:00 BST It certainly was wet yesterday, but I don't think I could describe much of the rain as heavy. It certainly was persistent though ! I can't be certain, but I think the rain continued beyond the 6pm cut off shown in the forecast. There was more rain in the night, and I think some of it was before midnight. As well as being wet, it was a very cool day. In the morning it was only just over 7° C, and I don't think the temperature reached the forecast 9° C until quite late in the afternoon - if indeed it ever reached 9° C. I feel pretty sure there was
more rain in the early hours of this morning, but it
is dry now. Curiously enough, as I write this, the sun
is trying to break through the clouds, and I am fairly
sure it actually did so a bit earlier. The forecast
has been revised since I took the screenshot, but the
changes are minimal. The latest revision predicts the
light cloud will continue an extra hour, but both
agree that the rain will start again at 2pm. Both also
agree that today will be less cool than yesterday, and
that it might even be a tepid 13° C this afternoon.
The forecast currently shows that tomorrow will be
more like today that today's forecast predicts. After
an early morning splash of rain there could be some
sunny periods until 2pm when it will rain again. My
need for a garden hose has been put off for a few more
days, and with the prediction of a few more days of
rain next Sunday, and Monday, I don't feel any need to
rush out and buy one just yet.
I wrote about the first
half of my day yesterday in my late posting
yesterday. I didn't feel that well yesterday. It
was like I had a cold. The main symptom was a
runny nose. My nose felt reasonably clear when I
went out shopping in the morning, and also clear
when I went out in the afternoon for more
shopping. It was quite satisfying to get a fair
selection of food, although I did eat far too much
of stuff I shouldn't. I was partly inspired to eat
badly by finding out that Angela would appear to
have changed living arrangements halfway through
the lockdown. No wonder she can't communicate with
me when she now has lover boy looking over her
shoulder all the time. I say more about that, plus
a bit about my second shopping trip in the
afternoon, and what a terrible night I had in my
archive page for today HERE.

28th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 36 11:41 BST The sunny spells promised in the early versions of the forecast for yesterday turned out to be a wild exaggeration. There were a few sunny spells, but the lasting impression is that it wasn't a very bright day, but it was still warm. I noted 20° C displayed on one of my outside thermometers. Today's weather forecast has
remained more or less static, but reality hasn't been
following it exactly. For one thing I reckon it was
only 7.2° C at 9am. It has certainly rained a lot, but
not always as heavy as the forecast predicted, and
from time to time it has stopped for a bit. It is
currently raining as I type this, but it seems almost
bright outside - with a bit more effort a tiny sunbeam
could escape, and make it down to Earth. I'm not sure
if the temperature has risen to the predicted 9° C,
but I think I will be keeping the heater on regardless
today ! Tomorrow may be a bit less cold. 12° C is
forecast. It may also stay dry until later afternoon
when the forecast shows that curious mix of rain drops
and sunbeams.
I seemed to be suffering
from two things yesterday, and the worst of them
was the most ephemeral. The real, sort of medical,
problem was nothing more exotic than constipation.
It wasn't painful, but constantly reminded me that
sooner or later I would need the toilet. I don't
know when it started, it could have been 50 years
ago for all I know, but I think it is worse now
that I don't have to go to work, and so there is
no need to fight it. It is quite simply the
weather changing. It is not something I check,
maybe I should do so, but I believe that the
recent very good weather we have had was caused
by, or caused, high pressure. The cold and wet
rainy weather today is the result of, or causes
low pressure. Yesterday I was caught in the
change, and I don't think my body liked it. I
ended up doing lots of little jobs yesterday, none
of which were of any great importance, although
guess all had to be done one day. The one thing I
didn't do was to go out after an early morning
shopping trip. Today I did another early morning
shopping trip. This one was in the cold rain, and
the queues outside shops were very much shorter. I
describe yesterday, and the first half of today in
my archive for today. You can read it, and look at
some photos, HERE.

27th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 35 09:18 BST It was a chilly start yesterday (6° C), but once the sun git a bit higher in the sky it soon warmed up, and by late afternoon it was 20° C. Most of the daylight hours featured non stop sunshine, but a few clouds may have dimmed the sun in the last few hours of daylight. (This was something I was going to keep a check on, but my awareness of the outside world still drifts away after about 6pm for some reason). Today the weather is gently
preparing us for tomorrow. It seems there are less
sunny intervals in the latest revision of the forecast
compared to the early morning version as shown above.
If the sun ever appears (it is very dull as I write
this) there may only be sunny intervals until 1pm, and
one more at 6pm. The temperature is still expected to
reach 19° C. There is a very low chance of a shower
during the course of the afternoon, and into the
evening, but than at 2am tomorrow morning the rain
might start. Most of tomorrow will be wet, and maybe
very wet at times. It will also be quite chilly - just
9° C - except at 6am when it may be 10° C !
I did very little that
required any physical effort yesterday, but my day
seemed quite busy. I describe how busy I was, even
if doing nothing except reading, and also show
some pictures to prove that at long last some of
my gardening is starting to have something to show
for it, all in my archive page for today right HERE.

Sunday
26th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 34 08:14 BST After a very grey start to the day I was surprised that the clouds just seemed to vanish to leave a mostly sunny day, although it did happen a bit later then expected - around midday. Like the previous day I didn't really notice the transition from full sunshine to sunny spells in the early evening. In fact I am not sure if it actually happened. It seemed to stay bright. It was a dry day, and the afternoon temperature was in the region of 16° C. The day started very chilly,
but the sun is out and it should warm up. By late
afternoon the temperature should just reach 20° C for
a couple of hours. Like the previous couple of days
the sunshine should give way to just sunny spells for
the last two hours of daylight. I wonder if I'll
notice it today. Tomorrow should be almost as warm as
today, 19° C, but the current forecast says there will
only be sunny periods instead of non stop sunshine.
The main forecast says it should stay dry, but from
mid afternoon the chance of rain increases to 16%. The
day after, next Tuesday, is currently looking like it
will be cold and wet !
There were several
things that put me off going for a walk yesterday
- the morning was grey and miserable, my feet were
still very slightly sore from the previous day's
walk, and I seemed to have a volatile lower gut.
Maybe the latter was a bigger impediment, and yet
soon after midday none of those things were
relevant, but I had already made up my mind to try
to amuse myself without going out. Such amusements
included some special hand laundry, watering
plants, and parts of my garden, plus investigating
the latest Star Trek - Star Trek - Picard.
You can read my thoughts about this latest
incarnation of Star Trek, plus see a picture of
the first flowers to appear in my window boxes,
and hear about watering my garden, what I ate, and
why my guts should be very volatile this morning
(but aren't), and a few remembered bits of dreams,
all in my archive page for today HERE.

25th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 33 08:28 BST Yesterday was the grand finale to the run of decent weather we have had. It was bright and sunny again, and the temperature rose to a warm 21°C. The last few hours of daylight were forecast to be just sunny spells, and that was probably right, but I didn't really notice any real dips in brightness. What I did notice was that it did seem to cool off a bit faster in the evening, but it was possibly only a slight cooling down. Today is now forecast to be
even cooler than when the screenshot above was taken.
The maximum afternoon temperature is now predicted to
be no higher than 16° C. Another change is that the
first hour of full sunshine may not be until midday.
As I write this there is not a hint of the sun in the
sky, and it feels cold and gloomy. The only small
improvement in the latest revision of the forecast is
that now the last hour of full sunshine could be 6pm.
After that there will only be sunny intervals until
sunset. Tomorrow should see the return of full
sunshine, except at the extremes of daylight hours,
and it should end up noce and warm at 20° C. Today may
seem bad, but it was far worse on this day in 2017.
The day started with a frost, and although it was
sunny, the maximum temperature was just 10° C Brrrrr !
At first I didn't feel like I wanted to go out for a walk yesterday, and then I did. I had visions of maybe trying for a 4 mile walk, but I made two fundamental errors. The first was to hope that my newest boots, bought from Aldi months ago, might be getting more comfortable (they were, but there is a long way to go before they are actually comfortable). The second was that I decided I would walk up to the top of Blythe Hill for the views over London from there - on a good clear day, but it wasn't. In my archive page for today I include a video showing how knackered I was after walking just a single mile - the last third of it uphill. There is also some pictures of what I saw along my walk. As usual I mention my health indicators. They are all looking good this morning - contrary to how I actually feel, although that is probably influenced by how cold and gloomy this morning's weather is. All that, plus what I was going to eat, and what I actually ate in my archive page for today HERE. |
Friday
24th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 32 08:55 BST Once again I can't say for definite that the afternoon temperature reached the forecast 23° C, but it did feel nice and warm in the sunshine. The only negative thing was that the air did not seem as clear, and pollution free as some commentators have mentioned recently. It made things in the far distance, and maybe the sunshine itself a weeny bit hazy. Today will share many
features of yesterday. The middle of the day should be
very sunny, and the temperature should reach 21° C -
that's a couple of degrees less than yesterday, but it
probably won't feel that much less. This morning some
light cloud made the sunshine a bit diffused, and
perhaps the same will happen for the last few hours of
daylight. Maybe those last few hours will be worse
than that, and the sun will go in from time to time.
Tomorrow should follow the same pattern, but the
afternoon temperature may only reach 17° C. That will
feel a bit cool after the last few days.
I pushed my daily (or mostly
daily) walk to 3.66 miles yesterday. It was a route
that involved walking up to the top of Mountsfield
Park. I don't know how high above Catford that is, but
I seemed like hard work to me, and I am pretty sure
the "Simply Walking" app I use to track and measure my
walk takes no account of elevation, and has diddled me
out of some of the calories I might have burnt off. My
route also took me past Angela's favourite bench in
the park, but she wasn't there, and didn't even
acknowledge the message I sent her to say I would be
there. My only satisfaction was just walking the 3.66
miles, and nothing else. There are some pictures taken
on my walk, plus some observations about my lunch and
dinner, and how I feel this morning, on the archive
page for today HERE.

Thursday
23rd April 2020 |
Lockdown day 31 09:14 BST It was very nice yesterday - very sunny, and it did feel warm in the all day sunshine. The afternoon temperature was 18 or 19°C. That was enough to feel warm when active, but a little bit cool when snoozing. We have reached the time of year when the sun is too high to pour it's light and warmth directly into my front rooms, and I did feel a bit cool when waking up from a snooze in the afternoon. The latest revision to the
forecast not only says that the temperature will be
over 20° C, but it should actually reach a more than
warm 23° C for a few hours this afternoon. It should
feel hot in the direct sunshine. Tomorrow may be a
couple of degrees cooler, perhaps just 21° C, but that
is still very acceptable. The day after tomorrow,
Saturday, may still be pretty much the same as today
and tomorrow, but once again a degree or two cooler
than tomorrow - maybe just 19° C, but that is still
nothing to complain about.
Despite being knackered by my 2 mile walk the day before, I set out on a walk that I knew could be a lot longer yesterday. I could have pushed it a bit further, but I ended up walking 3 miles, and although tired, I wasn't exhausted when I got home again. On the way home I bought a few useful things from the Sainsbury's Local shop by Catford station. Somehow I managed to have better control over what I ate yesterday, and this morning my blood glucose level was back down to a sane level, and for the first time in ages my weight seems have gone down a small amount (although it is still far above the level I managed a few weeks back). All the details, plus pictures, and a short video, are in my archive page for today right HERE. |
Wednesday
22nd April 2020 |
Lockdown day 30 09:33 BST Yesterday was a little warmer than the day before, but despite the near continuous sunshine, the wind, which was often quite gusty, kept the temperature down to about 16° C, and wind made it feel a bit cooler than that. The only revision to the
above forecast screenshot is that the temperature
might reach the maximum for the day, 19° C by 1pm
instead of 2pm. If what is described as a moderate
breeze doesn't make it feel too cool then it could
feel quite warm today. Tomorrow could be another sunny
day, and the temperature may rise to 22 or even 23° C.
That should definitely feel good ! After tomorrow it
will start to cool a bit, but it looks like we might
have to wait until he 30th before the garden gets any
rain.

Tuesday
21st April 2020 |
Lockdown day 29 09:20 BST Yesterday was warm, but it wasn't warm ! There was more or less non stop sunshine all day, but the temperature only rose to about 15° C. That was according to the forecast, but I didn't really check it. The trouble is that all the sunshine made it feel like it should have felt warmer, but then again 15° C is really no more than "mild" or "tepid". Today, according to the
latest revision to the forecast, should be very sunny,
and maybe the temperature will flatten out to 16° C
this afternoon - sadly not the 17° C shown in the
screenshot above, although another revision might
bring something more optimistic. Tomorrow could see
another day of non stop sunshine, and the current
prediction is that the temperature will rise to 19° C.
Thursday might have just as much sunshine, and the
temperature might rise to 21° C. That would start to
feel very warm, but considering the forecast for just
a few hours ahead can end up very wrong, I choose not
to really believe Thursday will turn out anything like
is currently forecast.
I started out the day
thinking I was going to go out for a walk, and to get
some shopping yesterday, but when it came down to it I
found I couldn't be bothered. It was another touch of
depression brought about by still not getting any
response to my messages to Angela. I did some laundry
by hand, and then I did go out, but only to meet
Jodie. I handed over some things I had ordered from
Amazon, and that had arrived virtually on the day of
the start of the lockdown. It was only a brief meeting
- at arms length - but while I was out I also did some
shopping in The Catford Food Market, and from the
Poundshop. Both were mainly liquids, and I was glad to
put my weighty bags down when I got home. Later I had
what should have been a nice dinner if only one or
more of the chillies from the same batch I had used
before turned out to have been filled with fire and
brimstone ! I had another stomach upset last night,
but the first interior gurgling happened before I had
dinner. This morning my weight was still high despite
all I had deposited in the toilet the night before.
Even worse was that my blood glucose was now also high
after seemingly being really well controlled
yesterday. The full story, as always, is in my archive
page for today HERE.

Monday
20th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 28 08:21 BST The later revision of the weather forecast turned out to be correct yesterday. It was sunny all day, and in the sunshine it did feel quite warm, but only in the early afternoon. The morning was quite cool, and the sun didn't seem to provide much heat after 4pm. The afternoon high was about the forecast 17° C. It seems we are now in a run
of sunny days. The latest revision to the the forecast
for today only changes one thing compared to the
screenshot above. It is now thought that by midnight
the temperature may fall to 11° C. The afternoon
temperature may only be 15° C - which seems a bit
disappointing after non stop sunshine, but it is
probably something like the seasonal average. Tomorrow
should be basically the same as today, but hopefully a
couple of degrees warmer. If the forecast holds, which
is probably optimistic, it could actually be hot on
Thursday !
I wrote about my early morning visit to the what I still call The Turkish Supermarket yesterday morning. I probably ought to either call it by it's current name "PFC", or just the Continental Supermarket because they do sell stuff from many parts of "the Continent". The tomato sauce I bought originated in Romania, and the beer was from Poland. I suspect some of the vegetables probably originate Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, or who knows where. Unless you stop to read what might be on the boxes, it is all sold loose, and no country of origin is shown on the price tag. I went out a second time for some exercise, but also to buy a bit more shopping on the way home. I walked 3.09 miles, and for a change my recorded track did not show a single glitch, and I think that 3.09 miles can be taken as accurate. The map, descriptions of what I bought, and what I ate and drunk, plus how most of my health indicators are looking good this morning (except my weight) can all be read in the archive page for today HERE. |
Sunday
19th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 27 10:13 BST The worst thing about yesterday was that it didn't rain. I realise that is an unusual sentiment, but I had sown more grass seed with the idea we were going to get more rain yesterday. There was some rain in the early hours of the morning, and I hope that was enough. Although it was dry it varied from lightly overcast to heavily overcast. I am not sure if the temperature reached the forecast 15° C, but under that grey sky it felt cooler than that. The latest revision to the
forecast says that it will be non stop sunshine until
sunset. It will still only reach 17° C, but that
should feel fine in the sunshine. Tomorrow may be
equally sunny, but the temperature may only rise to
15° C. That should still be t-shirt weather, but only
if you keep moving !
I felt both bad and good
yesterday. I felt physically OK, but I think I was
suffering from mental ennui. I did my best to convince
myself that the grey skies would all be worth it
provided the forecast rain fall, and water the grass
seed on what will hopefully be my lawn. It didn't rain
a single drop (as far as I am aware), and that
defeated the whole object of the day. It left me
feeling rather gloomy, and uninspired to do much. I
think the only productive thing I did, in a physical
sense, was to wash a hand towel and the tea towels I
had been using to dry and polish my booze glass
collection. Late in the evening, but fortunately not
too late, I was treated to the added entertainment of
the typical "trapped wind" (and other stuff) that
seems a symptom of when I have eaten a wide selection
of vegetable in bigger quantities than usual. After
that I seemed to sleep well, and I was up quite early
for my usual morning routine, and then I went back to
bed again (a fact I omitted to mention in my archive
page for today. That archive page includes a brief
video of a booze experiment, plus pictures of some
beer I bought when I went out at 9am to buy my
shopping for the day (or at least most of it). The
full account of yesterday, plus plans for today, can
be read HERE.

Saturday
18th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 26 08:19 BST The rain finally came yesterday, but it was very light, and it didn't start to fall until much later than the forecast time of 1pm. It was probably more like 4pm, and it had stopped well before sunset, although this morning there was evidence of there being more rain after dark. Compared to recent days it seemed almost cold, and I am not sure if the temperature even rose as high as even 12° c, let alone the 14° C that was predicted in later revisions of the forecast. It was also rather dull most of the time, but there was at least one sunny spell late in the afternoon when the forecast said it should be raining. I have taken the wise
precaution of checking for revisions to today's
forecast, something I often forget to do before I
start writing, and today it seems like it was a good
thing. The latest revision to the forecast omits the
hours of rain in the screenshot above. Today may just
be very dull, but with the temperature still rising to
15° C. There still is a small chance of rain this
morning, but the forecast essentially now says it will
be dry. The rising temperature today heralds the
return of warmer, and sunnier days. Tomorrow should
see a mix of sunshine and sunny spells, and it could
get close to being warm with the temperature currently
predicted to reach 17° C - but maybe only for a single
hour. I am expecting the forecast for tomorrow to
change a lot by tomorrow, and hopefully it will be
even better.
I felt pretty bad yesterday
morning. As I wrote yesterday, my lower back and hip
pain was really strong first thing in the morning, and
I am pretty sure I can blame it on the gardening I was
doing the day before. The paracetamol I took helped a
lot, but I am not sure if the pain went away
completely, and even this morning I can detect some
tenderness, although I suppose that any bad pain has
disappeared by midday. It was then that my hangover
started becoming a serious nuisance. I did manage to
force myself to go out for some shopping - fresh
ingredients for a delicious dinner. After that I was
just very lazy - except to guzzle down two pints of
lime cordial to rehydrate myself after drinking far
too much nea gin the night before - and also to
prepare and cook my dinner. As is now the usual thing,
the full story is in my archive page for today which
you can read by clicking HERE.

Friday
17th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 25 10:24 BST Yesterday's weather was not quite as "advertised". The morning was sunny, but the afternoon was often quite dull. The major omission from the weather forecast was that there was a light sprinkling or rain sometime just before 1pm. I'm not sure if the temperature rose to the forecast 19° C. It did feel very mild, but I expected to raise a lot more sweat when working in the garden. There should be light rain
today, or there isn't then all this pain (explanation
coming later) is for nothing ! It is not often I hope
for rain, but the garden needs it, and it might make
the park a bit more empty if I go there today. The
rain should start at 1pm, and then it is supposed to
not stop until mid morning tomorrow. It is going to be
a rather cool day , although the latest revision does
say that the temperature may briefly hit 14° C - which
is still rather cool ! Tomorrow the temperature
may slowly climb to 15° C. Once the morning rain dries
up it will still be heavily overcast until the cloud
gradually thins a bit mid afternoon, but it probably
won't clear enough to let any sunshine through.
I was rather more depressed
than I sounded when writing yesterday. There
were a multitude of small reasons, individually
ignorable, why I felt depressed, but one I chose to
dwell on concerned drinking. I was feeling that I was
fed up drinking alone, and as a result my beer
consumption was getting smaller and smaller. To
compensate I did drink rather a lot of booze that
wasn't beer last night. I couldn't raise the
enthusiasm to go out for a walk with the sunshine
starting to fade away, but it did feel warm enough to
do some work in the garden - quite a lot of it - and
it was enough to give me severe lower back and hip
pain when I got up this morning. Oh well, at least it
felt like I had done some useful work, and a couple of
paracetamol seem to have helped to take away most of
the pain. There are pictures of what I did in
the garden, plus a description of my day, and how I
didn't go to bed until it was almost light this
morning, all in my archive page for today that can be
found right here.

Thursday
16th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 24 08:43 BST Yesterday was another sunny day, but while it was not cold, the 17° C in the afternoon did not feel much better than tepid. It was fine in a t-shirt, and shorts, but it needs to be over 20° C for it to actually feel warm. The forecast has changed a
little bit since I took the screenshot above. The full
sunshine is now expected to be replaced by just sunny
spells from about 1pm now, but paradoxically, the
temperature might now keep increasing until it hits
20° C at 3pm. It will then slowly cool off. It should
stay dry today, but may not tomorrow. Light rain may
start by mid morning, and continue through the night,
and for most of Saturday. Tomorrow will also be pretty
cool - probably no more than about 13° C.
My daily exercise was a walk of 2 miles yesterday. I didn't feel like doing more for a variety of reasons, but at least 2 miles almost keeps me in practice. I didn't have a good day yesterday, and some of the ruin was caused my eating just two apples - blood glucose and weight both up again. It has left me feeling a bit depressed this morning, and I am not sure if I will go for a walk today. I probably will, but maybe just another short one. As usual I have written about my day, and illustrated a few bits of it with pictures, in my archive page HERE. It also includes some thoughts about today. |
Wednesday
15th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 23 09:20 BST Yesterday was another day that was comparatively cool compared to some days ago. It was possibly a bit sunnier than the weather forecast predicted, but it was nearly all just sunny periods, although I seem to think there was a fairly long period of time, maybe a whole hour, that featured non stop sunshine. For all that it only warmed to 11° C. The screenshot above is how
the forecast looked at 5am this morning*. Four hours
later and it hasn't really changed. It seems today is
going to be a sunny day with blues skies. The wind is
still mostly from the east, which tends to be a cool
direction, but also a dry direction. Fortunately it
seems that the wind will be light enough for the
temperature rise to 17° C for a brief period of time.
It should feel warm in that sunshine this afternoon.
Tomorrow may see the temperature rise to 19° C after
lots of sunshine, but late in the afternoon it will
start to get cloudy. Thursday and Friday could see
some rain.
* There is an obvious error in this screenshot that took me a while to realise - the dates are wrong, and yet the prediction for "today" actually matches the prediction for the real today. I think I may have taken this screenshot just as it was being revised. If you look towards the bottom right of the picture you will see "Last updated Wednesday at 05:00", and there would be no reason to show yesterday's weather. So "Today" really is today, and the subsequent day and dates are wrong. |

Lockdown day 22 08:41 BST It was not very warm at all yesterday, and after dark the cold wind blowing through my bathroom window was really chilly ! Early afternoon featured some sunshine, and there were sunny spells before and after, but I'm sure the amount of sunshine was even less than the small amount forecast. Despite a few times when it looked like it might rain, and even a forecast 69% chance of rain at 7am, it remained a dry day. The temperature struggled to reach the forecast 11° C. The forecast says it should
be cloudy at the moment, but possible since sunrise
there seems to have been a lot of sunshine this
morning. There are quite a lot of clouds in the
southern sky right now, but there are large blue areas
to be seen. The latest revision of the forecast says
the first sunny spells should not happen until 10am,
but then the sunny spells should continue through
until sunset. At 6pm there is now the possibility of
the sky clearing enough to give a whole hour of
sunshine. The wind is from the east, always a cool
direction, and the temperature will be no better than
yesterday - just 11° C. Tomorrow could potentially
start with a frost, but a sunny day is predicted, and
the temperature may briefly peak at 17° C.

13th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 21 07:54 BST Yesterday wasn't quite as warm as the day before, but only by about a single degree. The afternoon high was 23 or maybe 24° C. In the morning the air did feel "thick" and the idea of a thunderstorm, as predicted in earlier versions of the weather forecast, did seem possible. There were also periods of time when there was a lot of cloud to the north, but the south was much clearer, and so the sunshine mostly continued. There were predictions of rain falling in north London, but I didn't see any confirmation that any rain actually fell. There was a 69% chance of
rain this morning, and yet the forecast doesn't show
rain, and while the sky seemed quite threatening, no
rain has fallen - yet. It is still very dull and
cloudy at the moment, and it looks to me as if it
could rain. After the recent sunny days I wouldn't be
sorry if we had some rain. In fact the garden would
welcome it - the grass seed might actually do
something if given a suitable drenching. Even the
latest revision of the forecast predicts the sun
starting to break through at about 11am, and full
sunshine by 1pm. Unless it rains very soon it is going
to be another dry day. It is also going to be a rather
cool day compared to recent days. The afternoon
temperature may be no higher than 11° C - long
trousers and light coat weather again ! Tomorrow may
be worse. Maybe the same afternoon temperature, but
quite a cold start, and only occasional sunny spells.
I wasn't sure I would go out again after my 4 mile walk the previous day. My legs, and my feet didn't seem to have recovered from the day before, and yet they didn't seem that bad. I reasoned that it would possibly be a good idea to give my legs a bit of use to avoid them seizing up completely. I ended up walking to Ladywell, and then back, past home, to The Turkish Supermarket on Catford Bridge. I bought some nice food and some nice beer. The walk was OK for my legs, but not for my feet. The only thing I did in the afternoon was to do a bit of hand laundry. Other than that, I had a mostly lazy day. You can read the full story of the day, with many pictures, HERE. |

Lockdown day 20 08:54 BST I think yesterday was the first day I would describe as being hot. The sun was out all morning, and for a few hours into the afternoon. After that the sunshine did seem to get a bit hazy, and the sky seemed to turning a bit milky. The afternoon temperature was 25° C. The latest revision of the
weather forecast has depreciated the afternoon
temperature by one degree, and the afternoon high is
predicted to be just 23° C. That is still good enough
to wear t-shirt and shirts, but it lacks the sizzle of
yesterday's 25° C. Other than that small change, today
should be very similar to yesterday until we get to
8pm. In the screenshot above a thunderbolt is
depicted, but the actual chance of rain was thought to
be just 9%. The latest revision omits the thunderbolt,
and says the chance of rain at 8pm will be just 4%.
Tomorrow is going to be a lot cooler. There should
still be a mix of sunny spells and sunshine, but the
maximum temperature could be as low as a cool feeling
11° C

11th April 2020 |
Lockdown day 19 08:26 BST Yesterday was another day that could be mistaken for summer. It was dry with almost non stop sunshine, and the afternoon temperature reached 20° C (and possibly a tiny bit higher). The forecast has been
slightly revised since I took the screenshot above.
The latest revision show non stop sunshine until
sunset, but the temperature forecast has been reduced
to a high of 23° C. It should be a slightly warmer
version of yesterday. Tomorrow brings some unknowns.
For the last few days the forecast for Sunday has
alternated between rain and no rain. The latest
prediction is no rain, and a day not too dissimilar to
today. By comparison, the day after, Monday is
currently looking like it will be feeling quite cold
compared to the last few days, but even that could
change in the next 48 hours.
With the forecast for hot, or maybe medium-hot sunshine, I just had to force myself to go out for walk yesterday. My right leg was feeling stiff and painful again - probably as bad as the day before, and possibly worse. I started out with a bit of a limp, and I expected to have to turn back well before I reached the furthest point of my intended walk. Unlike the day before, the more I walked the less my leg hurt, and it was getting to the point where it was starting to get ignorable after about half an hour. The only negative thing about my walk is that my GPS trace got spiked at the usual points, and my walk was incorrectly measure at 4.72 miles. I doubt it was even 4 miles, but maybe not much less than that. On the way home I had a pleasant time getting a bit of shopping from the Sainsbury's Local shop by Catford station. There was only a very short queue, and I was in and out in under 10 minutes. The full description of my walk, with pictures, plus the rest of my day can be read in my archive page for today HERE. |

Lockdown day 18 09:20 BST Finally, the weather lived up to expectations yesterday ! As the forecast predicted, most of the daylight hours were sunny, except for the last few which only featured sunny spells. The afternoon high was 20° C. As usual the forecast has
been revised since I took the screenshot above earlier
this morning. It still shows that today should be a
very sunny day, but the prediction for the afternoon
temperature has now been reduced to 20° C. In other
words today will be like yesterday, and as a means of
predicting the weather that has been shown to be more
accurate than all the super computers combined. So
tomorrow should be the same as today, but the current
I didn't feel on top of the world yesterday morning, but I didn't feel that bad either. My worst problem was that my right leg felt stiff, creaky and sore, but with the sun shining I just had to force myself for a walk. I covered 2.23 miles, and it was all rather uncomfortable. Fortunately my right leg felt no worse after I started walking, and there may have been a just detectable improvement towards the end. It was still definitely good to get home, and get the weight off that leg. I had a moderately busy afternoon that did not include any eating, and my blood glucose level dropped to a very satisfactory low before I had my dinner. That dinner seemed to be health, but I am sure it had loads of hidden sugar. I took some nice snaps on my walk. You can look at them, and get a full account of my day, plus a prediction for today HERE. |

BST The weather turned out to be very "average" yesterday. The rain, that was a feature of an early version of the forecast, didn't fall, and the day was lacking in sunshine. There were sunny spells, but somehow they didn't seem to form a major feature. The most significant thing was that the afternoon temperature reached 20° C. The latest revision of the
forecast does not really deviate from the screenshot
above. It is, and will continue to be sunny until
sometime after 3pm, and then there will just be sunny
spells for the rest of the daylight hours. Once again
it will be warm with the afternoon temperature
reaching 20° C again. It looks to be a mild night, and
tomorrow should start at around 9° C. After non stop
sunshine the temperature could be exploring the very
low reaches of "hot" at 23° C. The day after,
Saturday, could see 24° C !
I had some grand ideas for yesterday that failed to materialise. Some of the reason was physical, and some of it mental. The main thing that I didn't do was to go for a walk. I did manage to do some more work in the back room to transform it back into a dining room, but once again it was not until later in the afternoon. Last night I had an Indian takeaway for dinner. It was mostly healthy, but I should have thrown the free poppadoms away. I feel sure they were instrumental in my blood glucose being higher than expected this morning (but not terribly high). Today I think there is a good chance I will go out for a walk despite there being a sort of possible negative thing about it. I describe that, plus the details of the few things I did yesterday in my archive page for today - HERE. |

BST Yesterday's weather forecast seemed to overestimate the amount of sunshine we would get yesterday. The day started sunny, but before midday, and maybe even before 11am, a lot of clouds appeared in the sky, and they kept getting in the way of the sun. It was still a warm day, although it might have taken a bit longer to get there. The temperature was supposed to hit 19° C by 3pm, but I think it was possibly closer to 5pm, although I will admit I was not really watching the thermometer that much - it just seemed to feel warmer as the the afternoon came to a close. The weather seems very
volatile lately. The forecast can easily change in a
few hours. So far this morning I would describe it as
sunny, albeit sometimes hazy sunshine, but enough to
be "sunshine" instead of the sunny spells shown in the
forecast. The light rain showers, shown in the
screenshot above, which I was relaying on to water my
plants, now seem to have disappeared from the latest
revision of the forecast. About the only constant we
can rely on is that the sun should make an appearance,
for variable lengths of time, every hour until sunset.
The temperature prediction of 21° C seems to be very
likely. Tomorrow is currently predicted to be a sunny
day, but a degree less than today, 20° C. It will
probably snow.
I was hoping it wouldn't be the case, but I continued to feel rough until at least mid afternoon, yesterday. In consequence I did little more than rest, read and snooze until late afternoon (not counting a small break for a light lunch). It was probably about 5pm when I decided I needed to stop resting, and do something. I had an hour to put up a shelf above my re-sited drinks cabinet - a shelf with cup, or in this case, glass hooks to hang some beer glasses on. With that done I could have my dinner, and watch some TV, but during every commercial break I would run downstairs to wash some dusty glasses before putting them back into the drinks cabinet. Sometime between 9pm and 10pm I went to sleep, and had a fairly good night. This morning I feel far better than yesterday morning, and I might go out for the walk that I didn't go for yesterday. The full story of yesterday, plus a really bad picture of my re-sited drinks cabinet, plus new shelf, can be read on my archive page for today HERE. |

BST There was a sprinkle of rain yesterday morning. It was later than originally forecast, and a bit more then the drizzle that a later revision predicted for later in the morning. That last light rain was around 11am. After that it brightened up a bit, but the predicted sunny spells were rather thin on the ground. There seemed to be more bits of blue sky to the north, but the south remained stubbornly cloudy, and the sun only broke through now and then. It was a mild to slightly warmish day with the afternoon temperature at about the forecast temperature of 17° C. Today has certainly started
nice and sunny. The latest revision to the forecast
has the sunshine continuing another hour compared to
the screenshot above. From 5pm there may only be sunny
intervals until sunset. This morning felt a little
cool, but with an afternoon temperature of 19° C, it
should end up as a nice warm day. Tomorrow should be
warmer still with the temperature reaching 21° C, but
the day may only feature sunny spells rather than non
stop sunshine.
Yesterday was the day I finally did a sort of proper shop in Tesco. It was quick, but left me feeling rather depressed. That depression, and maybe eating a couple of cheese and ham mini-sub rolls, left me feeling very lethargic until the evening when I made another big step towards rehabilitating my old dining room. Unfortunately, in doing so, I managed to pull a muscle (or twist a rib) in my chest. That discomfort, plus some bad trapped wind meant I could not get to sleep until 2am this morning, and even than I didn't seem to sleep very well. This morning I feel pretty lousy, but it is mostly just lack of sleep. I describe my shopping trip, and how it made me feel depressed, plus what I did in the back/dining room, and how a small error could have caused a fire, in my archive for today. Read it HERE. |

BST Yesterday was like a summers day. The sun was out all day, the temperature rose to 20° C, and the breeze was light. Today was supposed to start
with rain, but the first rain has only just started,
and it may only be less than an hours worth of
drizzle. The latest revision to the forecast actually
shows drizzle for 11am, but by midday we might get
sunny spells that last until the end of the day. The
afternoon temperature should reach 17° C. Tomorrow
should see the return of sunshine except for the last
few hours of daylight which will only feature sunny
spells. The afternoon temperature should be back to a
very pleasant 19° C.
Yesterday was the sunniest and hottest day of the year - so far - and I missed the best of it. The reason I missed it is because I had to wait in for a delivery from Amazon that I was actually expecting today. It didn't arrive until about 5pm, and by then it seemed too late to go out for the long walk in the hot sunshine that I had been looking forward to. My day still ended up being quite productive even if it wasn't in the sunshine. I took another step in clearing/cleaning my back room. I even found my old Philips flashgun. It needed a severe clean, but it works just fine. Last night I sent a message to Angela. It was just a simple "good night, sleep well", but it went unread until this morning. It wasn't actually mentioned, but it seemed to inspire Angela to ring me as she walked to work. I wrote more about why that call was so uplifting on several levels, plus more about my afternoon of clearing and cleaning in the archive page for today. Click HERE to read it. |

BST Once again the weather turned out to be better than the forecast. There were a few times yesterday when a cloud passed in front of the sun, but I can really only think of yesterday as being a lovely sunny day. It was also a warm day. The temperature rose to 15° C, and maybe I might have seen 16° C. Definitely t-shirt weather ! Today is forecast to be
sunny and warm. The latest revision to the forecast
has not changed any obvious detail to the screenshot
above - actually I suddenly note a small change - 7pm
is now shown as sunny instead of just sunny spells.
The mid afternoon temperature of 20° C should feel hot
in the sunshine after all the much colder days we've
had. One useful revision to the forecast concerns
tomorrow. Apart from the chance of a shower in the
morning, it is now shown as having sunny spells all
afternoon.
After not getting much
in the way of exercise recently, it felt good to get out
and stretch my legs, and being able to do it in warm
sunshine was a real bonus. A 2.33 mile walk was not
quite as long as I might have wanted, but it was enough.
In fact it was more than enough because I managed to
bruise my left heel. You can read how I managed this,
and how a couple of short videos I shot while out were
received by Patricia and Angela in my archive page for
the day. It even includes pictures, and a short video of
what looks like a child molester, but who is supposed to
be a trustworthy doctor -

BST Yesterday seemed to be a bit brighter than originally forecast, although there was little in the way of sunshine. However there were some sunny intervals, and most were at the end of the afternoon. That agreed with the early version of the forecast, and not the later versions of the forecast. The best thing about yesterday was the very light wind that was coming from a more benign direction. The afternoon temperature rose to 12° C, and it did feel noticeably mild. The latest revision of the
forecast looks better than the screenshot above. The
hours of sunshine have been moved forward to start at
1pm, and it should stay sunny until at least mid
afternoon. At the moment, where the original forecast
shows grey sky, there is hazy sunshine, and there have
been hazy sunny spells for the last hour or two. The
afternoon temperature is still only expected to reach
15° C, but in full sunshine, and a moderate breeze
from the south, that could feel very nice. Tomorrow
could almost be the first day of summer - a sunny day
with the temperature reaching 19° C. Apart from a
hiccup on Monday, when there could be a splash of
rain, it seems like the temperature has now shifted up
a couple of notches for the week, or weeks to come.
Yesterday was a satisfactory day. After getting washed and dressed I walked up the road to what was once The Turkish Supermarket, but is now "TFC" (Turkish Food Centre maybe ?). Maybe the fact that a lot of their stock seems more Polish than Turkish explains the name changing to unexplained initials. I bought some more food that included some real fish fingers, and some smoked Polish bacon and sausages. In the afternoon I washed a double duvet cover - rather hard work ! I also ended up, by way of small increments, cleaning and polishing the now empty dining room table. In the evening I treated myself to another takeaway from the same place I used last Tuesday (I think it was Tuesday). Over the space of 4 days their service went from superb to abysmal (the food that I ate last night was till good though). I guess I should avoid them at the weekend when they get too busy. The long version, of yesterday, with pictures and far more details is, as ever, to be found in the archive page for today right HERE. |

BST I'm not sure why, but I don't seem to remember yesterday as being quite as dull as the forecast predicted it would be. Maybe it was just light grey instead of dark grey. There were a few sunny spells in the late afternoon, but once again they seem to have left little impact on my memory. This is the trouble when you stay at home for most of the day. The outside weather has very little impact. One thing that did make a change was the temperature. I'm not sure it ever got much over 12° C, but I wouldn't dispute that it did reach 13° C at some time. What is more significant is that it made it less chilly in the unheated back room (for instance). Today continues the trend
set yesterday for being a grey day with a bit of
brightness at the end of the afternoon. It would seem
it will be a bit cooler today. Maybe just 10° C at
best. It was at that point I thought I had better
check the forecast for changes, and indeed it has
changed. The day is now predicted to be uniformly mid
grey with no dark grey, and no sunshine at the end of
the afternoon. Also it is now expected to reach 12° C
this afternoon. Tomorrow looks like it could be most
pleasant - sunny intervals all day, and the
temperature reaching 15° C.
I didn't feel that wonderful yesterday, and back in the real world I would not be too bothered about it, but I wanted to go out to try and get some shopping, and I didn't want to display any potential signs of a cold while I was out. It is a strange world we currently live in where an innocent cough, or the need to blow your nose now and again are potential signs of plague. Fortunately once I was out in the fresh air I was OK. I found Aldi to be far too busy with a very long queue to get in. The Tesco Express had a much smaller queue, perhaps only 8 people outside waiting to get in, and I didn't fancy that. My back up plan was to investigate one of the convenience stores - specifically the grandly named " Catford Food Market". It is one of those immigrant run shops where the owner will soon be a millionaire because the place is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It doesn't even have an obvious door that can be closed. It was deserted when I got there, and I was able to quickly rush in, grab 3 x 1.75L bottles of Diet Coke, plus 2 packs of what I thought were fish fingers, but were actually fish burgers, pay, and be out again in about 2 minutes flat. That was good news, as was finally hearing from Angela. The full story of yesterday, and a bit of this morning, can be read HERE. |

07:04
BST Yesterday started with a thick frost, but by the afternoon the temperature was up to 9° C - just ! There was sufficient sunshine in the morning, starting with pure sunshine, but ending as sunny spells, to give the day a slightly cheerful feel...or if not "cheerful", then "not quite as depressing than it could have been". Today promises to be a
mostly gloomy day. It is gloomy now, and this first
version of the forecast makes it seem like it will
stay this way, to varying degrees, until 4pm when a
few sunny spells might appear. There is a very small,
6 to 8%, chance of rain this afternoon, but it feels
very unlikely. On the plus side it the temperature
should rise to 13° C this afternoon. During a sunny
spell that could feel OK, and it may be aided by the
light wind coming from the west (it is that wind
carrying the moist air that will be causing the
clouds). Tomorrow is predicted to be a couple of
degrees cooler, and the whole day is probably going to
be grey and gloomy under yet more cloud - although
with less chance of rain than today.
I started yesterday with my blood glucose really high. It was caused by two things - the popsicle I ate as a snack, or treat, or maybe just because it was there, and the large amount of chips I ate as part of my fish and chips dinner. I needed to plan my day to reduce that sugar overload. The weather just did not inspire me to go for a long walk, and worse still, I seem to have got out of practice for walking. Somehow I managed it by eating sensibly...well, mostly sensibly. Today my weight has gone up by 400gm, but my blood glucose is down to a much safer level. The full details of how I got there, tested my lungs, and ended up having an uncomfortable night in bed are in the full archive for today HERE. |

BST Yesterday still felt very cool despite there being a mix of sunshine and sunny spells. The morning and evening were particularly cold, but the afternoon, where the temperature rose to 10° C for a few hours, was merely cool. Today started with a thick
frost that is now only melting under the clear blue
sky and sunshine. The latest revision to the forecast
says the sky should stay clear, with non stop
sunshine, until 11am. After that there should be a few
hours of sunny intervals, until a veil of clouds turns
the sky grey. For all that sunshine the afternoon
temperature may only reach 9° C, but the afternoon
should stay dry. At the moment the prediction is that
tomorrow could get almost warm with an afternoon
temperature of 13° C, but it will come at the expense
of grey skies, and no sunshine at all. There will be a
very small (8%) chance of a shower sometime in the
afternoon. It seems we have to wait until Sunday for a
run of good weather.
I started yesterday not knowing quite how I felt. This is not unusual, and could be said to be very normal now. On the other hand to say I didn't have a clue how I felt was not strictly true. I did have a sort of unquantifiable feeling that maybe I was feeling better, as in not so ill. That was obviously a good thing. Actually there was one thing that was quantifiable, and that was that I stopped being almost crippled by going to where it was cold - like the kitchen. The previous day (or days) I was finding the cold to be almost painful despite apparently not having a fever. The highlight of the day was a takeaway. As well as spare, and far more healthy stuff for today, the main meal yesterday was a large bit of cod, and a gigantic "small portion" of chips - real chips, and not fries. The damage they did to my blood glucose was terrible, but I'll recover, and the foxes had a good meal of all the chips I couldn't eat (there was even some fish among the chips). The full version of yesterday, and some of this morning can be read HERE. |
