My
Electronic Diary For January 2025 |
Friday 31st January 2025 |
09:08 GMT
It may not have been very warm outside, just 7° C at it's peak, but it was gloriously sunny yesterday. From mid morning to about 3pm, the sun coming through my bedroom windows raised the room temperature to a very comfy 25° C with no extra heating. I was almost tempted to open a window until I considered the cold air outside blowing in and chilling everything. No sunshine today.
This morning has started off grey, wet and cold.
Most of the day will be just 7° C, but from 1pm it may
be dry, and still grey. Tonight could be another
very cold night. Tomorrow could start at 4° C, and
there may not be a single ray of sunshine to be seen
through the whole day. The middle of the afternoon
may see 7° C for just 2 hours. No rain is forecast
for tomorrow. If the forecast for 2 days time bears
any relation to reality we could see another bright
sunny day on Sunday.
Yesterday was rather splendid, and sort of enjoyable. The great thing was the pure sunshine. As mentioned above, in my notes about the weather, the sunshine coming through my bedroom windows allowed me to turn off the heater mid morning, and not need it again until about 4pm. My bedroom was lovely and warm then to that sunshine. My day, night and this morning are all described in my complete archived page for today. |
Thursday 30th January 2025 |
08:33 GMT
Yesterday started off bright and sunny, but sadly the sunshine (actually more like sunny spells) finished earlier than the forecast predicted, but I guess it was very good that the forecast got the first 5 hours right, By 1pm we had lost the sun, and the day reverted to another grey day, although I guess I could admit that it was not a deep grey day. The temperature peaked for a few hours at the start of the afternoon, at 8° C. Today's forecast
actually says full sunshine and not just sunny
spells. If we are very lucky it will last until
sunset. It was a cold morning, 3° C, but should warm
to 7° C in the afternoon, but will fall back to 3° C
by 10pm. Tomorrow could see heavy rain in the
morning, but from 1pm it may stay dry until the end
of the day. The temperature may still only reach 7°
C in the afternoon, and then drop down to 5° C by
10pm.
Yesterday was a day when I tweaked the dragon's tail (or whatever the saying is) and survived, and survived much better than could be expected. I can't really say that it was a good day, and I guess I was often feeling mildly depressed....or was it just bored ? My day is described, with some pictures, plus some notes about my night and dreams, and this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |

08:37 GMT
Contrary to what the weather forecast said, there were some nice sunny spells yesterday morning. They didn't last long, but there were still odd patches of blue sky seen for some time after the last sunny spell. Even later in the day the clouds were mottled white and grey, and it sometimes seemed like it would brighten up. Sadly it didn't and most of the day had to be written off as grey, grey, wet and grey ! Much of the day was 9° C, but from 5pm it started to very slowly cool down. This morning it
looks like the weather forecast has got off to a
good start. It has been bright since sunrise, and
once the sun has risen high enough to clear the
house roofs it should be nice and sunny. Sunshine,
or maybe, as forecast, sunny spells should continue
to 1pm. It won't be warm with a high of 8° C
forecast for early afternoon, and 2 or 3 degrees
lower towards the end of the day. Earlier versions
of the forecast showed more rain for late
afternoon/early evening. The latest version just
says some drizzle at 5, 7 and 8pm. Tomorrow could
feature non stop sunshine for most of the hours of
daylight, but it still will no be very warm. Just 7°
C for a couple of hours in the afternoon.
On the one hand I could describe yesterday as being bland, but maybe that is a bit harsh for a day that had it's moments, and was enlivened by unscheduled sunny spells in the morning. It was also an unusually healthy day, and I have no idea why that happened. My day, night, and some of this morning, is all described in my full archived page for today. |
Tuesday 28th January 2025 |
08:54 GMT
The weather forecast for yesterday was just as random as many recent days. In the "Weather warnings" it did mention heavy rain, and a possible thunderstorm somewhere in South East England. The local forecast only showed light rain, and apart from a few very short times, it was just light rain. It wasn't really that heavy when at around 2pm (if I remember correctly) I saw a flash of lightning, followed 20 or 30 seconds later by a peal of thunder. I was not expecting that. I probably wasn't expecting the amount of time the rain stopped for short periods of no rain at random times during the day. I don't think I could really describe yesterday's weather as really bad. The maximum temperature of 8° C, fairly constant from late morning to mid evening, was not even terribly cold (although cold enough to be avoided). Apart from the
temperature being 9° C until it starts to cool off a
degree at 5pm, the forecast for today is not that
different to yesterday. I wonder if we will get a
surprise clap of thunder today ? It would not
surprise me if we didn't get a few sunny spells
today despite none being forecast. Apart from a
general feeling that any forecast recently must be
wrong, I can see a few small, tiny, patches of near
blue among the clouds at the moment. Tomorrow may be
colder, with temperatures around between 5 and 7° C,
but the morning is shown as featuring some sunny
spells. Earlier versions of the forecast showed the
sunny spells to finish at 1pm, and for rain to start
immediately, but now it says the rain may not start
until 4pm. Tomorrow may almost feel like some of it
could be a nice, albeit cold, day.
Yesterday was almost a semi good day, and maybe bits of it were good. I had a few things to do, and I had some success in what I was doing. I also seemed to have more success than I thought I was going to have when it came to eating carefully. All this and more is described in greater detail, along with notes about my night, and this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |
Monday 27th January 2025 |
09:01 GMT
The forecast for yesterday's weather suggested a complete apocalypse, but it was less bad than that. It was most certainly wet, but some of the forecast heavy rain was only a bit heavy. It was most definitely cold except in the late evening when the temperature rose to 9° C. Earlier in the afternoon it was 5 or 6° C, but said to feel several degrees less. There were some strong winds, but the worst didn't seem particularly strong. Today has started
with some sunny spells, and the temperature is
around 7° C. From 10am we may lose the sunny spells,
and get light rain instead. There could be some
gusty winds this morning, but if they are like
yesterday it will not be that noticeable indoors.
The afternoon may be brighter, but the rain may
continue for almost the rest of the day. The
afternoon should see 8° C, but they say it might
feel like just 5° C. The current forecast says
tomorrow will see about 8° C, and light rain right
through the whole day.
Yesterday was almost completely different to any earlier thoughts about what the day would be like, and it was all thanks to the appalling weather - even if the weather actually turned out to be only 75% appalling ! I don't think I have ever done less in a day before. The only interruption from a lot of boredom was my Amazon delivery. What there was of it is described in my complete archived page for today, which includes some notes about my sleep and this morning. |
Sunday 26th January 2025 |
08:59 GMT
There was a lot of nice bright sunshine yesterday, but it was still very cold outdoors. Indoors, behind glass, the sunshine kept my bedroom nice and warm with no added heating, for maybe 3 or more hours. Outside the best it could do was 6° C. My screenshot of the
weather forecast begins at 7am. 3 hours earlier the
temperature was close to zero, and so I woke up to
see frost on cars and the neighbours shed roofs.
That was not bad compared to what is coming. From
midday we can expect gales force winds, and although
the air temperature may be 5 or 6° C, it is
predicted it will feel more like 1° C in that wind.
The wind will calm down, and the temperature will
rise to 9° C, but only 8pm may see a lull in the
rain (and feels unlikely). There will be more rain
tomorrow, but most of it will be light rain, and
there could even be a sunny spell or two. The big
feature tomorrow will be a lot more blasts of gale
force winds. The afternoon temperature may reach 8°
C, but the strong winds will make much of the day
feel like it is just 4° C.
Yesterday was mostly OK, and sometimes good. With nothing special to do I had a fairly lazy morning, and maybe even a short snooze after I finished writing this electronic diary. I think it was gone midday when I had a shower, and prepared to go out for a walk to Aldi. I have done my best to describe all I can think of about yesterday, plus some notes about my sleep and dreams, and also this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |
Saturday 25th January 2025 |
08:51 GMT
There were rather less sunny spells than forecast for yesterday. Maybe they should have called them slightly brighter spells, because that was mostly what it was like. The morning, apart from being wet, was very mild with the temperature reaching 11° C at 9am, but it fell to 8° C after sunset, and continued to fall to 6° C by the end of the day. Today may not be
very warm, but it could be very sunny. The sun is
shining now, and the sky seems clear enough that we
may well get full sunshine for a time, and maybe
until sunset. The afternoon may only see 6° C, but
the full sunshine (if it happens as forecast) may
help it feel not too bad. Tonight the temperature
will drop to just 1° C by 11pm. Tomorrow is shown as
starting at 2° C, but through the day it may slowly
climb as high as 9° C by midnight. The morning may
feature some sunny spells, but from 1pm light rain
may fall. Later on there could be the odd hour
featuring heavy rain.
Last night was another night where, initially, sleeping didn't go quite as hoped for, but I did get sufficient sleep that I could rise early, and so it wasn't so bad. Yesterday was not exactly an exciting day, but it had it's moments, and some of those moments lasted 10 or more minutes ! All I can think of to describe about yesterday, and some notes about my sleep and this morning, can be read in my complete archived page for today. |
Friday 24th January 2025 |
09:45 GMT
Yesterday did have a couple of hours featuring sunny spells, but the morning was wet, and that made even 8° C feel unpleasantly cold. Once the sun broke through I think it got a little bit cooler, but may have felt less cool ! During the night the
temperature rose to 10° C, but at the cost of rain,
and some of it seemed a bit heavy. Right now, with
10am fast approaching, we have had some strong hints
that the sun will break through to give sunny
spells, and with luck they will last until sunset.
In direct sunshine (plus indoor through glass) the
forecast 10 and even 9° C may feel quite nice. The
temperature will slowly drop after sunset, and be
down to 6° C by midnight. Tomorrow morning (at 6am)
the temperature may be down to 5° C and still
dropping. It may hit just 4° C, and it may be
raining, but at 11am the rain may start to stop, and
the temperature will rise by another degree. The
afternoon may be nice and sunny, but after sunset
the temperature may drop to just 3° C by 8pm. It
will start to rise again before the day is over.
Yet another very late start this morning ! Once again it was due to not being able to get to sleep until gone midnight. This time the problem was mainly heartburn. It was all made far worse because I had been hoping to get to sleep extra early to make up for lost sleep the previous night. The good bits and bad bits of my day, plus some notes about my sleep and this morning, are all described in my complete archived page for today. |
Thursday 23rd January 2025 |
09:39 GMT
Ignoring the early morning drizzle, yesterday can be summed up as cold and grey - with it being very grey for most daylight hours, and less grey after sunset where it didn't matter except for the blanket of cloud stopping the temperature falling too low overnight.; Not that there was much to lose. According to the forecast the temperature would peak for one single hour at 5° C, but I think that peak may have lasted a bit longer than one hour. There is no hint
that this hour, 9am, will feature any sunny spells.
It looks very grey outside. Rain may be a
possibility, but I suspect less than in the forecast
above. Maybe it will only happen if warm, and wet
air passes over us, but maybe today will see an
afternoon temperature of 8° C. At 3am, tomorrow
morning, strong winds blowing from somewhere warmer
may push the temperature up to 9° C, and it may
rain. It may still be raining at 6am tomorrow, but
the strong winds may be replaced by a strong breeze
by 9am. The rain will continue until 10am, and by
then the temperature may rise to 10° C, and some
sunny spells after that may push it up to an almost
warm 11° C by midday. After that the temperature may
slowly fall down to a more typical, for this time of
year, 6° C. Of course the forecast for tomorrow may
turn out to be completely wrong.
Another very late start this morning ! The reasons will become apparent later in today's narrative. Most of yesterday was fairly good - except for the grey skies and cold - but things definitely went down hill in the evening. Come to think of it, maybe that should say from late afternoon ! My day and night is described, sometimes in slightly unpleasant details, along with a few notes about this morning in my complete archived page for today. |
Wednesday 22nd January 2025 |
09:34 GMT
There were some sunny spells yesterday, and that was nice, but there were far fewer of them, and they seemed to fade away earlier than forecast. That just left a grey, and fairly cold day. The forecasts aid a max of 5° C, but I hoped it might be a degree or two more than that. I was wrong ! Earlier forecasts
for today promised much doom and gloom, but this
latest forecast shows no more than some drizzle
right now, and then the rest of the day will be very
grey followed by medium grey. After this morning
drizzle it should stay dry, but the temperature may
only peak at 5° C for just one hour, and most of the
day will be just 4° C - except around my house where
my 5 outside temperature sensors seem to be
registering at least 5° C as I type this.
Incidentally, it was definitely a few degrees too
warm during the night for the originally forecast
sleet showers. Tomorrow may start with a couple of
hours of sunny spells, but most of the day will
feature light rain. The afternoon may be a bit
warmer at 8° C.
I did one important, and significant thing yesterday. It changed my plans for the whole day. I did not do anything of the things I predicted I might do yesterday - no out on the trains with my camera, and not even any visits to the local shops. In fact I didn't even take some rubbish out to the bins. All this is explained in my complete archived page for today, and it includes some notes about my night, and this morning. |
Tuesday 21st January 2025 |
08:51 GMT
There seemed to be almost no wind yesterday, and that helped it feel less cold than it could have. It was almost a fully grey day, but from late afternoon it seemed lighter, and we almost had a few sunny spells. By my reckoning the afternoon was very close to 7° C, and with no wind it almost felt comfortable with the spare bedroom window wide open for a short while. The forecast says we
should be having sunny spells right now, but it is
still miserably grey outside. The temperature now is
more like 3° C than the forecast 2° C, and in the
small hours it must have been a lot lower judging by
the frost on the ars outside, and also on next
door's shed roof. All the frost has now melted, and
the temperature should be rising. This afternoon
should see 5° C, and in my personal opinion,
probably more, but that depends on the forecast
sunny spells actually happening. Between 5pm and 6pm
the forecast says the temperature will suddenly
plummet to just 2° C. The Met Office forecast does
not show this, and say the temperature will still be
4° C at 11pm. Tomorrow morning will definitely see
some rain, and it will continue until midday, but
the Met Office say it will be 4° C, while the BBC
say it will just 1° C and the light rain may fall as
sleet. Both agree the afternoon should be at least
5° C.
Yesterday is difficult to describe in terms of good or bad, or even busy or boring. It was probably a bit of everything. I did do quite a lot of useful stuff, but it was not enjoyable, and in the grand scheme of things it was probably a waste of time. It is even hard to say whether I ate well or not (where well means sort of healthily). My day, night, and also some of this morning, is all described in my complete archived page for today. |
Monday 20th January 2025 |
09:12 GMT
Once again, yesterdayw as another cold and grey day. The only very slightly positive thing is that it was a dry day. The temperature forecast ranged from 2° C at each end of the day, with a peak of 4° C in the middle of the day....except I, and my 5 outside thermometers agree that the afternoon high was more like 5° C. At 10:25pm the thermometer outside my bedroom window, with it's sensor connected by thin wire to the indoor display, said it was 3.7° C, and I guess that it close enough to the forecast of 3° C. Just one of my outside
thermometers said the temperature was as low as 3.6°
C degrees just before 8am. The others said between 4
and 5° C. My eyes say the road looks damp, and I am
unsure if there might have been some light rain when
itw as dark, or if it might be just condensation.
Today we may briefly see 6° C, but overall it is
another cold, grey, miserable, but probably dry day.
Tomorrow may start with mist, but we have had that
forecast many times, and it always seemed clear to
me. On a more positive note, tomorrow may see some
sunny spells, but only a maximum of 5° C is
expected.
Yesterday included doing a few useful, or in one case, potentially useful thing for the future. I tried at least one thing I had not tried before (although I guess it was two things - this will be explained later). The results of the whole day were not too bad this morning. That odd lot of words will be better explained in my complete archived page for today, and it also includes notes about how I slept, and a few dreams, plus notes about this morning. |
Sunday 19th January 2025 |
10:21 GMT
Yesterday was mostly another cold and dull day, but unlike the day before there no few sunny spells at all. While it was very chilly, it was mostly around 5° C, or a couple of degrees higher than forecast. All my thermometers agreed it was still around 5° C at 7.30pm when it should have been 2° C according to the weather forecast. Once again the forecast is
predicting this morning to be colder than my
thermometers say it is. I rebooted one of my
displays that shows the readings from 3 different
outside thermometers, and it found the signal from
all three again, and all said that it was just a
fraction short of 5° C. One other thing came to me a
bit later, and it was to check a rarely checked
thermometer that has it's outside temperature sensor
connected by a thin wire that is is clamped by the
window. It too said it was over 4° C. This leaves me
with little faith in the forecast (the Met Office
also say it should have been on 2° C this morning).
Both forecasters agree that today will be dry, but
overcast and gloomy, and my own eyes agree with
that. Tomorrow may be one degree less chilly than
today, but otherwise the same as today.
Yesterday was a good day for at least two reasons, but there were some minor triumphs too. I must admit it was a day when it seemed having a shower was just a tiny bit more than I thought I needed, but I did have a wash with a soapy flannel over the (possibly) smellier areas. The good bits, the minor triumphs, and other stuff yesterday, plus notes about my night and this morning, are all described in my complete archived page for today. |
Saturday 18th January 2025 |
09:13 GMT
Yesterday was mostly another cold and dull day, but there were a few sunny spells in the late afternoon. I think the highest temperature was just 6° C. By midnight the temperature should have fallen to just 2° C, but I'm not sure it went much below 4° C. This morning was supposed
to start as low as 2° C, but even my most
pessimistic thermometer said it was 3° C, and the
others said around 4° C. As I write this my
thermometers agree that it is 4.8° C, or it is
already warmer than the forecast highest afternoon
temperature. No rain is forecast today, except three
of my thermometers have a barometer function, and
they forecast rain. I think the most accurate thing
to be said about today is that it is going to be
cold and very dull. Despite the forecast seeming to
be some distance from reality, and tomorrow's
forecast having no credibility, the forecast for
tomorrow is cold and very dull. Top temperature may
be 4° C,
Yesterday was one of those days, probably typical of winter, where very little happened, and it could have been very boring. Oddly enough it didn't seem to feel boring because I was feeling off colour again, and so doing hardly anything seemed like the perfect way to pass the day. I have described all there is to say about my day, my night, and also this morning in my complete archived page for today. |
Friday 17th January 2025 |
09:38 GMT
Yesterday can be simply summed as being dull, and not warm. The afternoon temperature reached 8° C, while the ends of the day were cooler still. I don't think this morning
started as low as 4° C. It could have been as high
as 6 or 7° C, and as I write this at 9:42am it is
just about 8° C. That is higher than the afternoon
high which is only shown as 6° C. The last couple of
hours of daylight might feature sunny
spells. By midnight it may fall as low as 2° C. I am
left wonder what today's weather will really
be like. Tomorrow may be extra cold. The forecast
says it will start with mist, and just 1° C, and it
may only warm up to just 3° C.
Another late morning after another terrible night last night. However, until it all went wrong at bed time, yesterday was generally an OK day. Like many better days it started with a shower. The more complete description of yesterday, last night, and this morning, can be read in my complete archived page for today. |
Thursday 16th January 2025 |
09:07 GMT
Once again there was no visible mist yesterday morning, but the ground was so damp that there must have been some light rain, maybe "misty" drizzle before daybreak. The most significant thing about yesterday was that it was very mild (by winter standards). The temperature was forecast to rise to 9° C, but I think it just about reached 10° C. Sadly it was still quite dull, and there never ever did seem a chance that the sun might break through the murky sky. Today may only be 90% as
dull as yesterday, and the maximum temperature is
only forecast to reach 8° C. However, all but one of
my outside thermometers say it is already just over
9° C, and I suspect it is still rising. It should be
dry today, but it still looks very damp outside.
Tomorrow should be dry. It may only reach 7° C after
a 4° C start, but sunny spells are forecast.
Yesterday was an odd sort of day. Being damp, mild and dull seemed an odd combination after previous days of worse weather. If the sun had managed to break through it could have been a brilliant day....but still a bit bad, particularly in the matter of eating. My day, plus some notes about my night, and a few surprises this morning, are all described in my complete archived page for today. |
Wednesday 15th January 2025 |
08:50 GMT
Yesterday started off with a few nice sunny spells, but they didn't seem to last long. I remember it as a dull day, but it was almost mild. The afternoon temperature seemed to rise to 10° C, and it didn't seem to drop much even by midnight. Once again mist was
forecast for this morning, but all I could see was
evidence of rain. It still looks very damp outside
as I write this. I guess the air was too warm for
mist. My thermometers say it is still 10° C, as it
was through most of the night. With some sunshine it
could feel quite good, but it is forecast, and looks
like it will be cloudy all day. Maybe, and this is
only a guess, that the afternoon temperature may
reach 11° C. The forecast says no rain at all today,
but I have my doubts. The forecast for tomorrow
looks very similar to today. I wonder if it gets
changed a lot by tomorrow morning.
It seemed unlikely, but yesterday seems to have been one of the better days, but I have no idea how that happened. Once I finished writing yesterday's piece I had my usual short rest, and then I had a shower and washed my hair. Maybe that set me up for a good day. I have described most bits of my day, and also added the usual nights about my night, and this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |
Tuesday 14th January 2025 |
08:03 GMT
Yesterday didn't start with a frost, although just 2° C came very close to it. Many sunny spells were forecast, and we did have some, but not nearly as many as forecast. The afternoon reached 5° C, or still very cold, and by midnight the temperature had fallen to 3° C....or at least that was what was forecast, but I have a feeling it might still have been 5° C. By my reckoning it
is just over 4° C this morning, and may soon reach
5° C - a bit more than forecast. The barometer in my
thermometer is predicting that today will feature
rain, but at the moment the sky is semi clear, and
maybe we will get the predicted sunny spells later.
The afternoon temperature may reach 8° C, and while
still cold, is not bitterly cold. The forecast says
the temperature may not fall much, and it may still
be 7° C at midnight. Forecasts for mists and fog
seem very unreliable for Catford, but mist is
forecast from 11pm, and it may continue right
through the night, and finally lift at 11am tomorrow
morning. Tomorrow may be very dull, but the
afternoon temperature may reach 9° C. More mist is
forecast for tomorrow night (and Thursday morning).
Yesterday had all the hallmarks of a terrible day, but it seemed like a fairly good day. I actually did very little apart from some washing up in the kitchen, and a bit of cooking. I didn't wash, and I didn't go out for a walk or even shopping. Somehow I didn't seem to get bored. My day, such as it was, plus my night, and also some notes about this morning, are all described in my complete archived page for today. |
Monday 13th January 2025 |
09:12 GMT
Once again there was a clear start to yesterday morning, despite what the forecast predicted, but I think they got the prediction of -3° C start to the day right. There was some nice sunshine and sunny spells in the morning, but even before mid afternoon t seemed to have clouded up enough to make it quite dull. The afternoon did reach plus 3° C, and maybe even a degree higher. Of course it still felt perishingly cold, and the earlier sunny spells did little to warm the inside of my bedroom. By 5pm the temperature had fallen to 2° C, and stayed there well into the night. It was a nice change
to wake up to no frost this morning....or was it.
Maybe it wasn't. With a start of just 2° C it was
still icy cold, but without the prettiness of
sparkly frost. Later today, after some sunny spells,
it should warm up to 5° C (it is almost there even
as I type this). after sunset the temperature may
drop to 3° C, and we should have another night with
the temperature not in negative figures. Tomorrow
could very briefly peak at 8° C but 7° C will be
more representative of the afternoon and until the
end of the day. There may be sunny spells in the
morning, but the day will be generally dull, and
maybe very dull for just midday.
Yesterday was a semi successful day, I achieved a few useful things, but I failed to do one thing I wanted to do, and didn't eat quite as carefully as I should have done, although I was a bit careful, just not enough. The waste pipe from the bathtub freezing up again was annoying. As usual, my whole day, plus some notes about my night and this morning, are all described in my complete archived page for today. |
Sunday 12th January 2025 |
09:48 GMT
Once again I never noticed any mist yesterday morning, but the morning did start at -3° C. We did get some lovely sunshine yesterday, and if I recall correctly, with no mist it started earlier than midday, maybe several hours earlier. That pushed the temperature up to plus 1° C, but it soon fell away again to -2° C by midnight. Once again there was
no mist or fog this morning, but it was down to -3°
C, and the frost was so thick it could be mistaken
for snow. A lot of the frost was on top of frost
from yesterday that survived through the day. As I
type this (09:55am) we have glorious sunshine. There
is just some clumps of streaky clouds, and so the
full sunshine should continue for some time, and
maybe it will even continue through to sunset. It
should push the temperature up to 3° C this
afternoon. It seems like we may have finished the
frosty nights for now. Tomorrow may start at 2° C,
and sunny spells might mean it will be 5° C tomorrow
afternoon....which is still damn cold, but at least
it is a bit higher than bloody cold !
Yesterday was not such a bad day, but it was nothing like I expected. It did feel like I was just about over the bug that had left me feeling like I had a mix of a mild version of the common cold, and mild 'flu. It was not a 100% cure because I still had an occasional twinge. My day, night, and also this morning, are all described in my full archived page for today. |
Saturday 11th January 2025 |
08:43 GMT
I never noticed any mist yesterday, but the bit of the forecast that said the morning would start at -2° C was about right. The sunny spells that were supposed to start at 10am, and continue until sunset were very sparse, and seemed to finish by about 1pm. The afternoon temperature may have possibly been 2° C instead of the forecast 1° C, but that is just splitting hairs - it was still bloody cold ! After sunset the temperature started to slowly drop. Once again there seems to be no mist, but the temperature is definitely down to -3° C. As seen on the left, my most pessimistic outdoor thermometer says it is -4.7° C, but I don't think that is correct. Perhaps with no mist we don't have to wait until midday for the sun to break through. In fact it seems to be shining now, but is below the roofline of the houses to the east as I write this. Maybe the extra sunshine, if indeed the sun can stay shining until sunset, will raise the temperature higher than the forecast 1° C. At the end of the afternoon the temperature will fall again, and by 8pm is might be possible that mist will fall, and by midnight the temperature will be down to -2° C. Tomorrow will start very cold again, but there may be some sunny spells in the afternoon, and maybe the temperature may peak at a whole 3° C. From the day after tomorrow the nights may stay above zero. My patched patch on my bathtub seemed to mostly hold yesterday, and I was able to wash my hair, and have a shower. I also put some laundry in to soak, but that is still there this morning. Instead of finishing that washing I went out and took some pictures. This is all described in my complete archived page for today, and it includes quite a few photos, notes about my sleep, and notes about this morning, plus some more photos about last night's dinner. |

I guess yesterday was another typical good, but bad winter day. It was very cold, with an afternoon high of just 3° C, but we also had bright sunshine through most daylight hours. After sunset the temperature started to drop a lot. This morning started
at a teeth chattering -2° C (yes, minus 2)!
It should eventually warm up to plus 1° C. Sunny
spells through the day do seem to look possible, and
at least they will be cheery on an otherwise awful
day. By 9pm the temperature may drop to -1° C, and
tomorrow may start at -2° C again. Tomorrow will be
much like today with sunny spells, but the afternoon
temperature may rise to plus 2° C.
Yesterday was one of those days that was almost good, and at odd moments was good, but sometimes not so good. It was a day where not a lot happened except one important thing - collecting my latest repeat prescription with the usual 56 day supply of pills. My day, and my night, and a few notes about this morning, are all described in my complete archived page for today. |

10:01 GMT
Yesterday started very cold and dry. The forecast sunny spells from mid to late morning never happened, and the whole day seemed very dull. The afternoon high was just 2° C. I'm sure it was possibly 2 or 3 hours later than forecast when rain started to fall. It got the road wet, but it seems little more than drizzle, and if there was the forecast sleet mixed in with it, it was hard to see. This morning has
started very cold and dry again. Also again it
seemed to be a degree l0wer than forecast, or just a
few tenths of a degree above zero. Today the
forecast of sunshine turns out to be true. The sky
is 100% blue, but whether it continues until sunset
is anyone's guess. The last three hours before
sunset should see the temperature climb to a still
bloody cold 3° C. The clear skies will continue, and
the temperature will drop to 0° C by 11pm. Tomorrow
could start at -2° C (yes minus 2), and the
morning may feature mist. There may be a few sunny
spells later, and the temperature will rise to a
brass monkey's 1° C !
Yesterday was another day that started good, but started to go wrong mid afternoon. There was one great annoyance in the morning. I had a shower and it seems my patch over the crack in the bath has started to leak. This time it was real, and not just a tide mark on the mat. The rest of my day, my night, and all this morning, are more completely described in my complete archived page for today. |

09:38 GMT
Yesterday started dry, and not wet as the weather forecast predicted. It was a very cold day that started at 2° C, went up to about 5° C, and then back down to 1° C at midnight. Sunny spells and even an hour of sunshine was forecast, but all I remember is a few raggedy sunny spells that didn't really amount to much. This morning has
started very cold and dry. By my reckoning it was 1°
C rather than 0° C, but there was a frost. The claim
that there could be sunny spells at 9am, or as I
actually write this, seems hugely unlikely when I
look at the thick cover of grey clouds. The highest
temperature today should start at midday, but my
thermometers say the temperature is just over 2° C
right now, and so maybe the afternoon temperature
will reach 3° C. From 4pm it may rain, and the
forecast say it will include sleet. If the
temperature dips by a single degree it could fall as
snow, and snow is forecast in places just a few
miles away ! Tomorrow could see clear skies and so
extremely cold, but also very sunny. The temperature
is forecast to peak for a single hour, 3pm, at 3° C,
but more of the day will be just 2° C.
Yesterday was one of those days that was good in places, but ultimately not good. It seemed more boring and depressing than normal, although I often hardly noticed it except upon looking back at some poor eating choices. In terms of sugar intake, I really blotted my copy book yesterday. My day, yesterday, is described, along with some notes about my sleep (including what should have, bit didn't end as an erotic dream) plus most of this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |

08:36 GMT
Yesterday started almost warm, at 10° C, and also rather damp. The temperature slowly fell to 5° C by 10am, and apart from a brief blip to 6° C, stayed that way until it started to fall again at 8pm. From maybe as early as 1pm, and even possibly midday, there were lots of sunny spells, and while they did little to the outside temperature, they were handy to add some useful warmth inside my bedroom and front room (both south facing). This morning was the
forecast 2° C, but there was no rain, and
there are strong hints that we may get sunny spells
before the forecast time of 1pm. The cloud looks a
bit grey, but also quite thin. It is too bright to
look where the sun would be shining if the cloud was
even thinner. It is looking like today could be very
similar to yesterday, including a brief period when
the temperature reaches 5° C for a couple of hours.
Most of the day will be several degrees lower, and
feeling "bloody freezing" ! Tomorrow is going to be
even colder. The day may start, and stay at 0° C
until 10am when it will rise to a mere 2° C.
There could be some sunny spells in the morning, but
from 4pm sleet could fall. In fact it may be cold
enough for snow, but maybe not cold enough for it to
stay as snow.
I guess yesterday was a sort of productive day, and sometime an agreeable day. I was expecting to see no one, or to go out in the cold rain, and so I couldn't be bothered to take a shower, or wash my hair (although my hair didn't really need washing yesterday). My day is described, with a few pictures, alongside my night, and the start of this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |

08:42 GMT
Yesterday was not exactly cold, but even 11° C with no sun and cold rain feels quite chilly enough ! After 1pm the temperature went up a degree, and possibly another 8pm (just for one hour if it happened as forecast), but after it was back to 12° C for the rest of the night. Only some of the rain was heavy rain, and there were times when it was dry for an hour or two. It is still raining
this morning, and in my opinion some of it was
fairly heavy, but it does seem lighter as I write
this. It should stop by 1pm when the temperature has
fallen from a start of (allegedly) 10° C to 5 or 6°
C. By midnight it could be down to 3° C. The
forecast says 3 and 4pm will feature sunny spells.
It doesn't look like the sun will ever push through
the murk I see in the sky at the moment. Tomorrow
may see some of the afternoon featuring sunny
spells, and maybe even an hour of full sunshine, and
that may push the temperature up to 5° C, but the
morning may start at 2° C, and it could be down to
1° C by midnight.
Yesterday was a day that was OK apart from some hubris, and an anti-climax. It did not get off to a great start because all the sleet and snow we had has soaked into the ground, and the water feed to my house is currently several degrees cooler. The main consequence of this is that I only had less than tepid water to shower in. I opted for a simple flannel wash. The rest of my day, plus some of my night, and this morning, is described in my full archived page for today. |

09:16 GMT
Yesterday was cold and grey (apart from a couple of short periods during the morning when the sun almost broke through the clouds), The afternoon temperature was only 4° C, and the temperature started to drop right after sunset. Then things got interesting. There was some light drizzle at 7pm, but it wasn't for another couple of hours before that drizzle turned to sleet. Another hour after that and the sleet was a lot closer to snow. By 11pm, or maybe midnight, next doors car (the easiest to see through a crack in my curtains) really did look like it was covered with snow ! All the snow had
gone this morning thanks to warmer, and a lot wetter
air moving in. This morning the temperature is up to
9° C (at 09:41am), and still rising. It is not
exactly bucketing down with rain right now, but the
rain is still moderately heavy. It could stop at 4pm
(although the Met Office Forecast says a but
earlier), and by then the temperature should be 12°
C. The rain may resume a few hours later. There
seems zero chance of seeing the sun today. Tomorrow
may start with rain, and at 12° C, but the
temperature will start to fall very early, and the
light rain should stop by midday. The afternoon
should be dry, but only 5° C. For a few hours
after the middle of the afternoon there could be
some sunny spells, but the temperature could be down
to just 3° C by midnight.
I feel reluctant to say it, but yesterday was a just about OK day. It was nothing spectacular, and maybe the only good thing about it was that it was better than the previous days. Some of the change was that I didn't seem to have a cold any more - a cold that I was not sure I really had, but with hindsight I must have had. My day, night, and the start of this morning, is all described in my complete archived page for today. |
Saturday 4th January 2025 |
08:49 GMT
Yesterday was another cold day, but it was also a bright sunny day. The sun coming through my bedroom windows was equivalent to the output of my fan heater set to half power ! The temperature outside peaked at 3 and possibly 4° C. Today is going to be
another very cold day, with a peak of just 4° C
forecast. One big difference compared to yesterday
is that no sunshine at all is expected. Another
change is this evening it will rain, and some of
that rain will fall as sleet, and as midnight
approaches it could fall as snow, although only
sleet is forecast, but with the temperature down to
just 1° C.... Tomorrow may be close to slightly
warm, but at the cost of lots of rain all day. Most
of it will be light rain, but some heavy rain is
expected as well. The temperature may reach 13° C
before the end of the day.
Yesterday seemed to be a blandly OK day, but I now realise it was more like a total disaster....and I am not really sure why. There is evidence that I ate far too much, but I can't seem to remember doing that, and I can remember taking some care of what I ate. I don't think there are any material things I did yesterday, although I did do some computer backups, and they are very important. I spent a lot of time just reading - maybe alternating between screen and print - until early evening when I watched some TV. Despite sound like so little, I have written about a few things, and included a few pictures taken yesterday. I also describe my night and this morning in my complete archived page for today. |
Friday 3rd January 2025 |
09:54 GMT
Yesterday was a very cold day, but at least there were some sunny spells, albeit starting a lot later than the forecast promised. I am not sure I remember the full sunshine forecast for 3 and 4pm. The temperature peaked at around 4° C, and the day ended with the temperature down to 0° C. Only one of my
outside thermometers read -1.5° C. The
rest read 0° C. The forecast said it
would be -1° C this morning, but I guess
this is just irrelevant - the real
temperature was ffffing freezing ! By
9am the forecast bright sun could be
seen rising over the houses to the east,
and now we are bathed in glorious
sunshine, and I can turn the heater down
in my south facing room. If the forecast
hold there should be blue skies and non
stop sunshine until sunset. The
temperature may touch 4° C by mid to
late afternoon, and then at 6pm it may
start to cloud over, and that cloud will
stop the temperature falling below 1° C
- which is still bloody cold ! There may
be a very few sunny spells in the first
half of tomorrow, but once again the
temperature may peak at only 4° C. At
7pm it will have been 3° C for several
hours, and it will start to rain. Some
of that rain may fall as sleet. If the
temperature were to drop another degree,
it could fall as snow !
Yesterday was a sort of awkward day. After my excesses the day before I was trying to not eat too much, and to try to reduce my sugar intake to a minimum (even though my blood glucose was not too bad yesterday morning). I mostly stuck to this regime......until I got drunk ! All yesterday, including getting drunk, and the consequences of that in the night, plus all the combined consequences of everything this morning, are described in my complete archived page for today. |

09:11 GMT
Yesterday was a really horrible day. It was wet most of the time, and the rain was very cold. It cooled the air down from 12° C in the morning to 7° C at the end of the afternoon. At one time it didn't brighten up - it was as if someone replaced a 2W light bulb with a 3W light bulb. What we realy wanted was a 150W light bulb ! Later this afternoon
we may get that 150W lightbulb moment, but it
seems quite dull now. It is also very cold. At
8am I think it was closer to 2° C than the
forecast 3° C. The worst thing is that the
temperature could fall further before rising
to an awe inspiring (in the strength of it's
freezingfullness) 4° C. Maybe that assumes
that we will be getting sunny spells soon,
although the sky looks more like it could snow
than let any sunshine through. Tomorrow could
feature full sunshine all day, but the ends of
the day will be below zero, and the peak
temperature just 3° C. 50 miles from here,
along the Kent coast, it is reported that snow
is forecast !
Yesterday was most definitely a horrible day on several levels. Nearly all of it can be blamed on the weather, but there were other reasons, including my own lack of discipline and a steadfast spine (or whatever it was called in historic books). Even my morning shower was nearly a disaster when I set the water temperature too low, and only had a tepid shower. My cold, wet, and soggy day, plus a dry and warm night, and a slightly worrisome this morning, is all described, with a few pictures, in my complete archived page for today. |

09:23 GMT
Yesterday may have been almost warm at 11° C, and the meagre sunny spells around midday may have been nice, but overall it was a horrible day. Today has started at
12° C, and that could be nice with bright
sunshine and no gale force winds, but no
sunshine is expected today, and the gale force
winds may continue until 11am. Drizzle could
start to fall at 10am, and it will get
heavier, and from 1pm we may get some very
heavy rain. Maybe the rain will stop by 10pm,
and by then the temperature will have dropped
to 6° C. Tomorrow should be dry with a lot of
sunny spells, but the catch is that the
temperature will be no warmer than 4° C.
I guess yesterday was a fair day. I did a few useful things, and I thought I controlled what I was eating quite well, although this morning I have my doubts about it. It took a bit of time until I got around to it, but I had a shower and washed and conditioned my hair. My last day of the last year, plus my night, and the start of the first day of the new year, are described, with a few pictures, in my complete archived page for today. |
